Tips for New Yearās Resolutionists
1. Be clear with your goals.Ā
Instead of sayingĀ āI want to lose weight,ā say something likeĀ āI want to lose 20 lbsā orĀ āI want to eat X calories a dayā orĀ āI want to work out X times a day.ā
2. Be realistic
Youāre not going to lose 20 lbs in a day. Youāre not going to go from not lifting at all to deadlifting 500 lbs in a month. Be realistic about your schedule too. Youāre not going to work out for 8 hours a day.Ā
3. If you want to change your diet make small, doable changes.
If you starve yourself, youāll gain it all back. You canāt flip your diet upside down and deprive yourself of all your favourite foods and expect yourself to stick with it.Ā
4. Have a plan
Itās all fine and dandy to say you have all these goals, but it means nothing if you donāt have a plan. You want to lose weight? Great. How are you going to do it? Quitting smoking is great. Have a plan to do it, and have a plan for your setbacks. Which brings me to my next point
5. Expect setbacks
Theyāre going to happen. You need to expect them and plan for them. What are you going to do when they happen? If you expect them, they wonāt be a surprise that completely derails you. Any time youāre improving yourself there will be setbacks and itās okay! Itās part of the process.
6. Love yourself
Making changes is hard. Itās okay to go easy on yourself sometimes. The point of making changes is to better and itās a process. It wonāt always be perfect, but youāre going in the right direction and Iām already so proud of you.
