Thoughts on ‘Veil of Shadows’

My post about The Silent Thaw seemed to gain some attention, so I’m doing that again.

Warning: Spoilers and some swearing bc we be shook.

The allegiances already had me weeping, bastard man as deputy??? No thanks

Then the prologue came along and I was shooken bc that’s my bOY

Jayfeather recognising Bramblestar’s voice sent me, that’s his dad!!

Bristlefrost continues to be an espionage queen, I loved her so much in this book, like damn look at that character development.

Speaking of development, hello Rootspring

Bitch really went from being an edgy little emo child to a confident king, we stan

Violetshine talking about Darktail also had me crying, why don’t we ever talk about how much this girl went through?

Bramblefake really made Flipclaw a medicine cat just because ‘birds live in the sky!!!!! And they had sparkling eyes!!!!! Like stars!!!!!!!!!’ I was screaming

Bramblefake just exiling cats left and right was peak comedy

Honestly kinda mad that Rootbristle is probably gonna be a thing, like him having a crush is adorable, but please stop there

Shadowsight in his spirit form confronting the imposter gave me c h i l l s, I was literally shaking

Also, the imposter has blue eyes. It’s Ashfur isn’t it?

Tigerheartstar is kinda growing on me just because he’s such a good dad.

Greystripe standing up to Bramblefake was iconic, yes bitch we love you.

Leafstar gets better with every page

The suicide scene was.....questionable

But also, Starclan is trapped by a fucking...bramble bush....guys

The battle scene was pretty good, love how Tawnypelt literally yeeted Berrynose, what a queen

Also ROSEPETAL IS DEAD IM SO MAD

When I tell you I cried, I mean I genuinely sobbed, I love Rose so much

All the clans being like ‘hol up’ when Harestar died and everyone turning on Bramblefake was 👌

‘I came back for you.’ It’s totally Ashfur

Bristlefrost being relieved when Squirrelflight didn’t keep her as deputy, honestly same girl

Mistystar how dare you exile my girl Mothwing, I am mad

Not to mention the fact that Mistystar is still alive??

And finally, another cliffhanger?? Bitch really??

Final thoughts: I think this book is probably an 8/10 (really good, but not as good as The Silent Thaw), and the imposter is 100% Ashfur

Thoughts on The Silent Thaw

First of all...what the fuck.

(Spoiler territory ahead, also lots of swearing bc I’m quaking)

The writing was good??????? After the catastrophe of AVoS’s second half, I was beginning to lose hope that the Erins could write well. But damn, they really did That.

I love all the protags with my whole life; Shadowsight (top quality name btw) is my baby, Rootpaw is utterly hopeless and I love him, Bristlefrost is an espionage icon, she and Ivypool need to team up please and thanks.

Lionblaze was iconic and actually had a purpose instead of just being the sole contributor to Thunderclan’s population. Like, “I’ll check who my parents are before I’m born” had me wheezing.

The fact that Rootpaw’s crush is just like common knowledge and he’s so awkward about it. I mean, I don’t ship it but go off.

And the fact that they stopped the most intense Gathering scene since about arc 3 for everyone to fangirl about how cute he is while Bramblefake is sat there like “What the fuck guys” is just *chef’s kiss*

Speaking of Bramblefake...what the fuck is going on in here on this day?

He was so controlling of Squirrelflight, imma have to get this bitch to leave. And the way he acted around Bristlefrost??????? Ew??????

Literally not a single existing character seems to fit all of the clues we have about him

If the imposter is some dumb shit like Darktail or OG Tigerstar, or God forbid a new character, we riot

Although, he is probably the best villain we’ve had for a while, definitely on par with Sol or Darktail. Like, he’s genuinely terrifying and his whole identity is a mystery, unlike some of the more in your face, Bad Guy McBad type villains that we’ve had previously.

I could talk about Bramblefake all day but I’ll probably just make another post about my theories.

I could watch a whole TV show of Rootpaw and Brambleghost having fun adventures together. I like to think that at some point Rootpaw just gets used to having him around and they just end up hanging out and venting to each other.

As much as I hate to admit it, I actually kind of like Dovewing in this series. Like, she annoyed the shit out of me in OotS, but now that she’d matured, she’s really sweet and a good mum who would probably bake brownies for her kids every weekend. I still can’t stand Tigerheartstar though, please just let Cloverfoot be the leader.

until one morning brambleclaw wakes up to very large blue eyes two inches from his face, and hes just like “JAYKIT wha-”

lionkit was SUUUUUUPER clingy to squirrelflight & brambleclaw tbh. squirrelflight would come ot the nursery to lay with her kits for awhile and lionkit would clamber on her like “MOM I HAD A DREAM THAT YOU COULD FLY i thought it was kind of cool. daisy and ferncloud told me you cant fly but i know” lionkit leans in close “tht you can do anything.”

he’d just attach himself to her side at all times and constantly be like, right there, whenever squirrelflight is having a conversation. and when brambleclaw comes back from a patrol? its all over. lionkit runs full speed right into his legs and brambleclaw is wincing like “kid youre going to hurt your head-” while lionkit makes his home right there underneath brambleclaws belly, and will not move. its the softest part of his dad and he protects it viciously. hes so attached to them and its kind of adorable

and HOLLYKIT loved to copy her parents whenever they did like literally anything. hollykit would just follow brambleclaw around, if he was sitting giving orders she’d copy his exact movements and sit right next to them, she’d follow squirrelflight and take notes and copy whatever she was doing

she was pretty much like a little shadow……………..quiet sometimes, but most of them time she’d just look up at brambleclaw in like amazement and he’d be like “what’s wrong, holly berry?”
