You tried texting. you tried calling. You tried everything.
But it was like they had vanished off the face of the earth.
You didn't want to believe that they'd been dragged back to the underworld with all the other demons. But the days just went on, passing in a flash without a sign of the boys.
It hurt more than you thought it would.
You found comfort in the fact that the other girls seemed to miss the demon boys just as much as you did. Mira didn't outwardly show it, but you heard her mumble-singing Abby's 'Your Idol' lines a few times.
Radio silence went on.
What would this mean for you? You found the one guy you finally fell in love with, and now he's nowhere to be seen. Was Aphrodite just taking you for a fool? Was this her way of playing a prank? Of messing with your life?
Huntrix's comeback concert served as a distraction. A way for you to throw yourself so deep into something that you couldn't think about your tragic love life.
But after that was over, and you formally introduced to the fans again, there was nothing to keep your mind from wandering.
The weeks passed.
Just as you were starting to believe they'd been sent back with all the other demons, your phone buzzed with a message.
Can I see you now?
You stared at it. Eyes flicking up to the contact name, then back at the message. You closed your eyes, relaxed, then reopened them. Thinking maybe you were seeing things.
Is this what 'ghosting' is?
You snapped out of it, and furiously typed back a message.
Where have you been??
Are you okay??
Where are you???
You didn't stop firing questions, relieved to be hearing from him because that meant he was still up here. But angry that he kept himself hidden for so long.
You didn't answer me
Is it safe to see you now?
You blinked. Then typed,
I'm going to kill you.
He had the nerve to react with a heart. And then even more nerve to send the following response as if he hadn't been hiding for weeks:
Missed you too, sweetheart ❤️
You gave him the go-ahead to come to the tower. Knowing that the other girls needed to see theirs alive and well as much as you did, you also told him to bring the other boys.
Only for everyone to watch in horror as you clocked Mystery in the jaw the second he walked into the room.
"That's for the snake," you glared at the demon.
Romance laughed, before stopping abruptly when you turned and punched him in the arm, with the deadliest glare on your face that made even him shrink back a little.
"And that's for disappearing and not saying anything!"
He rubbed his arm where you'd hit him, looking sheepish, "I thought you would try to kill me."
Your eyes widened. You knew your last encounter before Gwi-Ma's attack hadn't been great, but you didn't think that he would be afraid of you actually...hurting him, much less killing him.
The thought of even doing that made your chest tighten.
"You're stupid," was all you said, voice barely above a whisper.
He grinned, leaning forward, "I'm your stupid."
"That doesn't make sense!"
"But it made you smile, didn't it?"
Your laugh faded into a smile, like he said, and you gazed up at him with wonder and adoration in your eyes, "After what I said, you're still trying to make me smile?"
He brought his hand up so he could gently grasp your chin, eyes sparkling with love, "I will always try to make you smile. Besides...I said something equally as bad."
"Yeah but-"
"No buts," he cut you off, then slipped his hand into yours. "Come on, I've got something that I think might make you forget about all this."
You followed him to your room, curious, to see what he meant when you stepped out onto your balcony.
There, before you, was the most romantic little dinner set up. Candles, flowers, cute little chairs...the whole thing. You stared in awe, but a part of you also wondered when he had time to set this up.
He pulled out one of the chairs for you, gesturing for you to sit down. Still stunned, you did and only spoke when he seated himself across from you.
"How-? When-?" You couldn't even finish your questions.
"Does it matter?" He reached out to take your hand again. "It's long overdue, anyway." He seemed to have a silent debate with himself after that, his expression growing nervous.
"Oh my God," you gasped dramatically, "Is this a break-up dinner? Where you let me down easy?" He opened his mouth to respond, but you continued, "Where you tell me there's some else?" You gasped louder, "Do you like one of the other Huntrix girls?"
He face-palmed, "Will you calm down? It's none of that. Nothing bad, I promise." He paused, then frowned, "And is a break-up dinner even a thing?"
You gave him a look.
"Right," he shook his head. "Okay, well, there's no easy way to say this-"
"Your name is literally Romance."
He shot you an exasperated look, "Well my name is kind of failing me at the moment."
You laughed, "Okay, just take your time, Unromantic."
"Now that's just mean."
You laughed once more, before falling silent when he pulled out what looked like a ring box. You opened your mouth to say something, but he stopped you.
"It's not what you think. Not yet, anyway."
Not yet.
He thought about his words for a moment before speaking again, "Demons aren't taught to love. We're taught that we're incapable of it, and that it's a silly human emotion that makes us weak and vulnerable. Most demons don't believe in it, and a lot think it's a complete joke. I was one of them." He paused, then continued.
"And then you fell out of the sky. And with you came a storm of emotions and feelings I didn't know how to handle."
You stayed silent, letting him speak, mostly because you didn't think you had the words to respond.
"The more I spent time with you, the clearer those feelings became," he continued. "You made them clearer. You taught me how to handle them. And being with you has changed everything. In a way I never wanted, but now welcome with open arms. I love you, (Name), and if you'll let me, I'll spend every day showing you just how much, until the day I get you a real ring."
He opened the box, and in it sat a stunning (gold/silver) ring with an intricately carved rose, the petals glowing a rich red. Like tiny rubies, though you suspected they weren't rubies.
"My blood," he told you when he noticed you staring.
"What?!" You almost choked. "Is this-"
"No," he laughed in relief at that being the reason for your shock, "When a demon presents a gift to someone they love, it's usually infused with a part of them."
"Oh," you gasped. "That's...meaningful."
"I wouldn't be offering this to you if I wasn't sure you're the one I want," he added, looking hopeful. "I want to keep throwing lame pick-up lines at you and flirt so badly you end up laughing at me, for as long as you'll let me."
Your eyes welled up, and you lifted your hand to let him slide it on, "Romance, I...I don't know what to say."
"You don't need to," he kissed the ring on your finger, his eyes on you. "Accepting the ring speaks louder than your words could." He wiped away a tear that fell. "You're beautiful even when you cry."
"Stop!" You choked out a laugh, then reached up to cup his face in your hands.
"Never," he grinned.
And then you kissed him.

When darkness meets the light.
That phrase echoed in your mind as you ran all the way to Namsan Tower, desperation driving you to sprint as fast as you could possibly go. Thank the gods for all those years of running away from monsters - your stamina and endurance was unmatched.
The sight that greeted you when you got there chilled you to the bone. Almost the entire city was gathered, fans with mixed Huntrix and Saja Boys shirts in the crowd. Mira and Zoey in the crowd. Bobby in the crowd.
"No, no, no..." You muttered to yourself, pushing through the crowd that was still filing into the stadium.
The darkness was suffocating. As a child of light, you were so used to being surrounded by it. Not having even a little bit felt weird to you, so this widespread darkness was making you incredibly anxious and nervous. So you summoned a ball of light to illuminate your surroundings, which caught the attention of fans who had previously been in some kind of daze.
This made you wonder...
You made the light bigger, and it started attracting more fans. Just when you thought you might be able to do this, though, the Saja Boys started singing.
Immediately, everyone's focus snapped back to them.
The darkness enveloped you again.
You tried once more, a glowing sphere lighting up the palm of your hand. You focused on making it bigger, expanding it until you were standing in the sunniest spot in the city.
The boys sang louder.
You concentrated even more, using all your willpower to expand your light and cover a bigger area. The fans surrounding you all snapped out of it, but five demons against one demigod was still too much and you couldn't keep their attention.
The darkness pushed back, trying to snuff out your light. You pushed back harder, now being forced to lift both hands on either side of you to keep the darkness from overwhelming you.
Now you understood how Annabeth and Percy had felt holding up the sky.
An invisible force was fighting against you, and it felt like you were trying to stop a solid wall from closing in on you. You focused all your strength into making your light brighter, into shoving the darkness away from you, but it was a struggle.
Romance started to falter when the first whimper left your lips.
There you stood, on your own, trying to save your friends and the new world you now called home. You hadn't been here long, you didn't know any of these people, but you were still putting your own life on the line. You could have walked away, claimed this wasn't your fight, but you didn't.
The crushing force started to overwhelm you, and the muscles in your arms started to burn.
Your first scream caused the pink-haired demon to miss a note.
Then you screamed again, only you didn't stop this time. You were pushing your hardest against the invisible force that threatened to destroy you, and the effort was taking a massive toll on your arms.
It was getting harder and harder to keep pushing.
Romance broke rank, the fear of you burning out far outweighing his fear of what Gwi-Ma would do to him. And yes, you two hadn't exactly parted on the best of terms but if he allowed this to happen he'd never get to fix that and that would be his biggest regret.
You weren't fazed by his demon form as he appeared before you, glowing amber eyes and all.
"(Name), you need to stop," he spoke urgently, clawed hands delicately cupping your face, "This is killing you."
"Have to try," was all you could breathe out, your voice strained.
"You don't have to always save everyone!" He pleaded, his voice cracking a little.
You offered a weak smile, "Demigod's nature, right?"
He was about to respond when Gwi-Ma yelled in outrage, "YOU DARE DEFY ME?"
Before either of you could say anything else or do anything, a familiar harmony filled the air. Followed by words you had heard before.
"We are hunters. Voices strong. Slaying demons with our song. Fix the world and make it right. When darkness finally meets the light."
Rumi.
You lifted your head, as Gwi-Ma taunted her for showing up like that - one eye yellow, one arm a demon arm, and her patterns glowing vibrantly.
For a moment, you were worried she was going to give in to her demon side.
And then she said, "So we can make a new one." Her head snapped up, her eyes returned to normal, and she started walking forward. Singing a song straight from her heart.
You were still fighting the darkness, though some of the load was taken away because of Gwi-Ma's surprise at Rumi's appearance. So your arms still burned, but not as badly as before and you were able to push the darkness back a little, expanding your area of light.
Rumi's expression softened when she saw you, which encouraged you to push harder. Romance was still in front of you, watching Rumi, before he looked at you again.
"Don't tell me to stop again," you warned him.
He opened his mouth to say something, but a female voice you'd heard before cut him off.
"Useless!" The she-demon snarled, shoving him aside before ramming into you as hard as she could, knocking you off balance. You stumbled and drew your dagger, light fading.
Romance stepped forward, but you shook your head, "No. This one is mine." You tightened your grip on your dagger, "Time to see if celestial bronze works on demons."
"He's a great kisser," she taunted, "You're lucky."
You glowered at her, before lunging. She side-stepped your strike, but you were a bit quicker to recover than she expected because you whirled around and plunged your blade into her arm. Dark blood dribbled from the wound, and she hissed at you.
You ducked her swipe, "Huh, so it does work."
Behind you, Rumi was still singing and gaining back the fans as well as Zoey and Mira. The Saja Boys had stopped singing entirely, watching your fight, but when the three girls started coming together again their focus shifted to them.
The she-demon charged you again, but again you were quicker and you easily dodged. Your experience in situations like this also helped, your body moving instinctively. You landed several cuts on her body, all deep enough to draw blood, and she howled in pain when you struck her everywhere you could reach.
Other demons joined the fray, but Romance helped you by keeping those ones at bay while you dealt with her.
But the brief distraction allowed her to get a clawed hand on you, in a vital place too. She lifted you up by your throat, squeezing, with a malicious grin on her face.
