more news about kingdom hearts 3 happened and will happen later tonight so i feel the need to make a theory about something
alright, so apparently its been floating around that yen sid explains to kairi and riku why the 7 guardians of light must be found to protect the 7 princess of heart, and that there has to be one for each, so they are distinct groups
and yet Kairi is both a keyblade wielder and a Princess of Heart. So she could fall into either group, but she cant be in both. But they would not give a keyblade near the finale of something, and then NOT make her use it somehow, why hold back through the whole series on her fighting ability, only to give it to her know and never use it for anything? not gonna happen
I think Kairi will be one of the guardians of light, and NOT a princess of heart
and before you freakout about that, let me offer that someone else can take her place as Princess of Heart and the only real candidate for that is a great one as well: Namine
reasons: the direction this would take would be amazing and well thought out character arcs for both characters and it is actually plausible on Namine’s part
Kairi finally becomes the action heroine she was always meant to be, she was never feeling the whole damsel in distress special must be protected at all costs princess schtick and would gain nothing from that, but gains plenty from being able to kick ass, and Aqua would no longer be the singular token female of the guardians, AND it would make both keyblade wielder trios who have most invested in this conflict in the first place, complementary trios on either side of a seven, with either Axel or King Mickey as the keyblade wielder lynchpin in the middle (probably King Mickey, as he has more connectiosn overall to the series and to both groups, I have my own idea where Lea is meant to fit in *coughbackup light guardian contigency plan for when Sora gets Xehanorted so they still have 7cough*
Namine however, has had huge issues of guilt, mistrust and self esteem and self punishment throughout all of her appearances, always driven by a need to make up for her actions of a single game a long time ago where she was manipulated and abused and gas lighted into doing in the first place. She has been way over punishing herself the whole series, has been actually an amazing asset to the cast and really needs to have a bigger acknowledging moment with herself and the other characters that yes she is important and wanted and special. Roxas isnt the only one who needs to be told that they deserve to be their own person, and Namine has been much lacking in an important spotlight role for a long time now.
and because so far, she has felt very disconnected symbolically from the rest of the main casts. Shes not in a trio, shes not usually included in group effort things, shes been casted into very different roles, is not a keyblade wielder, and has an extremely unique power and origin that is in fact very powerful power of an unknown origin, manipulation of memories and the fact that we dont really know what exact part of Kairi Namine is anyway. Shes a uniuqe nobody, but contains neither Kairi’s Body or Memories or Heart…so you gotta wonder what exactly is she? and why wouldnt it be revealed before now.
for all we know, Namine may as well actually BE the manifestation of the Light within Kairi’s Heart.
and the fact that if anyone were to gain from being put into a role where suddenly you are the most valuable person in a group of valuable people, who must NOT be sacrificed, who is key to the success of the entire series, a role that is a bit of a damsel in distress that already feels well in character for them already, a role where someone now has to care and look after her and protect her for once, where instead of self sacrificing for the group, the group now cares for and is willing to sacrifice themselves for her, a role that contains great power, which we know this person has, the person who fits and more importantly deserves that sort of role most of all in KH is Namine
and going back to the Light thing, it is a mechanism we’ve seen before, only on the reverse
We know that canonly Vanitas is the manifestation of the Darkness within Ventus’s Heart, who also is a character who happens to occupy a unique and different role with unique strong and vast powers and is also disconnected from the idea of being part of a trio, and just as Namine is a reflection of Kairi, Vanitas is a reflection of Sora, one of darkness and evil, one of light and good. and they both have a unique connection with some part of Sora. Vanitas being connected to Sora’s Heart through Ventus’s Heart, and Namine being born from Kairi’s Heart leaving Sora’s Body
Again there is a strong thematic yin and yang duality and yet unique symbolism and comparison between these two characters, that makes me really believe that Namine being literally Kairi’s Light is a plausible explanation for what and who she is. Vanitas as Darkness and Namine as Light is even reflected in their color schemes and unique hair colors that arent explained by the parts from which they came (neither Ventus or Sora have black hair, and neither Sora or Kairi have white Blonde hair)
Vanitas and Namine are actually perfect sort of opposing foils for eachother, especially if Namine turns out to be the manifestation of The Light within Kairi’s heart, which would make her candidate number 1 for being a literal manifestation of Kairi’s “Princess of Heart”-ness, with Kairi as her chosen Guardian of Light. Because if Kairi was guard anyone’s light, it would be her own
*EDIT* Yknow what, this works even if Namine isn’t a confirmed Princess of Heart, because i rewatched the scene about the 7 Lights and 13 Vessels of Darknesses, and its never stated that the 7 Pure Lights HAVE to be the Princesses of Hearts themselves, Only that they need 7 beings made of pure light. Its just that the Princesses are people who can be Pure Lights. Master Xehanort even says that Ventus and Vanitas were a Pure Light and a Pure Darkness, but it failed because it was 1 on 1, not 7 on 13 (but also Ventus wont be on of the seven pure lights because hes a keyblade wielder/guardian of Light)
If Namine is the manifestation of Kairi’s Light, then Namine is a Pure Light just like Ventus and she counts!
