It’s like drowning

Those first moments feel like an eternity nerves alight with fresh, crackling electricity. Suspended in some endless chamber with numbness hiding behind a calm exterior. It never lasts quite like that though. Soon enough that vastness swallows you up, those things the water kept you from, those memories, the pain, now it’s teeming with it. Thrashing about and clawing for the surface takes such a toll on an already battered body. The fall from grace was never an easy one to begin with. When the sensations dull again, growing fuzzy with exhaustion and tears threaten but never come do you feel the hope slip away.