You struggled against her hold, one hand grasping at hers while your other came up and jabbed your dagger into her side. She screeched and let you go, stumbling back and giving you a look that screamed 'murder'. She lunged forward again, swiping at you, but now moved sluggishly because of her wounds. You kicked her down, placed your foot on her neck, and then pressed down hard.
"What?" You mocked her as she struggled to lift your foot. "Nothing to say?"
She gurgled, unable to get a word out.
You drove your dagger right between her eyes, chest heaving as she exploded into dust. Then you straightened up, and your eyes met Romance's.
But you'd have to deal with that later.
You ran to join your friends, who were in the process of cutting through dozens of faceless demons to get to each other. You reached them just in time for the four of you to reunite with an embrace, Rumi's patterns glowing a chromatic rainbow now.
Then, you turned and faced Gwi-Ma - and the rest of the Saja Boys - together. But to your surprise, the boys parted and gave you an open route to their king, who roared in outrage.
You spread the light, and Rumi, Mira and Zoey cut Gwi-Ma in half. The demon king shook the earth with his scream of pain, before fizzling out and becoming nothing more than a memory.
The crowd cheered.
The Saja Boys disappeared.
You turned to your friends, just happy to be alive (you'd come to appreciate the feeling over the years) and happy to have saved the lives of the fans.
But you couldn't help but think about how Romance had every right to be angry at you for what you accused him of, but he still chose to run to you when your life was in danger. You'd never had someone do something like that for you.
They were accused of having no feelings, scorned for being resentful, shameful creatures...when instead they had more humanity and more emotions than some people you knew.
You smiled for the fans.

The Idol Awards show was here.
You and the girls had patched things up - as much as you could with you and Rumi still refraining from telling them her secret - and now you were preparing to go on stage and sing 'Golden'.
The nerves were hitting you hard especially. This would be your first time on stage, in front of a crowd. And while you were usually confident, a part of you was worried about the Saja Boys. They would be watching, and you wondered what Romance would think.
When you heard the Saja Boys were fighting, the four of you were excited. You had your chance now.
But you didn't get to go on stage.
Turns out it was a divide-and-conquer ploy.
Because you stepped out of that dressing room and felt your heart stop when you were met with a sight that made you wish the snake had you in its clutches again.
A very familiar pink-haired demon lip-locked with what looked like a fan.
For a moment, you were stunned and your mind stopped working. Then you opened your mouth to say something, only to feel someone coming up behind you.
So, naturally, you turned and punched them.
"OW!" Romance screeched, his hands flying to his nose. "What was that for?"
"Are you kidding me?" You glared at him, hands balled up into fists.
"Okay, you're mad," he groaned, "And you punch really hard when you're mad."
"You really want to make jokes right now?" You snarled. "After what you just did?"
"What?" His eyes snapped up to your furious expression, "After I did what?"
"Don't play dumb!" Your anger grew, your fists starting to glow. Betrayal wasn't a new feeling to you, but this one stung more than any of the other times in your life.
Romance's eyes flicked to your glowing hands, his own coming up in a gesture of surrender, "Wait, I can explain-"
"Oh, you can?" You hissed. "You can explain why you were kissing someone else? Really?" You threw a ball of light at him, which he just managed to dodge with an undignified and high-pitched yelp. "Seems to me like there's nothing to explain!"
"Kissing who now?" He ducked behind the nearest object as you hurled another ball of light his way.
"I always knew you liked your fangirls more than you let on!" You raised your voice, forming an even bigger ball of light in the palm of your hand.
Romance watched it grow in size with wide eyes, confusion replaced by nervousness, "I don't know what you're talking about!"
"LIAR!" You roared, the light orb hitting the wall above his head when he ducked once more. " I TRUSTED YOU!" Your chest heaved, anger beyond anything you'd ever felt overwhelming your senses. "Turns out that was a big mistake. You were a big mistake."
His eyes widened, his shoulders sagging a little, "You don't mean that."
"Yes I do!" You yelled. "They warned me! I didn't listen, and now I'm paying the price. I thought because of Aphrodite's words that you might be the one, but it turns out you're just a disgusting, vile and rotten creature from hell!"
He flinched with each word like they were stones thrown, hurt filling his usually bright and confident eyes. He was confused, afraid, and now...pained.
"What's causing this?" He spoke, almost whimpering.
"YOU!" You snarled, jabbing a finger at him. "You did!"
"I didn't kiss anyone!" He shot back, his own frustration growing. He was tired of this and tired of being seen as nothing more than a shallow playboy. "I thought you knew I wasn't like that!"
"I thought I did too," your voice cracked, but then came back even louder and more furious, "And then you kissed her! Right in front of me!"
Before he could say anything, a familiar figure emerged - the girl he'd kissed. She offered an awkward smile, thought something felt off about her now.
"Oops, am I interrupting something?" She asked, voice sickly sweet. The kind of voice that demons think passes for human.
"You!" You snarled, whirling on her.
"(Name)!" Romance jumped in between the two of you. "What is going on with you? You're not going to attack a random citizen...are you?" He sounded unsure.
"Oh, now you're defending her!" You turned on him again, raising your hand.
Before he could even process what he was doing, your arm was bleeding. Three long scratches oozing red. His own hand raised, darkened into his demon form and elongated into claws.
Claws now dripping with your blood.
You stumbled back, blindsided. Your eyes fell to the marks on your arm, shock taking over your system. Anger fading, replaced by pure disbelief and hurt.
"(Name)-" Romance's voice shook. His own eyes locked on the gashes, wide with horror. He stepped forward, reaching for you.
You backed away, "Don't touch me."
He stopped immediately, wincing like you'd struck him physically. He took a step back, nodding in understanding.
"You only know how to cause pain," you told him, voice barely above a whisper.
He stiffened, then said something he regretted the moment it slipped out of his mouth from his boiling-over frustration, "And all you know how to do is fight. Demigods are hardwired for battle, right? Not love."
Your eyes widened. The wind was knocked from your lungs, like you'd been hit square in the chest with a shield during a training fight. Only this was very, very real.
You blinded him and the girl - who you'd both forgotten about - with a harsh ray of light before disappearing. When the light faded, you were gone, and Romance was left with an unfamiliar gut-wrenching feeling.
The girl turned to Romance when you were gone, her glamour fading to reveal a very familiar demon that left a bitter taste in his mouth.
"Missed me, sweetheart?" She grinned, glowing yellow eyes anything but sweet and innocent.
Romance growled.
You ran to find your friends, fighting back your tears. When you found them, though, it was just as bad as what you'd gone through.
Mira was raising her weapon towards Rumi, whose patterns were now glowing. One eye yellow, one hand clawed. Your eyes widened as you stopped before them, watching Rumi run away.
"Did you know?" Mira asked you, not looking at you.
"Yeah," you answered quietly. Voice weak and full of pain.
They didn't care. They looked at you, betrayed and angry, before turning and walking away. Everyone going their separate ways, a once unbreakable bond now shattered.
You stared after them for a while, before dropping to your knees. You let the tears fall, hugged yourself as your body trembled.
Was everywhere you went going to be filled with pain, misery and betrayal?
You sat back on your heels, looked up at the darkening sky with glassy eyes, and screamed. Anguish, desperation, frustration all bled into one as you screamed into the sky, until your throat was raw.
And then you fell onto your back, completely drained emotionally and physically. Your eyes drooped, and you lost consciousness.
Elsewhere, Gwi-Ma's demon boy band was amassing a huge crowd, the demon king himself whispering in all their ears and driving them to follow the Saja Boys to Namsan Tower.
You dreamed of home.
Of your friends.
Of camp.
Percy approached you, looking just as hazy as your surroundings. He offered you a warm smile, and placed a hand on your shoulder.
"I can't do this," you sobbed. "I miss you guys. I miss home."
"You're doing great," the son of Poseidon reassured you, "You're exactly where you need to be. We miss you, but they need you. More than anything."
"It doesn't feel like it," your voice cracked. "Everything is so..."
"Messed up?" He chuckled. "Ruined? Hopeless? We've been through that before. Many times. And we've always pushed through, right?"
"I don't think I can this time..." You admitted quietly. "I'm tired. I'm tired of fighting. Of being placed in life-threatening situations that I always have to solve."
"I know," he sounded sympathetic. "But you're almost done. Just this one last thing. You can unite them, (Name). Just like you and your half-siblings united kids at camp with your songs over the last few years. This time it's just a little different."
"You just need to wake up."
Your body jerked upwards, eyes flying open. Your chest heaved as you breathed heavily, looking around with wide eyes.
No, you weren't back in your world. But you were still home.
And right now, it needed you to be stronger than this.
You slowly got to your feet, your body protesting every movement. Your arm was still bleeding, but that was fixable. Healing yourself was easy enough.
Healing a whole world? Different story. But you were going to try.
Your first task? Stopping Gwi-Ma from devouring those souls.

summary - with no time to spend recovering, you and the girls plan your next move for the Idol Awards show, though tensions quickly rise and you find out something you didn't expect
warnings - none
part one • part two • part three • part four • part five • part six • part seven • part eight • part nine
At first, you were fine.
Then the nightmares came, and you found yourself jerking awake almost every night, cold sweat dripping down your forehead. Eyes wide in terror, chest heaving as you breathed in and out heavily.
It wasn't an incident that could be easily put behind you.
You'd faced the most evil of creatures in your home world, fought the most primal and chaotic forces, but none of that had ever shook you as much as this. The image of the large snake was seared into your mind, the flash of its fangs sending shivers down your spine.
You spent most nights in the kitchen, scrolling through your phone with a cup of hot tea steaming nearby. The tranquility of the tower at night eased your nerves and helped to soothe you.
On the other hand, the Idol Awards show was drawing closer day by day, and the girls were still uncertain about which song they wanted to use.
"'Takedown' is such a hateful song," Rumi argued.
"Because we hate demons!" Mira shot back.
"Not all demons," Zoey pointed out, though she wasn't convinced about her own words, after what Mystery had done.
"Rumi is right," you finally spoke up. "We can't bring the fans together with a hate song. We need to sing something that will unite people and hate songs definitely don't do that." Rumi nodded along.
"How about 'Golden', then?" Mira suggested.
"'Golden' is good," you agreed. You'd heard it the other day and it was a really good, uplifting song. Perfect for the situation, and aptly titled.
"Okay, then we'll sing 'Golden'," Rumi decided, and everyone agreed.
After talking about the show for so long, you went back to your room to relax. Your mind drifted, and you ended up thinking about how nice it was that even though the danger was imminent, it wasn't a life-threatening quest that tested your willpower everyday.
But now you were torn.
Torn between sending the demons back to their leader and trapping them all in their realm, and keeping them up here with you.
Rumi had already voted for the latter. She insisted that they weren't really bad guys, proven by Jinu and Romance thus far, but Mira and Zoey weren't as convinced of this as you were. Mystery had messed up badly, and Abby was...well, Mira had no real reason to not believe him other than the fact that his abs annoyed her.
Romance offered to take your mind off everything, which you didn't hesitate to agree to.
"How's your arm?" Is the first thing he asked when he saw you.
"It's…better," you told him, glancing at your bandaged limb. He raised an eyebrow, and you laughed, "Hey, I've had much worse than a snake bite before. I've broken so many bones in quests in my home world that I've lost count. This is nothing."
"Is it normal for demigods to be so casual about their physical health?" He asked, concerned.
