larissa weems, you gorgeous gorgeous woman 🤍
I’ve never been into Braime so I’m aware of how ignorant this question is, but how is Jaime the bear?
its more imagery if anything, brienne is the maid(rescued from a literal bear at harrenhal) and jaime is the bear(a knight) in the metaphor its also interchangeable (theyre both blonde, both have maiden imagery, theyre both metaphorical beasts)
it is also so entangled in the beauty and the beast reconstruction they have going on. jaime is the beauty who is the beast, and brienne is the beast who is the beauty. jaime is the maiden who is the bear, and brienne is the bear who is the maiden. it is about inner vs outer beauty & fairness and inner vs outer ugliness & beasthood. the beast is beauty’s captor, beauty transforms the beast. jaime’s actions to save brienne (maiden) leading to the death of the bear (beast) also feels like a strong metaphor regarding jaime’s development and transformation here lol. jb vacillates and disrupts dichotomies (knight - lady, beast - beauty, bear - maiden) constantly. they are both in different ways, sometimes at the same time. thats the fabric of the relationship. but actually it’s about jaime eating her out in winds
The bear and the maiden also start out at odds, based on preconceived notions, just like Jaime and Brienne. They are both the maiden initially seeing the other as the bear who is beneath their ideals, and can't imagine ever seeing each other any differently.
Jaime is beautiful and judges Brienne as a beast because of her looks and because she's not what he expects of a knight. Brienne is honorable and judges Jaime as a beast because of his reputation and not what she expects of a knight.
In the end, the bear is not at all what the maiden expected. She begins to see the bear differently, gains affection for him, and gladly goes with him.
This mirrors how Jaime and Brienne's preconceived notions about each other were also broken. They don't see the undesirable bear in each other anymore. Brienne isn't beautiful, but she's the truest knight Jaime's ever known. Jaime has a poor reputation, but his motivation for killing Aerys, saving Brienne, and his attempt to keep his vows to Catelyn make him more honorable than Brienne had thought. They get to a point where they are both willing to defend and follow their bear wherever.
This woman HATES to be complimented. I love her so much 🥺🥺
