I like the school setting for wind breaker but it’s very underutilized, neglected children like haruka usually end up relying heavily on school for structure, rules & support when parents fail. And it’s nice to watch haruka realize that his classmates can be his support system, that’s it’s safe to relax a bit, but it’s a shame that the school setting is so incredibly bare like it doesn’t exist beyond the premises of the actual building, not a single adult working at this school has ever been shown it’s getting funnier with each episode lmaoo

I understand this disinterest in committing more to a school setting, but in most cases, the story would benefit from it, intergenerational dynamics can do so much esp for stories about difficult children like haruka, I guess writing dynamics within one peer group is easier than going for more a heterogenous cast, but a character like haruka would benefit from building safe, healthy relationships with one or two trusted adults

and before anyone says “it’s just shonen”, intergenerational ensembles are pretty common even in media for kids & teens, it’s part of what makes them so didactic like we need some real mentors from time to time imo

maybe I’ll pick up the manga maybe there will be some interesting adults guiding haruka through his issues let’s see