"Yep."
The more you spent time with the Huntrix girls and Romance, the more you realised that demigods missed out on a lot of normal things to do. You always knew that you didn't have a typical life, but this all really put it into perspective.
Like watching movies in the cinema.
You were so hardwired for battle that when the screen was on a character's perspective and another character threw something at them - making it seem as if they were throwing it at you.
Your dagger was out in seconds, your heart racing.
Romance's eyes widened when he saw your weapon, and he looked around quickly before covering it, "Are you okay?"
You breathed a sigh of relief, "Usually when things are thrown my way, they're real. Sorry, I just-"
"You've never even been to the cinema?" His jaw dropped slightly. "I thought that was a thing all humans got to do."
"Not demigods," you shook your head. "Never any time for that."
The rest of the movie passed without you drawing your weapon again. It was a new experience, and you found that you really liked it. Now that your proximity to digital devices didn't alert nearby monsters, you figured you'd be here more often.
After the movie he took you to get ice cream, and although he was brave enough try the strangest flavour they had listed, you couldn't help but laugh when he gagged and made a face.
"Not good?" You asked, licking your own, normal-flavoured treat.
"This could be used as a bioweapon," he held it out away from him. "Who would subject themselves to this?"
You laughed.
It became a regular thing for you to sneak out of the Huntrix tower, and you would have felt bad if not for the fact that the other girls were guilty of the same thing.
But the Idol Awards show was drawing closer, and you were under increasing pressure to act before any real damage could be done. Demons were popping out of rifts in the Honmoon at a quicker rate now, and in bigger droves.
Rehearsals for 'Golden' couldn't be going worse, with you, Mira and Zoey under the impression that Rumi was hiding more than just her secret rendezvous with Jinu.
Rumi seemed convinced that there was another way to stop Gwi-Ma and keep the demon boys with you up here, and while you hoped that was true you couldn't help but agree with Mira - if there wasn't, you were going to have to make the difficult choice and seal them all away.
Or worst case scenario, kill them all.
But you didn't want to think of that. Not now, when he was the only thing keeping you from exploding.
"What are you not telling us?"
Tensions kept rising to the point of Mira confronting Rumi on top of a moving train, after you'd killed a few demons that had popped out of a rift there.
"Not everything is about your insecurities, Mira!" Rumi finally snapped.
Stunned silence. Three of you on one side, Rumi on the other.
"Guys!" Zoey exclaimed, gesturing behind Rumi.
The biggest rift you'd seen yet opened, and out tumbled dozens of demons clawing their way to the four of you. You drew your dagger, knowing that your bow would be useless in this situation.
You fought your way through, but Rumi seemed unfocused and distracted so she ended up getting knocked down by a bigger demon. Fortunately, Mira slashed it to dust and slammed her weapon down, vaporising the rest.
No one said a word.
"The passengers!" Rumi got up, and the four of you rushed to check the train.
Only to see it devoid of life, phone scattered everywhere with the Saja Boys' video playing on every one.
"Look," you approached Rumi after a tense moment with Zoey and Mira that ended in them walking away. "I know I haven't been here long, but it seems like you can trust them with anything. Whatever you're too afraid to say, they'll be able to handle it. Give them more credit."
Then you walked away, but stopped when your instincts told you something was wrong. You turned back to Rumi, your eyes wide.
"You're..."
The marks glowed just over the tip of her turtleneck.
She didn't meet your gaze, hers cast to the ground. You were confused about why you hadn't sensed it sooner, because you were usually adept at picking out supernatural creatures. But maybe it was her human side that had masked it.
"They don't know?" You asked quietly.
"No," she confirmed, her voice barely above a whisper. Then she looked up at you, frowning, "You're not angry?"
You raised your hands in surrender, "Not my place to judge. But..." You paused, then carried on, "My friend Percy has a half-brother that many people thought was a monster. He's a Cyclops. But people's opinions changed. I'd like to believe that if even the most stubborn demigods can change their perspective on someone like that, then Mira and Zoey can change theirs."
You left her with that, going back to the tower with your own mind reeling. The similarities between this world and your own were startling.
When you got back to the tower, you picked up your phone and asked him something.
Can a human have a baby with a demon?
The response was instant, as if he'd been waiting all day for you to message him.
Yes, why?
I think we should get married first, though ❤️
You face-palmed.
No! Not us
I was just curious
Also, married??
He chose to ignore your last question.
The baby will have demon marks, though
You stared at that message.
That meant her father must have been a demon, if her mother was a hunter from the previous generation.
But I've never heard of it happening
Maybe we can be the first
Your cheeks burned.
Slow down!
He sent laughing emojis.
With cheeks hotter than the sun, you set your phone down and lay back on your bed, Staring up at the ceiling as you mulled this new information over.
Everywhere you went just proved that not all supernatural creatures were monsters.
Maybe there was hope yet.

summary - an Apollo kid's WORST fear is a snake, and Gwi-Ma forces the demon boys to use this against you
warnings - feelings of fear/terror, anxiety, angsty a little as well, mentions of blood, injury
part one • part two • part three • part four • part five • part six • part seven • part eight • part nine
You stood and stared at the snake.
It stared back. Huge, poised, and ready to strike.
Your eyes widened. Your body stopped functioning. Fear entered your brain and clouded it, wiping away all your rationality. Your heart thundered in your chest, so loudly you thought you could hear it.
The snake slithered forward.
You stumbled back.
Your throat constricted. Your muscles stopped working. You couldn't move, your body failing you in this terrifying moment.
Children of Apollo were deathly afraid of snakes. Because Python had been your father's rival, all snakes were terrifying to you. And your first instinct was always to stay away or run away from them.
The snake surged forward, slithering towards you rapidly.
Pulling your bow out was out of the question. That would take too long, and your hands were already shaking violently. You fumbled with your dagger, the weapon slipping through your fingers like it was covered in butter, dropping to the ground with an embarrassing clatter.
The snake stopped. Looked down at your dagger, then up at you.
"Wait," you managed weakly, voice trembling.
Then you turned and ran, when your body finally remembered how to move. But your legs felt like lead, and you ran like you were moving through water.
The snake's hissing was the only reminder that it was still behind you.
You stumbled through the streets, which seemed eerily and oddly quiet today. Not a single soul was in sight, even the cars parked and devoid of inhabitants. The shops were all closed, except for the local grocery, but the cashier had his headphones on.
And you didn't want to trap yourself in a confined space with the dreaded creature.
So you kept running.
Demigods had stamina and endurance. It came with doing quests yearly - all the running and fighting you had done over the years giving you the strength to push on.
But there were very few places to hide.
And every time you tried to throw yourself into a crevice or hiding spot, the snake hissed louder. Making your body tremble more.
And you stupidly left your phone in the tower.
The snake's hissing stopped.
Your blood turned to ice when you turned and saw it wasn't following you anymore. Your chest heaved, breathing shaky as you looked around with wide, wild eyes. Frantically searching for it.
Now you knew how the Athena kids felt when they lost sight of a spider.
"This cannot be happening," you mumbled. "Why a snake?"
The creature's tail wrapped around your ankle, tugging hard. You tumbled forward, hitting the ground face-first, hard. Your head throbbed in complaint, as hissing once again filled your ears.
You pushed yourself up with arms, blood dripping from your nose. You were briefly reminded of Percy's nosebleed, and this might seem pale in comparison but the fear was just the same. Especially when its tail tugged again, and just dragged you towards it.
You tried reaching for something, anything, but there was nothing around you. You tried kicking its tail with your other foot, making it hiss and let go slightly. You took this as your chance to escape, kicking it off you and getting to your feet.
Sprinting away faster than you ever had sprinted before. And that was saying a lot.
The snake continued its chase.
You weaved through buildings, went in through front doors and out the back, but the long, scaly devil was relentless. Not giving up its chase, it found ways to catch up with you.
And then it did something you'd never seen a snake do before.
It took a short cut, heading you off up ahead. Appearing out of nowhere, making you scream and stumble back. Falling onto your ass, you stared up at the snake incredulously. And in sheer terror, because when the hell did snakes do that?
Your nose was still bleeding, but that was the least of your problems right now. Your body was frozen again, muscles shutting down.
Which allowed the snake to wrap its tail around your waist, and squeeze. Your cry of pain fell on no ears, since no one was around, and your struggle to push it off you was in vain.
It squeezed harder.
You tried biting it.
It bit you back.
And searing pain shot through your arm. This one wasn't poisonous, at the very least, but it still hurt like nothing else ever had.
And you'd broken bones.
You screamed.
Your vision blurred, pain the only thing you could feel in that moment. You continued to try and force the creature off you, but if your shoving had been useless before it was definitely nothing to the snake now. Just irritating taps.
"Please," you tried reasoning with it, voice weak and shaky.
And then it dropped you.
You fell onto your hands and knees, skin scraping the hard concrete. Then you slumped over, clutching your chest as you rolled onto your side. You'd definitely cracked some ribs when it squeezed you.
But you knew better than to assume it dropped you out of pity.
You forced yourself to your feet. Despite the blinding pain, you managed to keep yourself upright after years of practice.
Aiming an arrow straight between Romance's eyes.
"(Name)-" He raised his hands in surrender. Behind him, the snake lay unmoving.
"What was that?" You hissed, stumbling a bit but keeping your bow raised. "A snake?! Really?!"
"I didn't know!" He protested, "I swear, I didn't! Please, you're hurt..."
"I've had worse," you snapped, but stumbled again. "Just..."
Romance caught you before you could face-plant the ground again. You tried to resist, but he held on tight and stubbornly refused to let go of you.
"I didn't know he'd resort to that," the pink-haired demon mumbled. "I told him I'd leave you alone, that I'd focus on our task, but he..."
You'd had a lot of experience with fake stories. So initially you were sceptical, but he sounded genuinely confused. And when he trailed off, there was this betrayed look in his eyes that no one can fake.
"Hey! Let her go!"
Romance was surrounded moments later, his head snapping up and a low growl leaving his throat when he saw Rumi, Zoey and Mira.
All aiming their weapons at him.
"Wait, no," you tried sitting up, flinching when pain erupted in your chest. "It's not what you think-"
"I said let her go!" Mira snarled.
"Mira," Rumi was staring at the bite mark on your arm. "Romance didn't do that." The other two looked at your arm then, their eyes widening.
"He could have summoned the snake," Mira glared at Romance again.
"No, Mystery did that," Zoey sighed, her voice resigned.
"How do you know?" Mira and Rumi asked simultaneously.
"He has a spellbook, he told me," she looked back at you, her eyes sad.
"Romance."
The remaining demon boys suddenly appeared behind you and Romance, Jinu calling out to him. He stiffened, looking down at you. Then, without you blinking, he was behind Jinu.
Leaving a small cut on your arm - for appearances.
"You!" Mira snarled when she saw Mystery, raising her weapon.
Rumi stopped her, "Not now, Mira."
Zoey was helping you up, letting you lean on her as Rumi tried to keep Mira from killing the purple-haired demon.
The demons just watched, Romance looking at you worriedly, then vanished in a haze of smoke. The other girls gathered around you, their weapons disappearing.
"Let's get you back to the tower."
When you were back at the tower, they helped you into your bed and watched you heal your internal injuries yourself, the cuts and scrapes now the only indication you'd ever been attacked.
"Awesome!" Zoey's eyes lit up.
