60 Seconds of Breathing. It's not long is it? And it can be a good place to start. It's something that can improve your health by decreasing your stress levels. It can be done anywhere, standing, sitting, lying down. Concentrating on your breath is a really basic form of meditation. There have been over 3000 studies on the benefit of meditating. As with exercise you can start with small amounts of time and even split it through the day. Make it a routine - Pick a certain time every day for your breath work. This can be when you wake up every morning, at lunch time, before bed, and if you're one of the "on the go all the time" people there's always the bathroom/toilet! Start with just 60 seconds/day and keep the routine going for 30 days. If you want to meditate for longer then great! Gradually build up the amount of time to suit you, the more you can add the greater the benefit. The key is to do it everyday. When you concentrate on the breath it quiets the mind. Take a look at my new video, and join me, wherever you are, for just a 60 second breathing meditation. During this video I will run through breathing technique and how to quiet the "monkey mind". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xc5qhkpb9cs)

Supplements - Do we really need them?
Thank you for reading. Today I'm going to cover a little about supplementation. Nutritional supplements are benefical:
When there is a health problem that has created an imbalance in the body.
To help build and maintain optimal physical, mental and emotional health.
To support the body on it's journey to complete health.
It's an unfortunate fact that we are unable to get 100% of our required nutritional daily intake of nutrients - Even if you are eating organics in this day and age. (The soils aren't what they used to be.) The question is really not whether to take supplements, rather the question should be, which ones, when and how much?
There are a few things to be considered when looking at supplements, there are:
Are they synthetic or natural whole food supplements?
Are there any fillers?
Does the product contain allergens?
Are they going to be contra-indicated for use with any pharmacutical drugs you may be taking?
With all of the different varieties out there on the market do you actually know what is going to support your health and wellbeing?
Did you know?
Your body can tell the difference between synthetic and natural food supplements, even though synthetics are designed to try and trick it. We are programmed to recognise natural nutrients and so they are readily absorbed into our systems. Isolated chemical or synthetic nutrients are immeadiately put on hold by the body until it can determine the cofactors needed to enable it. Then 50% of every single synthetic supplement is automatically rendered useless by the body, leaving a possible 50% for possible conversion!
Natural whole food supplements are vitamins and other products that contain the complete complex of micro-nutrients exactly as they exist in nature.
Vitamins, minerals, co-factors, trace elements, enzymes, anti-oxidants etc. are essential to human health, and the human body is unable to manufacture most of what it needs. These nutrients must be obtained from the food we eat and the supplements we take that are ideally derived from food!

Gut Healing, Anti-aging and Anti-inflammatory All In One Drink!
One of my things to do today was to get a nourishing bone broth on the go. I've just about finished the last batch I made. You can make broth from a variety of bones. Today I'm making gut healing beef broth. There are many ways to make broth, the important things to remember are:
Use Organic/grass fed bones.
Use Organic ingredients where possible to limit toxins and increase the nutrient content of this broth.
Use Apple Cider Vinegar (the type with the "mother" in it).
Cook it slow and low (I use a slow cooker)
Ingredients (amounts will depend on the size of your slow cooker):
Beef bones, meaty and marrow bones
2 bay leaves
A good glug of apple cider vinegar
A small garlic bulb peeled (or more if you really like garlic)
2 tablespoons rosemary/thyme
8 Peppercorns
1 tablespoon Celtic Sea Salt
1 and 1/2 cups of carrots
You can also use other vegetables such as onion, celery, fennel. If you're going to use a variety reduce the amount of carrot in the recipe.
How to make it:
Just put all ingredients into your slow cooker. Put the water in last and fill to cover the ingredients leaving the level around an inch below the top of the pot. Turn the slow cooker to medium and leave it run for 24 hours.
When it's cooked you have 2 choices:
1. Skim the fat off, then pour the liquid broth into mugs/jugs/bowls.
or
2. Skim off the fat, take out the bay leaves and discard. Take out the bones and remove any meat off the bones, and marrow out of the bones. Place the meat and marrow back into the pot. Then use an emersion blender to turn into a soup.
You know you have a good quality broth if when cold is very gelatinous (jelly like!)
If you suffer with various intolerances then substitute those ingredients out with others. Experiment with different vegetables, herbs and spices to come up with your own unique flavours, that's what I've done.
Bone broth can then be re-heated. Taste and season accordingly. Can be used as a drink, in soups, gravy and stews. Gut healing and anti-aging goodness!
Enjoy!

My 10 Healthy Juice Tips.
Do you drink juice? Here are some healthy juice tips: 1. Drink freshly squeezed juice, because the longer the juice stands the more it degrades, make sure you've drunk it before 15mins are up. 2. Make sure the quality of the products you juice are of the best quality e.g. biodynamic or organic. The commercial stuff has a load of chemicals sprayed all over them, you don't want to be getting concentrated amounts of those. 3. Add quality fats such as avocado, coconut, nuts, chia... seeds. This will help the body absorb all of those wonderful nutrients and also help the body balance blood sugars better. 4. Use either all vegetables or mostly vegetables and a very small amount of fruit. Again this will be helpful in balancing blood sugars. 5. Adding some Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides or Great Lakes Collagen will also provide an anti-aging element to your juices as well as helping to balance blood sugars. 6. Cinnamon can also be used to help balance blood sugars when juicing ( have you noticed yet how important it is to balance those blood sugars yet?). 7. When using fruit, my top recommendation is to use berries. They are very high in anti-oxidants. 8. The slower the juicer the more nutrients you will retain. So when looking for a juicer search for "slow juicers" or "slow masticating juicers". 9. Watch out for your drink size, you should only be looking at a small tumbler glass size not a big gulp drinks cup! 10. Be mindful about how the juice is affecting your body and mind. Enjoy!

