Burn-in memory
I remember quite clearly the moment I lost all respect for Arcane in season two. I had been losing respect at a rapid rate throughout the season but this was the moment where I lost what little respect I had been holding onto. It was when Jayce was confronting Viktor and told him that he didn’t have to try to fix his disabilities with Hextech because “there’s beauty in imperfections” and then Viktor admits that Jayce is right and pursuing perfection is stupid and robs the world of beauty. And I was just sitting there going wtf! Writers, are you really saying that the moral of your convoluted storyline is “don’t try to fix your disabilities or improve yourself or make the world a better place or you’ll become a soulless monster?!” For crying out loud Viktor’s problems weren’t some minor self image issues, he was dealing with severe disabilities and pain that were slowly killing him! He had every right to try to use Hextech to try to help himself and others who were suffering like him. Sure magic was dangerous but come on, it’s not like anyone else was helping him. At the end of the day Viktor should have been treated with more respect and compassion, even if he was supposed to be a villain, but that would require actually good writing which was sorely lacking in season two.
I think they were trying the parralel the ending of season 1 where in Silco calls Jinx "Perfect", so like the "theres perfection in imperfection"/ "what makes you different makes you strong" typa thing but it just fell completely flat because they contradicted season 1 in so many ways they fucking contradicted the "perfection in imperfection" thing with Jinx as they just back tracked her entire ass character
I think it would have been far more powerful if Viktor had told this to himself, like his future self going back in time and telling him this, and then Viktor instead of dying got to live on being imperfect
Anyway ya season 2 is awful
its time to let me go
canon is whatever I perceive with my third eye
Its so strange being a vertex in an interconnected web
Sometimes i spiral thinking about it, how our connections are just what we are, things are defined by other things, something can only be something with something else
Maybe we start as that first angle but inevitably that gets lost as we interact with the world and connect to other strings and angles to the point where our original angle and strings become insignificant to who we are
You could prevent this ofc, this sorta dilution of your "original self", but that'd make one very lonely and isolated as well as bored, if you dont have ppl you have other things: stories, hobbies, travel, these are also points of connection, the web of the world is truely inescapable
using violence to liberate people from sweatshops, unsafe mines, and grinding poverty isn't the same as using violence to impose those things on people. the idea that violence is morally repugnant regardless of context is a belief that every oppressor throughout history would love for the oppressed to hold