Rumi and Mira gave her a look.
She laughed nervously, "I-I mean, you should never have to use that power..."
You cracked a small smile.
When the girls left you to rest - after asking you countless times if you were fine and if you needed anything - your phone buzzed with an incoming message.
Are you okay?
You debated whether or not to respond, then typed.
Yeah, I am.
The reply was instant.
Good ❤
You smiled a little at that. Then he sent another message.
I don't want to push you away. And I'm tired of listening to Gwi-Ma. You're more important to me, and I want us more than I want any soul.
Your eyes widened, and your heart skipped a beat. Then you replied.
I want us too.

summary - your attempt to avoid the pink-haired demon goes awry after the fan signing event, and you realise you are not as cut off from your world as you thought
warnings - a little angsty towards the end
part one • part two • part three • part four • part five • part six • part seven • part eight • part four
Common sense only hit you the day after.
You woke up feeling incredibly guilty, though you weren't sure why. Rubbing the sleep from your face, you sat up, staring groggily out the window.
Kissing a demon had not been on your bucket list. It wasn't something you had planned to experience, and now you weren't sure where that left you. Kissing the very thing that was threatening this world felt like some kind of violation of a code you felt you had as a demigod.
You ignored all his texts that day.
Trying to clear your head, you refused to acknowledge his presence. You stress-baked, stress-cooked, and stress-ate. And then your ADHD kicked in, making you too jumpy to sit around in the tower all day.
Good thing the girls had an idea for that.
"Hey, wanna come to our fan signing event?" Zoey asked you, her eyes alight with excitement that she never seemed to lose.
"That could be fun," you agreed, getting up. "I can't sit still, anyway."
"You'll get to meet some of the fans," Rumi smiled, "They're so sweet."
It seemed like a good idea at the time.
Unfortunately, the demon boys had a thing for crashing Huntrix events, and to your frustration they appeared there too.
You refused to look up even when Rumi invited them to sit with you guys. Keeping your eyes on the stack of posters in front of you, you ignored the demon that took a seat beside you.
"Oh, the cold shoulder," you could hear his smirk, "Very hurtful, (Name)."
You looked up at him, "You're a demon. You don't feel hurt."
Truthfully, you had no idea why you were saying this. To hurt him? To push him away? To regain some dignity and attempt to erase what you did?
His smile faltered, "Where did you hear that? Your hunter friends?"
You didn't answer.
He turned away from you, finally, and began signing posters. Exaggerating compliments to fans, saying them loud enough for you to hear, making it obvious he was doing that to spite you.
You told yourself it didn't bother you. That this was your choice. But from the way you gripped your pen so hard it was going to snap any moment, anyone could tell you were annoyed by his blatant flirting with the fans.
You mentally cursed Aphrodite out in English and Ancient Greek.
And then cursed Romance to only speak in rhymes.
His eyes widened when he tried to say something, then turned to look at you, who was trying your best not to laugh. Under the table, he pinched the side of your thigh, and you jumped. His smug grin was very telling.
He somehow made the rhyming curse work. You rolled your eyes when he continued flattering the fans, and his grin widened.
"Will you stop that?" You finally hissed.
"What?" He smirked, amused by your irritation. "I'm just being friendly. People love friendly idols."
"You're doing a whole lot more than that!"
"Aww, are you jealous?" His smirk grew. "Ready to talk to me again, or are you still going to brush me off?"
You jabbed your heel into his foot, making his yelp loudly and then clutch his throbbing limb. Then you turned away from him, and continued smiling at and interacting with fans.
He leaned in and whispered in your ear, "Just so you know, you don't have to be jealous. My eyes are always on you."
"Really?" You replied dryly.
"You know, you're being mean today," he rested his head on the palm of his hand as he looked at you. "And I don't think I did anything to deserve this treatment."
"This can't happen, okay!" You snapped. "You're a demon. Here to take over the world for your boss. I'm on the other side. We're not supposed to like each other." Then you got up, politely excused yourself, and fled the scene.
You stepped out into the back alley of the building, letting out a shuddering breath as you ran your hands through your hair. Your breathing came out rapid, shallow, your heart racing. The fresh air helped a little, but did nothing to calm your reeling mind.
As much as you hated this, as much as you hated pushing him away, your rational side told you it was the right thing to do. He was a demon, they weren't made for love, and he was here for one thing only.
"(Name)!" A voice rang out from behind you.
You turned, eyes widening to see Romance had followed you out.
"Romance-"
"I don't care," he closed the distance in three strides, stopping right in front of you. "I don't care that you're a hunter now. I don't care what side you're on. You tell me I don't feel, but how can you explain why I'm so obsessed with you? You think I'm here just for Gwi-Ma, but how do you explain why all that's on my mind now is you?"
You opened your mouth, but nothing came out. You stood there, frozen, his words ringing in your mind. Before you could respond, he was suddenly tugged into the ground, and your eyes widened.
"Romance?!"
"Interesting one, isn't he?" A very familiar woman's voice filled the air. "You think he's all flirt, no emotion. Clearly there's more to him than I thought."
You glanced up slowly, eye twitching when you saw Aphrodite standing there, "What did you do to him?"
She looked offended, "That wasn't me. His boss needs to have a word with him."
"And what if I don't want to?" You crossed your arms. "This is your fault!"
Yeah, demigods weren't great at talking to gods. But who could blame you? They were so infuriating. And you were mad, so mad that she made you fall for someone you clearly couldn't have.
"That's love, dear," she smiled, though painfully, as if she was reading your exact thoughts. She probably was.
"Not this again-"
"Love isn't easy. Every couple has their obstacles."
"I got it," you grumbled. "Why are you here? Please don't tell me you want a 'thank you' gift?"
"Do you have one?" Her eyes sparkled, then she sighed when you said nothing. "Anyway, I'm not necessarily here regardless. We can't appear physically in this world, so-"
"Oh I get it, you're a friendly hallucination," you mumbled.
"Exactly!" She beamed. "But I do want to tell you something. There's always another way to stop your enemies, and you know how."
You blinked, "That's it?"
"Good luck!"
And she disappeared. You didn't think Iris-messages could be transmitted here, but you guessed gods could find a way if they really tried and really wanted to give you vague advice.
You screamed into your hands, then kicked the curb. Only to wince and hop on one foot as pain erupted in your toe.
At that moment, Romance reappeared from underground.
Your eyes widened.
He looked at you, his own wide with terror, "You're right. This won't work." Then he turned and walked away, leaving you more confused.
You didn't call out to him.
Later that day, as the sun set, you sat on your bed staring at your blanket. Knees tucked against your chest as you replayed the day's events in your mind.
You didn't hear the knock on your door.
"(Name)?" Rumi called tentatively.
You finally lifted your head, "Hmm?"
"Are you okay?" She stepped inside, approaching you slowly.
You sighed, "Define 'okay'."
She sat on the edge of your bed, looking worried, "Do you want to talk about it?"
You hesitated for a moment, then sighed, "Figures that the first time I genuinely like someone, everything goes wrong. Sometimes I hate being a demigod, you're always cursed in some way."
Her expression softened, "If you're worried about Romance, we're-"
"No, it's not him. It's Gwi-Ma. I felt like I was making headway with Romance, and then Gwi-Ma just sucked him into the ground. When he came back...he was different." You groaned and let yourself fall onto your back on the soft mattress.
Rumi was silent for a moment, before she put a hand on your knee comfortingly, "I think I'm getting through to Jinu. Maybe you should try talking to him. Make him see that there's more to his life than Gwi-Ma."
"Do you really think that will work?" You asked, lifting your head slightly to look at her.
"Maybe," she nodded, "If he's as serious about you as he looks."
"What?"
Rumi just smiled, "You'll figure it out."
As she got up and left, you stared at her. Then picked up your phone, looked at it like it was an alien for a moment, before switching it on.
You typed out a message.
Can we talk?
He didn't reply.
A few minutes later, you checked to see if he'd even read it, and he had. Your shoulders sagged, and you tossed your phone aside. If he was going to ghost you, fine.
No, not fine.
Romance.
No response, left on read.
Then you got up, left your phone, and went out of the Huntrix building to take a walk. Fresh air usually cleared your mind; you used to walk around at camp often.
That is, until you saw the snake, and your entire body went rigid.

summary - you think you're falling for the demon, but the worst part is that you don't want to stop
warnings - none
part one • part two • part three • part four • part five • part six • part seven • part eight • part nine
It soon became very clear to you that even in this world, you were going to have some issues.
Not the monster kind, no, which was a bit of a relief. But panic still settled in when you realised what the problem was going to be, because this was your first time experiencing it.
You were starting to like the pink-haired demon.
And it was freaking you out.
You don't even know how it started. You had planned to ignore all his texts after your in-person meeting the other night, but that plan fell flat and you ended up responding to each one. Which led to longer conversations, and more meaningful interactions.
Huntrix had seamlessly integrated you into the group, announcing that their new member, you, would be debuting at the Idol Awards show. Now, it felt like you had lived there all your life.
But the internal war that was raging inside you over how to feel about the demon stressed you out, because what if the girls found out?
"(Name), do you have a crush on someone?" Rumi wiggled her eyebrows with a silly little grin as she noticed you smiling down at your phone.
After another text from the flirty demon.
"What?" Your eyes widened, and you laughed nervously. "No! I just saw...a funny video, that's all..."
"Sure," Mira smirked. "And I have blue hair."
"It's true!" You protested, "I haven't even met anyone, except for the demon boys. And I definitely don't like any of them." Even to you, those words were a little unconvincing.
"That's right!" Zoey gasped. "Let's get you to meet someone, then!"
"Wait, what?" Your eyes widened. "What about-"
But she was already dragging you out the door, and you had no choice but to let them take you wherever they had planned this time.
The Saja Boys showed up, though.
"We can't get a moment of peace!" Mira glowered at them.
You tried to avoid looking at Romance. You knew he was just going to smirk at you and you were going to giggle like a high schooler and that was going to give you away.
"Funny meeting you here," the leader, Jinu, smiled innocently at Rumi, who was also shooting them a scathing look.
"Get lost," she hissed at him.
"I'm afraid we can't do that," he leaned forward, smirking, "It's just too fun to watch you girls squirm in public, unable to do anything in front of all your adoring fans."
Rumi jabbed her heel into his foot, making him cry out in pain, and grinned triumphantly, "Oops, sorry. Didn't see your foot there."
He glared at her.
Then, apparently, they had conjured up some divide-and-conquer plan because as Rumi started bickering with Jinu, Abby approached Mira with the cockiest smirk on his face, Mystery tapped Zoey on the shoulder and she blushed, and Romance sauntered up to you confidently. The only one who had no interest in anyone or anything was the teal-haired baby-faced rapper.
"We meet again," Romance grinned, leaning in towards you so that you could choke on the amount of perfume he'd sprayed on.
"Stop that!" You hissed, face burning at his proximity.
"But I'm not doing anything," he smiled innocently, "Unless..."
"Don't say it!"
"Oh, I see," his smirk grew. "You finally-"
"Shh!" You hissed.
"Ah, we're having a secret affair, got it," he winked.
You groaned and buried your face in your hands, "You are going to get me caught!"
"That wouldn't be a bad thing," his tone became even more flirtatious, "You could always come stay with me. Well, us." He said the last part like his bandmates were a nuisance he had to put up with.
