Late evening, in ITHACA. Grey clouds catch the end of the sunset. PENELOPE, queen of Ithaca, sits on a balcony, twirling flowers around her fingers. When she sings, the breeze that blows sounds almost like music.
I keep waiting for a letter every day
I'm keeping the bed warm while my husband is away.
He was fighting on the Greek side at Troy
Does he know the war ended some time ago?
He still isn't back in Ithaca
Telemachus, he's 19.
She turns to look at her room, and we see a bed carved out of an OLIVE TREE. A stack of unsent letters- written by her and never sent to him- lie on the side that is made. The whole scene is sad.

Penelope is sunk down on the floor at the edge of her bed. Behind her, we see out of the window. The sky is now fully dark, and moonlight trails through the window to catch on her. Everything is more quiet now.
