i'm sure i've made this au and this post before but i still think simon would make a fantastic baker's apprentice

early rising, extremely physical job that requires a rigorous schedule and mafia-like loyalty (3am phone call because they dont have enough hands to get the wedding tier cake onto the truck)

surrounded by the comforting smells of his favorite foods, might eventually be able to reverse-engineer that scone recipe

creative outlet that lets him practice both patience and motor skills (he remains a little thumb-fingered forever but he's actually kind of good at frosting rosettes)

bonding activity with his grandmother

when i worked in a bakery (very briefly) i was allowed to take home a LOT of leftover cake. like most non-corporate bakeries will straight up encourage you to take stuff that's about to expire. the landlady LOVES simon because he keeps bringing her miniature trifles.

simon starts making sourdough and it means that baz gets to sit there sipping his morning bevvy watching with disrespect as simon's flour-hauling shoulders to stretch-and-folds. like the pigeon with opera glasses gif. kiss the cook indeed.

The fact that nobody brings up Baz's suicide attempt ever again in the story actually grates my cheese. This massively traumatic thing happened and it... never gets talked about again? What? Simon was there AT THE SCENE I really think there should've been a "...hey Baz wanna tell me how you’ve been feeling lately." Chat or something.... and I think everybody who's ever been in that situation will know that it doesn't just get fixed or go away like that, there are so many layers and even if it doesnt get outright adressed some allusion to it throughout the rest of the trilogy wouldve been much appreciated FOR CONTINUITY SAKE. It feels very much like Baz's damsel in distress moment where Simon kisses him and fixes everything, which I find so reductive to his character and their relationship.