"Romance!" You scolded.
"Fine, fine," he raised his hands in surrender. "We'll tell them when we're ready. Heard you loud and clear."
Your jaw dropped again, but before you could even say anything to that bold statement, you were pulled away by your new bandmates, who were getting tired of the boys.
"Come on, (Name)," Mira scowled at Romance.
As you followed the girls back to the tower, you turned back and looked at Romance once more. He was the last one there, watching you go with what looked like - dare you even assume - longing?
Then you saw something in the evening that made you wonder if you could tell the girls how you felt.
Rumi was sneaking out one way, Mira went out another, and Zoey was searching all your rooms like she was checking if you were there.
As you yourself were sneaking out.
You followed Rumi and Mira, keeping your distance so they couldn't sense your presence. The purple-haired hunter went one way, and the pink-haired one another, but it was pretty clear what they were out to do.
The same thing you were.
After spotting Rumi with Jinu and Mira with Abby, confirming your suspicions, you went back to your own secret meeting. The pink-haired demon was there, waiting on a bench and shaking his head in dismay.
"You're late tonight," he raised an eyebrow. "Trouble sneaking out?"
"Sneaking out isn't an issue when there's no one else in the tower," you crossed yours. "Your friends brainwashed mine too?"
He gasped, dramatically putting a hand over his heart, "You think I'm brainwashing you? I'm offended."
"Right, I guess I should give you the benefit of the doubt," you sat down beside him on the bench. "I mean, you have been nothing but cocky, arrogant, overconfident..." When his face fell, you laughed. "I'm kidding. You've actually been really sweet."
He smiled at that, then lifted one of your hands to his lips and maintained eye-contact as he kissed your knuckles.
Your breath hitched, anything you were going to say dying in your throat.
"You look shocked," he noted. "Is that not...normal, for couples?"
"Are we a couple?" Your face burned.
"Well, I like you," he admitted easily, "And if you're here, that means you like me too. Am I wrong?"
You didn't say anything for a moment.
"You can admit it," he smirked, though his voice trembled just slightly, as if he wasn't completely sure you did. "You saw the others, we both know it's happening all around."
"What about Zoey?" You asked.
"Mystery is there," Romance confirmed. "Though I'm sure you knew that."
"Yeah..."
You weren't sure if it was the knowledge that the other girls were in similar situations, or if it was because he kissed your hand like a gentleman, but found yourself leaning in.
And before you could stop yourself, your lips met his.
He kissed you back like he'd been waiting for this moment since he'd first seen you. His arms circled your waist, pulling you closer gently.
Like his name, the kiss was romantic. Slow, sweet, with a tenderness you would never expect from a demon. But he handled you like you were glass, delicately and carefully.
When you pulled apart, your face was flushed, your eyes wide. But when you looked at him, he was the stunned one.
"What?" You bit your lip, trying not to laugh. "Never been kissed before?"
"Not like that," he shook his head, snapping out of it.
"But you have been kissed before?" You raised an eyebrow, crossing your arms.
He didn't realise you were playing with him and genuinely panicked, eyes going wide and mouth opening only to release some stammered words and confused, panicked noises.
"Relax," you laughed, standing up, "I'm teasing. I'll see you tomorrow."
And you left him sitting there, jaw dropped and speechless for the first time in his life.
You went back to the Huntrix tower, only to see Mira climbing in through the vents and Rumi sneaking in through the front door. You laughed softly, before waiting for the all clear and then going inside yourself.
You all met each other in the penthouse.
"Hey...guys," Rumi smiled nervously, a smile you came to recognise as her failing to hide that she did something she wasn't supposed to.
"Where have you guys been?" Zoey asked the three of you, hands on her hips.
"Oh, please," Mira scoffed. "I saw Mystery!"
"How?!"
"Does this usually happen with all demons?" You asked them, half amused and half worried.
"No!" Rumi's face went bright red. "I mean...does what happen?"
"Oh, forget it," Mira muttered. "We all know."
"Yeah, I felt that it was hopeless to ask," Rumi agreed.
"So..." You looked at the three of them. "I'm going to bed. See you guys tomorrow." And then you started walking to your room.
"Wait, wait, wait!" Rumi protested.
You turned and walked right back, "Worth a try."
The four of you stood there in silence for a few minutes, neither of you looking at each other. You suddenly found the lights more interesting than anything else.
Then...
"He's been sending me notes!"
"I was talking to him over text!"
"He said I could beat him up, which I didn't!"
"He just appeared in the tower!"
Four different excuses rang out all once, so none of you really heard the others' words. Then you all stopped, blinked, and spoke one by one.
"How did this happen?" Mira asked, eyes wide.
"Has this ever happened to you before?" Rumi turned to you.
You shook your head, "No. Because according to Aphrodite, this was meant to happen for me."
"What?" They asked in unison.
You sighed and explained, cheeks a little warm.
"So, essentially, you were screwed over by the goddess of love?"
Another sigh, "Just another day in the life of a demigod."

Not being hunted or attacked the moment you woke up was a nice change of pace. In fact, not having to wake up early because a monster had sniffed you out was great.
You opened your eyes and were met with the ceiling, which was a huge relief. You used to always wake up tense, you forgot what it was like to just...wake up.
Slowly sitting up and having the time to stretch was even better, a satisfied moan falling past your lips.
And then you realised you woke up very, very early.
Glancing out the window, you witnessed the sun just starting to rise. Usually that meant your father was pulling it up in his chariot for the day, but here you assumed it just rose on its own. Which caused a pang of sadness to hit you.
Again, you were used to waking up at all odd times in the morning. Part of being a demigod meant having an unpredictable sleep schedule.
You got out of bed, not hearing any movement within the tower so you assumed the others were asleep. That was fine, you could just make breakfast for anyone. Would be nice to also sit and eat, instead of shoving food into your mouth on the go.
Yeah...the more you thought about it, the more you realised how absolutely insane a demigod's life was. It had always been normal to you, but now in a world where there were no ancient Greek monsters trying to kill you, it seemed so...crazy. The vast differences in the pace and intensity of a demigod's day and a mortal's was now very clear to you.
You tried not to make much noise as you started gathering ingredients and spices to make breakfast.
"You're up early."
You didn't even flinch, just turned around and smiled at a very sleepy Rumi, "Yeah, I have weird sleep schedule. When you're a demigod, it's kind of messed up. Did I wake you?"
She shook her head, "No, this is when I usually get up." Then she yawned.
You turned back to the stove, preparing the food.
The others joined a few minutes later, each still losing the last remnants of sleep as the sun rose further into the sky. You found yourself watching subconsciously while you ate.
Rumi noticed this, "Your father is the god of the sun, right?"
"Yeah," you confirmed. "Watching the sunrise is usually comforting, because in my world he pulled it up into the sky every morning. Now it just feels...different. I know it sounds weird, but the sun feels like a stranger now."
"It's not weird," Rumi reassured you. "It's just different, and that's not always a bad thing."
You smiled at her.
Later that day, you told them you didn't own a cellphone because monsters could track demigods easier that way, and they gasped. You panicked, forgetting you were in a different world.
"Wait, what if they-oh, right," you smiled sheepishly. "Carry on."
They took you on a tour of the city, vigilant because of the apparent threat of those demon boys. Which made you start thinking of the pink-haired one, and Aphrodite's words again, and what an absolutely chaotic mess your love life was about to become.
Just then, your phone dinged.
Don't forget, 9:37pm ❤
Your eyes widened, jaw dropping at the heart emoji, and you fumbled with the device a little as you typed out your reply.
How did you get my number?
You bit your lip, watching the typing bubble pop up instantly.
I'm a demon, sweetheart. I have ways.
You left him on read, rolling your eyes. What an incredible violation of your privacy, you thought, but also...no. You couldn't put a positive spin on this, even if it was incredibly tempting because he was...NO.
You groaned and put your phone away, just as the other girls swarmed you with tons of new clothes in their arms. Your eyes widened, overwhelmed by the sight, because new clothing was never a luxury demigods could afford.
They would only get ripped again in battle.
"Woah, uh, that's a lot of-" They didn't let you finish, dragging you off eagerly to the changeroom.
"Oh, you look great!"
"That really suits you!"
"Guys, you don't have to-" You started, but they had already bought it for you. "Oh, uh, thank you."
"You're welcome!" Zoey beamed. "We take care of our own!"
"Your...own?" Your eyes widened.
"You're new to this world," Rumi stepped forward, smiling gently. "And you're special, like us. We want to help you. So now, you're one of us."
Your throat constricted a little.
Usually when people were super friendly for no reason like this, you'd be extremely suspicious. After your encounter with Medusa in your first year at camp, you had learned the hard way not to trust just anyone who smiled and treated you well.
But these girls were different.
They were genuinely good people, and they were sincerely looking out for you. It was refreshing, again, to not have as many worries as you did back in your former world.
After a very long day of touring the city, shopping, and meeting some very enthusiastic fangirls of Huntrix, you arrived back at the tower. While the others were spent, you still had quite a bit of energy left despite it being so late.
They stared at you.
You shrugged, "When you get exhausted every day fighting monsters, you kind of enjoy days off. Nothing tires me out like that."
They ended up going to take naps, promising to show you the latest movies when they woke up. They were tired, though, so you figured they'd be out for a while. And so you pulled out your phone.
Let's meet then.
The reply came again instantly.
Oooh, eager to see me? I like it.
You rolled your eyes, sending another message.
Just tell me where and send me the location.
Again, instant reply.
Aw, don't worry new girl. I'll meet you wherever is easy for you.
So clearly, Romance was a romantic. Who would have thought?
Fine. Where I fell out of the sky.
Then you shoved your phone back into your pocket, ignoring the buzz of his reply as you grabbed a jacket and headed out the Huntrix building.
He was there first, leaning against a lamppost casually. Shirt sleeves extra puffy, hair extra bouncy, lips extra pouty.
When he saw you, he smirked, "You actually came."
You crossed your arms, "Do many girls reject you?"
"What?" He gasped. "No! I mean, look at me. Who would reject me?"
You raised an eyebrow, "What do you want, demon?"
His look of surprise turned into one of amusement, "Can't wait to get to know me, hmm? Why so impatient? We have a lot of time."
"This is what you called me for?" You sighed. "What a waste-"
"I want to get to know the girl that fell out of the sky," he pushed off the lamppost, walking over to you. "It's not everyday that humans, or demigods, fall to earth from the heavens."
"Is that a pick-up line?" You frowned, "It's horrible."
He just grinned, "Oh, sweetheart, if I used a pick-up line I would do so with much better execution. And a much better line."
"Right," you crossed your arms. "Your name is literally Romance."
He chuckled, "Even so, I'm being honest. No flirting unless you want it."
"Oh, right, because demons are so trustworthy," you snarked.
His eyes widened a fraction, and then he laughed, "You really are fiery. Well, I love a good challenge. These human girls make it too easy."
"They're not toys for you to play with!" You narrowed your eyes, his attitude reminding you of how the gods treated mortal women.
"Relax, I don't do that," his smile not once faded, "They just fall at my feet by themselves. That's all I meant. You, on the other hand..."
"Oh you find it refreshing?" You rolled your eyes, though a part of you was actually enjoying this banter. "Because that's real original."
