Some friends of mine (Rawn Gandy, Meg Gandy, and Mark Luetke, ) and I took a tour of VCU’s James Cabell Library’s Comics Special Collections maintained by Cindy Jackson. ”The VCU Libraries’ Comic Arts Collection features including more than 42,000 comic books, thousands of graphic novels and comic strip collections. They also include several academic texts on comics for research.”
For those of you with access to VCU’s Library, this link explains how you use the collection and provides links to the digital archives which include: Fan Free Funnies, Newlyweds and Their Baby, PS Magazine (Eisner’s work with the US military), and Sykes Editorial Cartoon Collection (these are beautiful and work the look). http://guides.library.vcu.edu/content.php?pid=131560&sid=1128258 We viewed a fraction of what was available.
