Poznan, Poland. Veterinary Inspection.
Iâve seen this story so many times, and still - itâs so incredible and amazing.
Handling & Restraint: Cat
This is a basic resource with the bog standard preclinical skills we use when handling cats, as Glasgow Vet School would like me to learn them. If anyone spots any issues, or has any hints and tips for using these skills in the real world, please let me know, as Iâm always looking for a better way to do things. Everything under the cut.

When it comes to handling&restraining the cats the most important rule is âless is moreâ. During clinical exam assistant donât have to hold the cat if thatâs not necessary. Be gentle, donât use much strenght (unless you just need to, of course). With scared/angry cats that are hiding in box cometimes best choice is to take off the upper part of the cage and just let them be in their box during the (gentle) exam.
You have to be assertive with cats. Sometimes Iâm almost lying down on them to prevent them from escaping - such âbody-cageâ I make works really well with moderate scared cats. They like do hide their head in your arm or scrubs. Most of the time they are just scared, poor little buddies.
In some article Iâve read recently there was an advice, that with cats we can try to hold head (three fingers on top of the head between ears, thumb and pinky finger below the ears) instead of scruffing but I donât know how it works.
And again - always consider your safety as the most important thing. If they get really agressive just let them go. Catsâ bites are really nasty, trust me.

When it comes to putting them in lateral recumbency itâs always good to have second person to secure dogâs head (even the owner can do that). Small dogs often struggle during this simple procedure and can hurt themselves.
And pups (or even small adult dogs)... often try to climb on yours shoulders. Owners consider it sweet or something, but it is not - they are just dominanting. Donât let them do that, hold them until they understand that they just canât dominant you as they do with they owners. Be patient and firm, they will calm down.
Always be confident and donât let them do whatever they want but at the same time always consider your safety as the most important aspect of restraining animals.
I enjoy studying the most when I donât have to study.
Hello all, especially my new followers! I wasnât here for a while and it was really suprising that Youâve started following my tumblr! :)Â

I lost a patient this past weekend. I donât know why and I will likely never know, as the owners of the dog decided not to have a necropsy to find out. The
âWhat I have come to realize is that people simply do not understand the differences and reasons full-service hospitals charge what they do, versus what low-cost clinics provide, when offering the âsameâ service or surgery. If I had a dollar for every time I heard someone say, "My God, my vet wants to charge me $400 but I can get my pet spayed down the street for 50 bucks!" then I could retire yesterday.â
When Iâm 80 years old and sitting in my rocking chair, Iâll be reading Harry Potter. And my family will say to me, âAfter all this time?â And I will say, âAlways.â

That sums it up.
First office note of residency: 2 thick paragraphs with complete sentences and impeccable grammar plus a complete physical exam for an measly little ear infection.Â
Last office note of residency: 4 4-word bullet points in HPI and 2 body systems examined for a patient direct admitted to the hospital for raging cellulitis.