He laughed again, "All I'm saying is that you're not boring and one-dimensional, and it's intriguing. I like a woman who's not afraid to insult me to my face."
You face-palmed, "This conversation is going far from where I expected it to." But already, you were starting to realise the meaning behind Aphrodite's words. Despite this demon irritating you with his cocky attitude, you were now even more drawn to him than before.
So that confirmed it, this is what she had meant.
"Where did you expect it to go?" He grinned, leaning forward.
"Never mind," you grumbled. "I should get back before they wonder where I am."
"Oh, you're staying with the hunters?" His smirk grew. "Now you're forbidden fruit. Even better."
You had to stop yourself from wringing his neck. Without another word, you turned and walked away from him, your mind racing and heart beating faster than it should be.
He was so utterly infuriating...but you found yourself wanting more.

You woke up falling.
Actually falling from the sky, the bright blue expanse almost blinding you when you finally opened your eyes. Your descent was rapidly increasing in speed as you got closer to the ground, and you tried to turn to see how far away you were.
Only to feel the wind pick up your weight and gently lower you the rest of the way, until you were safely on the ground. In the middle of an apparent boyband performance.
Several dozen pairs of eyes landed on you. The crowd that had previously been cheering the performers on went silent, and the boys stopped singing. You stood there, frozen, unsure of what to do now.
"Hi?" You waved, wishing now more than ever that you were invisible. Or had been born a child of Hecate, so you could find a spell for invisibility.
People fainted. Three girls stared at you like you were an extraterrestrial. The boys all blinked at you.
"So..." You continued. "I'll just be going."
You turned and tried to run, get the wind to carry you away or do anything to get out of there. But then a hand closed around your wrist and you vanished, reappearing behind a nearby building.
"Who are you?" One of them asked.
"Where did you come from?" Another demanded.
"Why did you fall out of the sky?"
You couldn't keep track of who asked which question, especially since they were all staring at you. Even less so when your eyes landed on the one with pink, heart-shaped hair.
"I'm a demigod," you told them casually.
"Is that a type of demon?" The boy with the brighter pink hair asked, frowning in confusion. Clearly the brawns and not the brains.
"She means half god," the black-haired boy narrowed his eyes at you. "But what is a demigod doing here? I thought you were all myths."
When you heard this, your eyes widened in realisation, "Oh. Oh, no."
So you had died. You figured as much, because there was no way you could have survived Caligula impaling you. Not only was the wound location fatal, but you had also lost a lot of blood. Now it made sense.
You were in a different world entirely.
Before you could say anything further, though, three girls jumped down in front of you. With glowing weapons raised at the boys.
"Stay away from her, demons!" The one with the extremely long purple braid growled at the boys who'd sort of kidnapped you.
Huh? Demons?
"She landed in front of us, hunter," the black-haired boy grinned, showing off sharp fangs. His skin glowed unnaturally, and his eyes flickered amber for a moment.
They weren't human.
"So?" The girl with the hot pink hair snarled, "Doesn't mean you get to keep her!"
"Doesn't it?" The demon with the darker pink hair taunted them.
You sighed. Pinching the bridge of your nose, you muttered something under your breath, and a blinding light came to life between the groups, forcing them to stumble away from each other.
Their heads all snapped to you.
"Hi," you smiled. "Daughter of Apollo, nice to meet all of you. Now, can you tell me exactly what the hell is going on here? Why does his skin glow like that? And why are his eyes yellow?"
They stared.
"Right, sorry," you continued, "I fell out of the sky because I died in my home world saving my friend's life. Does that clear it up?"
They exchanged glances.
Then the black-haired boy opened his mouth to speak, but the girls grabbed you and fled with you before he could get anything out. Your eyes widened, but you didn't protest. After years of experience with weird situations, you learned not to question it. And you learned to realise that they must have a good reason for it.
They took you back to their tower, a massive building towering over the city with the word 'Huntrix' in big glowing letters on it underneath a strange symbol - probably their symbol.
"Those were demons," the purple-haired girl finally told you when they had you safely inside. "I'm Rumi. This is Mira and Zoey." She gestured to her friends.
"(Name)," you introduced yourself.
"You...don't have any questions?" Mira raised an eyebrow.
"Where I'm from, you get used to surprises," you shrugged. "Nothing really fazes me anymore. I've seen a lot."
"So, a demigod, right?" Zoey's eyes lit up. "What kind of powers do you have?"
"Zoey!" Rumi and Mira scolded.
"It's okay," you laughed. "And it usually differs from demigod to demigod, but I can curse people to speak in only rhymes, I'm gifted with archery, healing is also a specialty of children of Apollo, and I can...sing. Though I'm not sure how useful that is."
The three of them exchanged looks.
"That's so cool!" Zoey's grin widened.
"Thanks," you smiled. "So I'm going to assume those boys were the bad guys and you're the good guys?"
"Pretty much," Rumi nodded, "They work for a demon king called Gwi-Ma. He sent them here because we're close to sealing the Honmoon and locking them away forever."
"What's the Honmoon?" Is the only question you had.
As they explained how their world worked, and you explained how yours worked, your mind wandered back to the demons.
Specifically the one with the pink, heart-shaped hair.
You'd only met his gaze for a second, but that one second was more electrifying than any other eye contact you'd had with anyone you'd liked before.
You needed to see him again to be sure, but now Aphrodite's words to you made sense.
No demigod or man shall heal your heart.
She didn't say anything about demons.
"So you have loads of experience in fighting supernatural creatures?" Mira asked you when you were done exchanging stories. She almost sounded like she was in awe.
"Oh, yeah," you nodded. "With demigods, you're hunted from the age of twelve. Fifteen, if you're the child of a minor god. But for my friend Percy, he was hunted early because his father is one of the biggest gods in existence. But all the life-and-death situations we faced from the moment we got to camp made it a learn-on-the-job kind of thing. And there were plenty of learning experiences."
They gave you a tour of their tower, even settled you into your own room. Made sure you had everything you needed, and excitedly promised to take you shopping the very next day.
"We're just going to take care of those demons," Rumi told you later that evening. "We'll be back soon."
You nodded and watched them leave, then settled onto the couch and turned on the TV. A game show was on, which then featured...the very boys your new friends were out to kill. Once again, your eyes landed on the demon with the heart-shaped hair.
Why were you so drawn to him?
Then you saw his name, and you almost smacked yourself.
Romance.
This could only be a trick of Aphrodite's, or worst case Eros's. Because what were the chances of the love goddess telling you that, only for you to find someone named Romance?
They were drinking from bottles, which you soon realised were hot sauce bottles. You found yourself laughing at each one's reaction, more so when the game host said Romance was out due to heartburn.
The irony of it all was making your head spin.
You thought that was going to be it for the game, until the black-haired demon - Jinu - pointed out Rumi, Mira and Zoey, who had very clearly been trying to sneak attack the demons.
Somehow they got roped into playing nice in front of the audience, and you couldn't help but laugh because it reminded you of when you'd had to behave normally in front of mortals while there was some sort of creature a few feet away.
After the show ended you're not sure what happened, but you continued to watch something else while you waited for them.
Eventually, though, you decided to go and check on them.
Near the studio that the game show was filmed in, you heard chaos emanating from the bathhouse. Knowing that could only be them, you were about to make your way inside to help, reaching for your dagger, until someone pulled you away.
You were spun around to see the pink-haired demon smirking at you.
"Hi there," he winked. "I saw you staring earlier."
"What-"
"There's no shame in being attracted to me," he fidgeted with his puffy shirt sleeve. "After all, it's only natural when you look like I do."
Your jaw dropped. You've seen your fair share of flirting - mostly thanks to the Aphrodite boys at camp - but this was something else. He talked so smoothly, his words so effortlessly silver-tongued, that you were taken off guard.
"Speechless?" He grinned. "That's the ultimate compliment."
"I'm not-I wasn't-" You stammered, not sure why he was having such an effect on you.
"Shh," he put a finger on your lips, "I won't tell anyone if you don't. But I want to see you again. So shall we make this a nightly thing?" He looked at your watch, "9:37 pm every night?"
"That's very specific-"
"I'll see you tomorrow night."
And then he vanished, leaving you very confused about what just happened. So much so that you almost forgot you were rushing to the girls' aid.
"You okay?" They asked after the water demons had been taken care of. They hadn't been surprised to see you coming to help.
"Yeah, fine," you shook your head. "Just been a weird day."
They nodded in understanding, and the four of you retreated to the tower. You got ready for bed, hoping your creepy vision dreams didn't follow you into this world.
Thankfully, they didn't, but you ended up dreaming about Romance.

"Abby, what did you just say?"
You looked from Tae, to Baby, to Abby. Waiting for the bigger demon to explain the bombshell he'd just dropped on you. Even the other girls were intrigued, but the boys looked unsurprised.
"Brother?" (R/Name/2) asked Tae, her eyes wide. "You have a brother?"
"So apparently they just don't tell us about their siblings," you looked at Baby, who was just now starting to get back up. "Baby, why didn't you tell me you have a brother?"
"I didn't expect to see him!" Your husband protested.
You sighed and pinched the bridge of your nose, "There's no way the world is this small. Tying you and Romance to my old friends."
Tae seemed to light up at the sight of his brother, and that told you that he was the younger one. Which seemed odd, because you always thought if Baby ever had a sibling, he would be the younger one.
"What are you doing here?" Baby asked him, still looking shaken. More so than you'd ever seen him.
"What are you doing here?" Tae asked him. "Last I heard, Gwi-Ma ordered you to ki- take out these hunters."
"Plans change," Baby shrugged.
"Plans cha-" Tae sighed. "Okay. And how did you end up with a baby?"
Baby opened his mouth to answer, but you smacked the back of his head before he could get a word out, already knowing how he was going to answer that question.
"Why is Baby's younger brother more mature than him?" Mira asked.
Baby glared at her.
You laughed.
He glared at you too.
"Maybe we should talk about this at the tower," Rumi suggested. "I just really want to get out of here."
"Same," you agreed.
The boys got rid of Celine's body, but you didn't want to ask how. As long as they disposed of it, you didn't need to know the details. And you didn't want to.
You took Tae and (R/Name/2) back to the city, though you weren't sure where you were going to go since Huntrix tower was destroyed.
"We can go to our tower," Romance suggested.
You, Rumi, Mira and Zoey stared at him, "What?"
"Yeah, we have a tower too..." Jinu laughed nervously. "We sort of...bought a building and made it our own."
"And you haven't used it since?" Mira's eye twitched.
"W-well it was more fun to be around you girls!" Romance stammered, nervous now.
"I see there's a lot of things you haven't told us," you crossed your arms, your glare directed at Baby specifically. Who was currently refusing to meet your eyes.
They avoided that comment entirely, instead leading you to their tower. It was much like yours, only more...colourful. 'Saja Boys' hung in glowing neon letters across the side, again like how 'Huntrix' had been written across yours.
"Wow it's...something," Mira remarked.
"The design looks very familiar," Rumi's eyes narrowed.
Jinu ushered you all in before you could point out that it was exactly like the Huntrix building had looked.
Inside it was very different, though. There was more colour, the furniture was more eccentric, and the lights gave you vertigo. You're not even sure why - maybe because of how swirly and loopy they were, taking your eyes on a rollercoaster ride.
"This is...interesting," Zoey smiled, looking around like even she was intimidated by the vibrancy of the building's interior.