A report by Allergy UK states that 45% of the worlds population suffers from food intolerance. Food intolerance isn't something that should be ignored because they can lead to serious disease in the body.
Some of the signs and symptoms of food intolerance can be weight problems, asthma, chronic rhinitis, sinusitis, persistent cough, catarrh, Crohn's disease, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, constipation, bloating, flatulence, eczema, rashes, spots, headaches, migraines, hyperactivity (ADHD), heart palpitations, joint pain, rheumatoid arthritis, muscle pain, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, insomnia, ME, anxiety, and depression. Signs and symptoms can have a delayed reaction in the body, taking hours and sometimes over a period of days to occur.
If you suffer with any of the above issues and would like to be free of them, then consider getting tested for a food intolerance. The blood tests I use for food intolerance also known as IgG mediated allergy is a type 3 allergy. This tests the blood reaction of the protein of the product tested. The blood is drawn the same way that a diabetic would test themselves to find their blood sugar levels.

Better Golf
I have many services as a Holistic Health Practitioner from IBS through to being a CHEK Golf Performance Specialist. So this month I thought I'd do a little something on the subject of golf.
Many people love playing Golf and look for every opportunity to improve; new clubs, the latest gadget, and advice from a Pro to name a few. But, have you tried starting with yourself? After all it is you that swings the club to hit the ball. There are many things to consider when looking at the body in relation to the game of golf. What in the body is out of alignment? What muscles are tight? What muscles are taut? Is your core functioning correctly in order for you to generate optimal power in your swing? That’s where a Golf Performance Specialist comes in; helping you achieve better golf through flexibility, mobility, stability, strength and power.
The CHEK system looks at the body as a whole. Through a series of comprehensive questionnaires and physical assessments which include core function, spinal alignment and muscular length tension; I can get to the cause of your faulty swing pattern, I can also help you create more power in your swing through corrective program design.
My clients have been over the moon with the results they have achieved. Correana worked with Larry Beynton .He said “I’ve had many positive comments about how far I turn in the back swing. I cannot speak highly enough about Correana. Unlike most trainers, not only is she interested in your fitness but also your wellbeing. During the last ten years, I have had three heart attacks, a 6-way bypass operation. In August 2013, I went for a cardiac check up - had blood taken and analysis. My results concluded I had excellent Heart and Liver function, and my body mass was spot on. I put this down to Correana.”
Another happy client is Ben Whitfield. “I am currently playing off a handicap of 4 and represent Caerphilly Golf Club at first team standard. I also represent Caerphilly in Welsh Golfing Union events across South Wales. Since I have started playing golf, I have always been eager to improve my golfing ability and lower my handicap. One of the biggest impacts that have helped improve my game is golf personal training sessions with Correana. Correana and I initially went through the process of a postural analysis, identifying where I am least flexible and showing which areas I need to work on. Correana gave me numerous stretching exercises to improve my flexibility. Since using these stretching exercises and improving my flexibility I have found I am able to make full-unrestricted shoulder turns, resulting in more powerful and solid golf swings. This has produced further distance and greater strikes with the golf ball. I am now looking forward and feeling extremely confident for this season and certain I will get the results I have been looking for. Many thanks to Correana! She is an excellent trainer with a kind, friendly and knowledgeable approach.
So if your dream is to strike that golf ball straighter and further, get yourself a CHEK Golf Performance Specialist and turn your dream into reality. Many perceived restrictions in the body can be reversed no matter what your age is.
Aaaaaaahhhhh!
...........and Breathe
Do you ever feel like things are getting a bit too much? So much so that you just feel like, well....going Aaaaaahhhh! We can all get days like that. You've got too much going on, doing for everyone else (boss, family, friends etc.), money worries, health worries, negative self talk and I'm sure that the list could go on. If this is what you are facing on a daily basis then you must be feeling stress. This is only one type of stress, we will look at the other five another day. Stress is one of the biggest killers in the world today, and the more you are under the more you need to just stop, take a little time out and just breathe. Did you know that there is a correct way to breathe in order to take the ANS (autonomic nervous system) from a Sympathetic (fight, flight & freeze) state, to a more Parasympathetic (reset, rebuild, restore) state. Let's do an exercise in breathing together. Are you sitting or lying down comfortably? Ok, here we go. Place one hand on your tummy and the other on your chest. Take a slow deep breath in through your nose. On the first two thirds of your breath your tummy should expand and on the last third your chest should. Now slowly breathe out. Close your eyes if you wish and do 10 breaths. Once you have completed your 10 breaths be mindful about how you are feeling. Are you now feeling more relaxed, calm, happy? Do this exercise at least once a day, the more stressed you are then the more breathing breaks you need to take. As you can tell by this little exercise, it doesn't take that long. Also all that breathing is going to bring your body & mind some much needed oxygen to help you with some clear thinking and healthy human cells!
