This is entirely inspired by me remembering facts about my fav drag queens because I have mental illness, but what if Ed's mom doesn't know he's a pirate. That's not me making any assertion on how she'd feel about it, but what if they're still fucking writing letters to each other and they're still in touch and she's like 70 and she just thinks he's a normal sailor and he never managed to find a good time to bring up what he actually does for work and now its like "I've kept this on the dl for way too long I cant tell her now"

I think this would be especially funny considering that the pictures of Blackbeard in universe do look like Ed

Someone who can be the anchor you need.” Someone like… Israel, for example, who worships the ground his captain walks on, and is disciplined and brave and strong. Not… whatever he is.

But when Ed lifts his chin, Stede doesn’t pull away. Instead, he leans into it, turning his head to press a kiss to the inside of Ed’s wrist.

“I don’t want you to get hurt anymore. I want you safe. I want you loved and wanted. I want you happy. Because you deserve that.”

" You've done a lot more than that. A lot better than that. "   Yeah, Stede abandoning him on that dock had hurt like a bitch, but post-explanation of what the fuck had happened and Ed honestly gets it. Big fucking misunderstanding. Something to move forward from.

The kiss to his wrist makes his heart flutter. Ed wonders if Stede can feel the way his pulse is beating against his lips.

" Don't you get it, mate? You're the reason I'm happy, "   Ed says, leaning forward, his thumb stroking over Stede's cheek.   " Before you showed up, I was . . . shit, man. It - it wasn't good, "   Ed says. Yeah, Stede doesn't really need to know the gritty details of all of that. . . . Or maybe he does. To understand how much he did to help. Ed reaches his other hand out to hold Stede's face gently in both hands.

" I wanted to die, okay? I was so fucking tired of it all that I was seriously fucking considering it man. Just bring the whole Blackbeard legend to an end with a nice bang, end it all. And then you showed up and - and you made life worth living, Stede. You made it all fucking worth it. You do make me happy. I would've died without you. I did die without you. I'm not - you don't have to fucking stay, Stede, but . . . "   But I want you to. But you'll take my entire fucking heart with you if you go.   " You make me happy, okay? The only thing you've ever done to hurt me was not take me with you. "

 For all his talk of being emotionally available and discussing issues as a group, Stede actually talks about his own struggles very little, Ed has found. He probably should . . . echo back what Stede says a few times. Make sure he feels safe to talk about his feelings, too.

" I don't want someone else, "   Ed says. Unless Stede wants someone else? It doesn’t sound like that, though. It sounds like some kind of self-confidence issue, going on? Or maybe Stede just thinks he needs to calm the fuck down, who knows. Maybe he thinks they literally ought to get a heavier anchor.

" Stede, mate, "   Ed says, reaching out to gently take hold of Stede's chin and turn his gaze and meet his eyes.   " I like you. I like that you're fucking crazy. I like the adventure. I like the fun. And, mate, to be perfectly honest, I think I'd like you if you wanted to sit inside all day and knit fucking . . . cat sweaters. It's not about all that, it's just . . . you. I want you. There's nothing else to it. "

episode 4: is waiting for stede to wake up like a dog waiting to be walked but he only speaks in hushed whispers, lets stede sleep until stede wakes up on his own

episode 8: even tho he’s drunk (at like 9am in the morning. king) and blowing things up with jack, when stede shows up ed’s head whips around and he asks in a worried hush, “hey! shit, did we wake you?”

episode 9: gives his pillow to stede and tells him to get some rest while he goes and mugs a guy for a dinghy. never mind that if things went according to plan, stede would have to get up again in two hours, this is ed’s new boyfriend and by god he deserves some shut-eye