"Forget the furniture," Baby waved your fascination off.
Everyone chose a different seat to sink into, from the varying heights and softness of the bean bags, finger chairs and normal sofas.
"Now," Baby leaned forward, looking directly at Tae. "Explain."
You face-palmed, Aera cradled against your chest in your other arm. But you leaned back in your seat, letting Baby handle this since he was itching to know why his brother had made his existence known.
"I met (R/Name/2) and we ended up bonding and I realised that not all humans deserve to have their souls sucked out of them," was Tae's elaborate explanation.
Yeah, now you could tell they were brothers.
"So what happened to you?" Tae asked, now much less shy than he originally had been.
"Pretty much the same thing," Baby told him, and you, once again, found yourself face-palming. If demon kings, ancient demons, and former hunter friends couldn't kill you, this brotherhood would.
"Anyway," you turned to (R/Name/2), still holding Aera against your chest. "What happened to you after we split up back then?"
"I travelled a lot at first," she started, "Just going from place to place, helping out the local hunters where I could. Found Tae in (random country) and saved him from-"
"Hunters!" He quickly interjected, which you were now sure wasn't the truth. Because straight after, his face turned red.
"Right..." (R/Name/2) nodded along, then turned back to you. "After that he sort of just...stuck with me."
"Hey! You wanted me to stay!"
"It's giving reverse Baby and (Name)," Romance observed the two, trying not to laugh. His grin vanished at the look you gave him.
"So what's the story with the teal brothers then?" Mira asked. Then she turned to Romance and Abby, "You two don't have secret siblings, right?"
"He wasn't supposed to be here," Baby grumbled.
"He came up so I came up!" Tae raised his hands in surrender.
You looked between the two. The resemblance was definitely there, they looked alike. But somehow, somehow, Tae had a more mature face than your husband did.
"Okay fine," Baby relented, begrudgingly, "We both had to do some really terrible things to help out our family. I won't go into what, because then (Name) will divorce me. But it was some pretty bad stuff that I'm not proud of. When we got stuck in the demon world, we drifted apart and I kind of...forgot he existed."
"What?!" Tae protested. "You ditched me first!"
"You just forgot you had a brother?" You raised an eyebrow. "Your baby's blood-related uncle?"
"Yep." He didn't even sound ashamed.
You nodded, "Yeah, that adds up."
Tae was pretty much like Baby, just a tad bit more mature which you found ironic but didn't question. You did fall in love with the menace, after all, and you wouldn't change him for anything.
Aera took one look at him and got excited, squealing and kicking her little legs.
"No, Aera, that's not dada!" Baby cried, about to steal her right out of Tae's arms. Then he hissed at his own brother, and tried to explain the differences between them to his infant daughter. "See? He's a lot uglier than I am! EW!"
"Hey!" Tae looked offended.
(R/Name/2) laughed.
You sighed.
(R/Name/2) didn't join Huntrix, but she did help with bringing Aera to shows and babysitting her when you and Baby were performing. Baby reluctantly agreed to let his brother manage the Saja Boys, but stood firm on not listening to him for unreasonable demands.
"What counts as unreasonable demands?" Tae blinked.
"Anything that comes from you," Baby replied.

"Who's the cutest little girl in the world?"
Three demon boys stood at the entrance to the kitchen, watching Romance coo at Aera with the biggest smile on his face. Jealousy bubbled within them, except maybe for Mystery who didn't really care that Aera liked Romance. He just worried she thought he was too scary.
It wasn't that Romance was talking so sweetly to her. It was the way she reacted, babbling back at him like she was talking to him.
That and she was so calm and quiet around him. He would just hum to her and she'd calm down and stare up at him with her big blue eyes.
It was then that each of them came up with a plan to become Aera's new favourite uncle.
The next day, you walked into the lounge to see Abby reading a story to Aera, but adding his own special details to make it scarier and sound effects that made your daughter giggle adorably.
"And then the dragon opened it's mouth to blow fire," he mimicked the sound of fire, or what he thought was the sound of fire, making Aera laugh. "But then the demon opened his mouth wider and swallowed the dragon whole."
You opened your mouth to say something, but when Aera squealed and kicked her little feet excitedly, you chose not to. As long as she enjoyed it, it didn't have to make sense.
Later that day, after you'd fed Aera, Jinu came out of nowhere and -very gently - swiped her from your arms, offering to burp her. He also sang her a very harmonious version of 'rock-a-bye baby', and you had to bite your lip to keep from laughing.
Aera seemed to like it though, if her little arms waving around and little giggle were anything to go by.
By the time you saw Aera with Mystery you were starting to wonder what was going on. The purple-haired demon was playing a very interesting game of peek-a-boo, in which he was just lifting his hair to show her his face.
Making some weird sound in the process, instead of saying 'peek-a-boo'.
But again, as long as Aera liked it.
The next day brought stranger events.
Abby was now using Aera as a dumbbell, which prompted Baby to almost attack him. The thing that stopped him was how much Aera was enjoying it, because the movement was making her giggle.
"She thinks it's a game," you observed, laughing softly.
She then bit Abby's bicep when she'd had enough.
"Which she is now tired of, apparently."
Romance swooped in to take her, much to the rest of the boys' chagrin. The pink-haired demon took her to his room and styled her hair with cute little bows and clips. He even let her throw glitter at him, which made her laugh so hard she fell onto her back on his bed.
"That's not fair!" Abby protested. "He's cheating!"
"I didn't know taking care of our baby was a competition," you crossed your arms, eyeing Abby and Jinu who were glaring at Romance.
"He's her favourite uncle!" Abby complained. "And it's not fair because we're just as fun!"
"She loves all of you!" You protested.
"No, she likes Romance more," Baby confirmed, making Abby cry.
Within the next hour, Jinu had somehow stolen your daughter from Romance, who was huffing about everyone being jealous of his natural charm and charisma.
The black-haired demon was now sitting on the couch with Aera on his lap, showing her a kid's show on his phone since the TV was still too far for her.
You didn't have the heart to tell him that all she was interested in were the colours, especially since he was explaining the show to her in great detail.
Baby saw this an opportunity to sow the seeds of chaos within the group, like the little gremlin he was.
He told Abby that Aera liked Jinu more than him because Jinu sang to her. That prompted Abby to start singing his part of 'Your Idol' to Aera, earning a face-palm from you.
Then he told Jinu that Aera liked Mystery because he was calmer and talked less, so Jinu at one point just sat across from Aera and stared at her. She stared back, sucking on her tiny fingers.
And finally, he told Mystery that Aera liked Abby more because he was louder and more physically affectionate. Later that day you caught Mystery lying on the couch with Aera on his chest, gently patting her back as he spoke softly to her.
"She likes me the best now," Abby puffed out his chest proudly one afternoon, bouncing Aera on his thigh as he sat on the couch. She was laughing, her big eyes bright with amusement.
"No, I'm still her favourite uncle!" Romance called from the kitchen, while he was getting her some soft baby food.
You could only watch as Jinu crept up behind Romance, frightened him and then swiped the baby food from his hands. You covered your mouth to hide your laughter as the pink-haired demon chased his leader around until Rumi grabbed them both by the ear and forced them to a stop.
"You guys are ridiculous," she rolled her eyes, then took the food and scooped Aera up into her arms. Then started feeding her in front of all the demons, whose jaws dropped.
"Now we're competing with the girls?" Abby complained.
"It's not a competition!" Zoey protested.
"Yeah, because she likes us better," Mira smirked.
Jinu, Romance and Abby crashed out. Mystery shrugged, like he'd already expected that.
Later that night, you lay in bed with Baby and Aera as he let her play with his finger. Or at least it started that way...now she was chewing on his hair and he was smiling like it was the cutest thing in the world. Which it was.
"We all know who her favourite person is," he stated proudly.
You sat up, raised an eyebrow, and crossed your arms, "Excuse me?"
Baby's eyes widened.

summary - as much as you want to kill Celine yourself, you leave that to Rumi, who has even more reason to do so
warnings - little angsty, violence, mentions of blood, DEATH
part one • part two • part three • part four • part five • part six • part seven •
"What?"
Rumi's voice came out barely above a whisper, laced with shock, horror and a silent fury that was about to be unleashed. Her eyes showed the same emotions, though that rage burned brighter than anything else.
She was giving Celine a chance to tell her that was a lie.
Celine did not take that chance, "I killed your father, Rumi. Someone had to; he was ruining everything."
Rumi's nostrils flared. Her sword appeared in her hand a moment later, her pupils so dilated that it almost seemed like she had none. Her body trembled with the kind of anger that was explosive.
She screamed and charged at your former mentor.
Celine's eyes widened - clearly not expecting that. But she managed to dodge, just barely moving out of the way of Rumi's fury-driven strikes. She was faster than Celine anticipated, though, because at one point she landed a hit on the older woman's arm, leaving a cut that started bleeding.
"You had no right!" Rumi screamed as she lunged forward again and struck relentlessly, not once letting up.
Celine kept backing away, lifting her own weapons to retaliate but that was ineffective because Rumi knocked both of them out of her hands in two attempts.
"Who are you to decide who gets to live and who gets to die?!"
Your former mentor couldn't get a word out, stumbling backwards with wide eyes at how unhinged Rumi looked in that moment. Which, you thought, was completely valid. Celine turned to you, Zoey and Mira for help, but was met with even colder looks.
"You dug your own grave," you spat, "Now die in it."
With a lot more force than necessary, you shoved the older women forward. Back towards the raging half-demon with murder in her eyes.
The boys stood frozen, eyes wide with shock, confusion, horror. They had not seen this side of any of you before, and they didn't know how to react. Except for Baby, he was cheering Rumi on - mostly with violent suggestions on what to do to Celine.
Celine eventually managed to get up and strike Rumi back, so you stepped in to help and shot an arrow into her shoulder. Her cry of pain was nothing short of satisfactory, and you aimed another one only for her to knock it out of the air with one of her blades that she'd picked up.
That gave Rumi the chance to swing at her and slice a long gash across her back, which immediately oozed blood. Celine screamed and fell to her knees, blood soaking through the back of her shirt. You took that opportunity to knee her in the jaw, sending her crashing to the ground on her side.
"And then you had the nerve to try and kill (Name)'s baby!" Rumi wasn't done, kicking her while she was on the ground. "A baby! One like me! So your love was a lie? You would have killed me if you hadn't promised my mother to take care of me?" She kicked her again, harder.
Celine rose to her feet, her hunter's strength the only thing enabling her to do so. The back of her shirt was dark with blood, blood dripped from the cut on her arm and her mouth, but still she gazed at Rumi with pure hatred. Finally lowering the mask she'd had up since Rumi's birth.
"Demons should never have existed!" She spat blood onto the ground. "Your existence," she pointed at Rumi, "And your baby's existence," she pointed at you, "are crimes."
"You don't get to decide what's a crime or not!" You snapped, pulling out your dagger and charging her. You'd had enough of her denouncing demons and claiming that their lives are worth less than human lives. "If anything, you've proven that humans are worse than demons!"
She dodged your first strike, but you were just as angry as Rumi so your next one came quicker, your blade slicing her cheek. Then you turned around and kicked her in the stomach, right into Rumi's range.
The purple-haired singer took her turn to launch multiple attacks on Celine. And that how the fight went down - you attack and then push her to Rumi, then Rumi attacks and pushes her back to you. It was like a game of very violent tennis, with Celine as the tennis ball.
