I think back to my pre-mindfulness days when I owned my physio practice. If things weren’t at the level I thought they should be (perfect), I heard that inner voice start with its judgments and tell me all the different ways I should have approached something. I feel a soul sadness knowing how many of my days were filled with suffering because of the voice of my inner critic... I think I found something I hadn’t done quite right almost every day. I thought this was how I’d get better. I was just doing the best I could at the time with the skills and knowledge I had. I couldn’t see the goodness of all the people I was helping, I was only paying attention to how I’d not met my perfect standards. I am profoundly grateful to have learnt mindfulness. Most of my days now have a lot more freedom and lightness work-wise. They are often filled with trying something new, being creative, taking a risk, not personalising everything as my fault and letting myself be human! The reality is none of us are ever going to be perfect. But to what degree does your inner critic expect perfection from you? ⠀⠀ 📷 I feel this photo is so appropriate. From my practice of mindfulness I began listening to what my heart truly wanted. And it was to create retreats like this! My friend Cassie and I joined forces. I remember at the start my inner critic filled me with doubt about our Bali Retreat ever working. Imagine if I had of listened to it! A STEP INTO PARADISE… What could be better than a trip to Bali? How about a trip to Bali with twice daily yoga classes and featuring a week at the beautiful Floating Leaf Eco-Luxury Retreat. One of the most important legs of our yoga retreat was the opportunity to visit Balinese refugees who have been displaced by an impending eruption. We brought goods from home such as books, toys, bubbles, clothes, and candy. We donated money, but what was most appreciated by the officials and refugees was our willingness to drop in and play with the children.
