I am now the only person who wears a mask at my work despite it not being mandatory, and I'm pretty sure some customers don't interact with me because of it. Which no loss there. The few customers that wear one will usually ask me for help and are so nice ;-; Not to long ago, one person tried being snide to about me wearing one. Looked them in the eye as I told them my mum has a poor immune system, which shut them up for the rest of the transaction.

I consider that a huge pro, having the ability to repel customers who are Like That by default.

Like yes, please take your entitled self elsewhere for help, coz I'll do nothing but judge you behind my mask

Shouldn't have to drop the immunocompromised shoe, but there is a level of satisfaction reminding those people that they're an active threat to the safety of others.

#politely telling them that their choice threatens the safety of others without saying that directly #there are so many people who need reminded they are one or two strangers away from indirectly causing injury or death to someone #because they can't be bothered to put in minimal effort

I have, in this 3rd year of masks, come to appreciate the new stage of pandemic denial in which I can look ignorant customers dead in the eyes and politely inform them it is my personal choice to wear a mask though my employer no longer requires it. And they can’t say a damn thing without publicly displaying their hypocrisy. The frustrated silence delights me to no end.

#volunteered for an early shift of coming in for a few hours and helping reorganize dog food with the boss #she was gonna come in early. alone. and do that #and like look its one thing to constantly be scheduled horribly by someone i can't stand #and another to make a choice to come in when it isn't necessary #for various reasons #unlike the schedule boss this boss is someone i care about #and she's been busting her ass doing all these extra hours she doesn't get paid anything extra for #schedule boss said I couldn't do dog food (for no good reason she legitimately couldn't give me a valid reason)#So I had that point to prove #taking a little stress off the good boss' shoulders at the same time #and since it was early and a short shift we were out before the store opened #in broad daylight which got me to finally make a shopping trip i'd been delaying #good boss also brought me breakfast for coming in with her #it was nice I haven't felt so nice about work in a long time #I think if it were possible I'd turn moving bags of dog food into like... my morning exercise routine or something #oh and I guess I also get paid for more hours so that's just a given plus #and NO CUSTOMER SERVICE to drop everything and scuttle off for #then there were girl scouts in front of the grocery store #and I found a single peppermint rumchata probably left over from christmas clearance in the booze isle #it's like hot chocolate and cookies but booze and mint flavored #if our next stock manager bails on us like the last new hire maybe I'll just apply for the position myself #I like organizing stuff

Dreamed that my friends and I went to some kind of roadside tourist trap that advertised a "spider geyser." I really wanted to see it erupt but they didn't have times posted or anything and my friends were getting bored and wanted to see the other geysers that were erupting more frequently. Eventually they just left me there and I was anxious about deciding whether to catch up with them or wait for the spider geyser. I woke up feeling mad that I didn't get to see it go off.

Is... it a common practice to literally bribe your coworkers with cash to switch shifts with you? Am I missing something?

Or do I just seem like the sort of person who needs bribing?

#is this a slightly younger age group thing that I'm just not getting #also I'm getting a lot of shift switch requests in the last few weeks too #but you know what if it means I don't have to try and cram five hours of work into one or two #I don't think they realize how quickly I'll throw myself at a simpler shift #I'm done hopping on sinking ships my guys #I need a little more structure #than 'go do this thing nobody will take the time to do'#I will literally stock restock and organize the whole damn store if it means avoiding these shit shifts #and SHE won't schedule a decent training shift for any of the new girls so I'm the noodle she keeps throwing at the wall #I know a lot of things but training someone to care for over a dozen different species in less than two hours isn't one of them