The others watched as the two of you hurt your former mentor in every way you could think of, driven by your fury and need to avenger Rumi's father and teach her a lesson for trying to take your baby.
Baby had gone to get Aera, and was now cradling her in his arms protectively, holding onto her tightly so no one could take her away again. Though he didn't cease his brutal recommendations.
In a desperate last attempt, Celine threw one of her blades at Baby and Aera, just as you elbowed her in the face, breaking her nose. Your eyes widened and you surged forward, attempting to grab it even though you knew Baby could just teleport away.
However, before Baby could, someone beat you both to it.
You stopped dead as you stared at another familiar face, while she knocked Celine's weapon off-target.
"I'll admit, I never thought I'd see the day where hunters fought each other," (R/Name/2) shouldered her glowing double-edged axe.
Your eyes widened, "How-? When-?"
"No time," she just grinned, "Shouldn't you finish your business first?"
"Right..."
You turned back to Celine, still in shock. Though you had a strong feeling that this time, you wouldn't have an issue with betrayal. So you rejoined Rumi, both of you hitting and slicing and stabbing in sync. One dodged, the other struck.
Eventually, you wore Celine down completely, and she lay bleeding and exhausted on the ground with you and Rumi looming over her.
"Any last words?" Rumi hissed, raising her sword.
Celine just looked up at you both in disappointment, "I thought I taught you all better than this."
Rumi's sword came down, and your former mentor was silenced. Everything and everyone around you went quiet as well, this moment very significant in yours and the other girls' lives.
For a while, no one moved.
Then Jinu approached Rumi, wrapping his arms around her slowly. Baby handed Aera to Romance, and then came to you, shoving you into his sweater like he usually did when he was trying to comfort you. You ended up smiling into the fabric, because this usually made you laugh.
"You okay?" He murmured into your ear. "She deserved, it but..."
"Yeah, I'm okay," you mumbled into his neck. "She did deserve it. And I would do it again. She came after my baby, and now we find out she killed Rumi's dad..."
Then you remembered you had something else to deal with.
"(R/Name/2)!" You gasped, pulling away from Baby to look at her. "You're here? How? When? Why?"
"Demons aren't so bad," she stepped forward when all eyes landed on her. "Someone helped me see that."
You all looked at Romance.
"It wasn't me this time!" He protested, looking offended at the accusation.
"No, not him," (R/Name/2) laughed. "He's not my type."
"Anyway," (R/Name/2) diverted attention away from the sulking pink-haired demon. "I met one that is not in your group, don't worry, and turns out they really aren't that bad. I heard about what happened with Axel and (R/Name) and I would have come sooner but I assumed you wouldn't trust me after...that. So my entrance would have to be something dramatic to get you to trust me."
"Saving Baby and Aera will do it," you agreed, "Thanks. I'm just...it's been years. You're not resentful like she was?"
(R/Name/2) shrugged, "It's not that deep. You moved on, we all did. If she didn't, that's because she had issues. But clearly not as many issues as your mentor...it's really rough over here."
"Yeah..." You sighed. "It's been a crazy year. If it wasn't a demon king, it was an ancient demon that the demon king was afraid of, and if it wasn't that it was a former hunter friend and her crazy ex."
"I should have come sooner," she looked at your group. "Though I see you have a tight-knit group already, ready to protect at a moment's notice."
"Yeah, they're great," you smiled fondly. "A little chaotic, but that's to be expected."
She laughed, then looked at Aera, "And your baby is so cute!"
"Thank you!" You smiled, and Baby begrudgingly let Romance hand Aera to (R/Name/2) - but not after he had Mystery sniff her for "weird vibes".
Never a dull day with the Saja Boys.
"Anyway," you suddenly realised, "If your demon isn't Romance, then who..?"
"Oh, he's shy," she smiled up at you, then turned to the trees surrounding Celine's house. "Tae, it's fine. You can come out now, they're friendly!"
A boy stepped out from behind a tree, but quickly shifted back into demon form when he saw your boys in demon form.
Baby fainted.
You did a double take, because what?
What is it about this demon that could possibly make Baby of all demons faint?
summary - your baby gets kidnapped, and it sets you on a warpath
warnings - violence, a little angsty, mentions of blood, DEATH (not Celine yet because she has a bombshell to drop)
a/n - going to give you even more reason to hate Celine 🙂

The safehouse was not as safe as you initially assumed.
Shortly after you settled in, keeping Aera close to you, you started hearing noises. Strange sounds coming from outside, sounds you had trouble placing or describing.
"Baby," you whispered, your eyes settling on the door. "There's something or someone outside."
His ears perked up, his own eyes flicking towards the locked door. He tensed after a few seconds of listening, quietly telling you to stay put while he inched towards the door, gesturing for Abby and Jinu to follow.
They were stopped by Mira's weapon.
"Don't," she told them, eyeing the door like it was suspect in a crime investigation. "Those sounds are obviously to lure us out."
"She's right," you agreed.
And then you heard it.
A faint buzzing, coming from underneath the floor.
"What is that?" Zoey asked, looking down.
You listened closely, trying to discern what was making that noise because you recognised it. You knew that sound, but somehow you couldn't think of the word right now.
When it finally came to you, it was too late.
Your eyes widened, "Everyone, out!"
The floor exploded, chunks flying everywhere as a drill emerged from the ground. All of you hit the ground, you maneuvering your own body so you took the brunt of the impact while Aera was held securely against your chest.
Multiple groans filled the room, dust clouding your vision. In the haze, you saw a figure coming towards you and tried to sit up, but before you could a metal foot shoved you back down.
Your baby was ripped from your arms, and the figure was gone as quickly as they had come.
You shot up, ignoring the pain in your shoulder as you frantically searched the room. Everyone was down, Abby trapped under the drill, Jinu pinned to the wall by his shirt with the tip of the drill, and the other three only sitting up now.
"No, no, NO!" You screamed, pulling your hair. "Where is she?!"
You were hysterical, anxiety and panic hitting you full force and sending you into a frenzy. You didn't know whether to cry, scream some more, punch the wall, or all three. Your friends gathered around you, trying to offer comfort.
Baby saw red.
He threw things, yelling the most vulgar, obscene curse words in existence. No one stopped him.
Finally, Mira spoke, "I think I know a guy who can help us track down our stalker."
Romance's head whipped around, "You know other guys?"
"Not the time, Ro," she sighed, before turning to Baby. "Let's go find this kidnapper."
As they left, Zoey turned to the rest of our group, "Should that really be a job for our two most violent group members?" But she quickly switched her attention back to you when she saw your tears.
You hastily wiped them away, getting to your feet, "They can handle that. We're going to pay Celine a visit."
The boys took you girls there, but you didn't give anyone a chance to come up with a plan as you stormed up to her door, kicked it open, and barged in.
She was sitting and reading a book like she hadn't just committed a sickening crime. Then she, dramatically slowly, looked up at you.
"Oh, (Name)," she had the nerve to smile, "Did you sort out your little assassin problem?"
"You would know," you clenched your fists, approaching her.
She rose to her feet, her smile faltering, "What are you trying to say?"
"Where's my daughter?!" You raised your voice, nails digging into the palms of your hands. "And don't play innocent! I know you hired that assassin!" Your voice took on a dangerous edge.
Her smile dropped completely, replaced by that familiar look of disappointment you and the girls had seen constantly under her training, "I did what I had to."
"Trying to kill a baby?!" You yelled. "Since when do hunters stand for murder?"
"It's not murder if it's a demon," she spat, resentment in her voice.
"She is half-human too!"
"Which is arguably even more dangerous!" Celine raised her voice too. "You girls are such disappointments. Letting some stupid demon boys fool you with pretty human disguises and falling for their tricks!"
You took a threatening step forward, "Don't talk about them like that. What about Rumi?" You asked, voice trembling. "Rumi turned out fine. Better than that, actually."
"Rumi killed her mother!" Celine snapped, shouting those hateful words just as the others came in behind you. You felt Rumi stiffen beside you, her eyes widening.
"I-I didn't-"
"She couldn't have," you argued, "I gave birth to a half-demon, half-human baby and I'm still here. So what really happened, Celine?"
But before she could respond, Baby appeared with Mira and shoved the assassin onto his knees before Celine, glaring up at her with the deepest hatred and most violent fury shining in his eyes, "Give me back my child, hunter, or I will kill your pawn right here."
Celine's eyes widened a fraction, but she remained calm, "Go ahead. He was exactly what you said - just a pawn."
Baby didn't hesitate, but didn't give the assassin the dignity of looking at him while he did it. He kept his eyes on Celine, claws slashing across the assassin's face. He crumpled, face-first onto the floor, blood pooling around his head.
"You married this?" Celine scoffed. "A soulless creature who kills at will?"
"My husband wants his baby back," you stepped forward. "I suggest you give her to him." At that moment, Aera started crying in one of the other rooms and your body went straight into protective mode, as Baby surged forward.
Only to slam into an invisible wall, recoiling as his skin burned.
You looked at the floor, but didn't see salt. How...
"A nice little trick, right?" Celine smiled coldly, "Learnt it from your friend (R/Name), in return for telling her where you were."
Your nostrils flared, and you charged forward, only for Celine to block you. Rumi, Mira and Zoey tried as well, but Celine stopped them too with the same skill and experience she used to use when training you.
You never could beat her.
Years of experience allowed her to dodge every one of Abby's, Baby's, Mystery's and Romance's attacks, but she wasn't prepared for Jinu - the oldest demon present.
He appeared behind her and kicked out her legs, then appeared in front of her and grabbed her by the throat, before looking at you, "Go."
You nodded and took off, only to slam into a solid wall of metal.
Celine choked out a laugh behind you, "You didn't seriously think I wouldn't have added protection? You girls never learn."
This robot was bigger than the others, towering a good few feet over you. It took up the entire hallway, looking down at you with glowing red eyes that sent shivers down your spine.
You ducked the first strike but did not expect it's other arm to come flying at you so fast after the first. It smacked you in the face, causing you to stumble backwards, but thankfully only gave you a bleeding nose.
Which pissed you off.
You and the girls drew your weapons, each of you ducking and swiping at the robot in different spots. It couldn't keep up with all of you so some of your hits did land, but then it'd smack whoever hit it away.
Behind you, the five demon boys ganged up on Celine, but again because of her experience and knowledge only Jinu gave her any trouble.
But your baby was at stake, so you were going to kill this thing.
It was like a switch flipped in your mind - all reason, rationality and morality flying out the window. In its place, a frightening brutality that you didn't think you were capable of. You just saw red, and attacked the robot like a rabid dog. Swipe after swipe after swipe. Stab after stab after stab. Your hits never ended, pure rage driving you to jump and impale both its eyes with two arrows, shoving them in so deep they stuck out the back of its head.
That gave the other girls an opening to slice it in half, and then into quarters. Your chest was heaving as you watched it fall apart. Before you could run into the room she was keeping Aera in, though, you heard her say something that chilled you to the bone.
"Your mother was weak too, Rumi! Too weak to do what was right."
You all turned to look at her.
"What?" Rumi snapped.
"You wanted to know the truth?" She knocked Romance aside with her weapon. "She couldn't kill your father, she didn't, not like she was supposed to."
"So I did it for her."
