I’m still on hiatus from tumblr (except for lurking for a couple of minutes once a week or so for updates on new shows), but I’ve been so well-fed in BL-land lately that I need to shout about it for a minute or two (or 30) before I return to my hiatus.
Let’s start with the shows that have finished lately:
This hit so many right spots for me:
A semi-socially awkward character who just wants to hide
A straightforward character who acts as soon as he realizes he likes the other person
The chemistry between all the main characters
The great performance from Choi Jae Hyeok (playing Kwon Jeong U), especially his microexpressions *chef’s kiss*
A lot of walking around the city at night (that always gives me nostalgia)
A kind of sensual high-heat that Korea is especially great at (when they actually do it)
This show is bad. But, for me, it’s bad in a very entertaining way that just works, because I was thoroughly entertained for 98% of this show.
It’s horny from start to finish (sex is the plot, and the plot is sex), and for a horny mfer like me, that’s gold!
It includes a sexually experienced, but emotionally constipated, character teaching his sexually inexperienced, but feisty, younger frenemy about sex
It's high-heat freakiness in a way I love
The chemistry between especially Boat (Sorn) and Oat (Jun) was great (in and outside of the show)
The side couples were great as well (though I wish I’d gotten more of the girls because, my goddess, they were stunning)
The lighting! (I’m a slut for great lighting, especially neon and mood lighting)
This was also a 9/10 for me (though, a very different one from the 9/10 above), because–what can I say–I love bad shit that keeps me entertained.
The Bangkok Boy (Thailand & Korea)
This was a collaboration between Thailand and Korea, and it was amazing!
Violent (the action scenes were really good)
Sure, the romance was in the backseat for a big portion of the show (which is fine by me), but when it showed up, it was great
The chemistry between Tape (Sun) and Cho Si Hyeon (Peace) was amazing, so much so that I really, really, really need a second season of this
Every actor did an amazing job
For some reason, I can’t stop thinking about Aon’s (Aim’s) big eyes and crazy gaze
Or about Daddy A Passin Reungwoot (playing Sun’s dad), because that man is fine!
This was also a 9/10 for me.
Now, let’s look at current shows about to end:
Pit Babe Season 2 (Thailand)
I don’t care that the plot is stretched too thin by all the different couples and all the plot threads that we probably won’t get resolved. But I have Pavel, Garfield, and Daddy S Vorarit Vaijairanai on my screen again, so I don’t really care. Yes, I’m that shallow.
Also, I can’t wait for the showdown in the last episode this week, and hoping that Tony will stay dead forever this time. I need more blood on his body because he’s even hotter that way, lol. (I mean, did you see him coughing up blood and it spraying his face? He should die that way. Send Daddy Dearest to hell with his face splattered with his own blood! Please, and thank you.)
This might be getting a 9/10 from me if they stick the landing.
There are only two episodes left of the show, which is sad because it has been great on many levels. I absolutely love Peterpancakes and Pond. I love them separately, and I love them together. Peterpan is one of those very few actors that I might watch lakorns for just because he’s that great (I haven’t yet, though, give me recs). And Pond has once again shown what he can do with a script that’s actually good. Also, a shoutout to Alexander Ty Manoiu (Veynai), who, to me, is matching Peperpan and Pond’s acting levels (which is not an easy thing to do).
As I said, we have two episodes left, so there’s still time to explain the whole reset thing. If they go with the reset just being a coincidence or a one-time thing, I might be a little disappointed (depending on how they handle it, of course). I really, really, really want to give this a 9/10, because it’s been great so far (and I very, very rarely give out 10/10), but I will just have to wait and see how this show ends.
And, lastly, the shows that have just started but look very promising:
Okay, we already have 14 episodes of this, so it hasn’t just started, but there are 10 more to come (for the love of goddess, please!).
This show has taken me by surprise, and I truly mean that. I didn’t watch it from the beginning because of where it's from and the threat of censorship. I think 6-ish episodes were already out when I started it. And that was because people on tumblr referred to it as the “snake show”.
(The reason that’s important to me is because I was born at the end of a year of the snake, we’re currently in a year of the snake, I’ve kept seeing snakes everywhere this year, and it’s been a huge year of transformation (one of it’s symbolisms) for me and will continue to be in the coming months. It felt like a sign for me to watch it, so, of course, I did.)
And how it hooked me! Everything about this show is amazing, interesting, keeps me glued to the screen, and makes me long for Mondays and Tuesdays all week long.
Everything from the pretty snakes to the besties (Wu Suo Wei & Jiang Xiao Shuai) and worsties (Chi Cheng & Guo Cheng Yu) to the scheming and the yearning and the kisses and horniness and the moments when I shout for poly at my screen to the moments when I laugh out loud and the anticipation of the pain that’s coming to Wang Shuo’s earpieces (which, for some reason, did something wicked to me in the 14th episode) to the chemistry between all these characters and so, so, so, so, so much more.
I just love this show so much! And I need it as desperately as I need air. So, please, for everything holy, give me the whole show! Let this be the snake that slithers, unnoticed, through the cracks and under the radar. Thank you in advance.
And speaking of shows I need to slip through the cracks, this is another one from China that I desperately need in full.
I knew nothing about omegaverse before I watched the first season of Pit Babe (not that that show made me any the wiser). It only took this show 10-ish minutes to explain the whole ABO thing to set off the rest of the show, and it was done in a clever and relatable way (considering the height of the pandemic we were in a couple of years ago).
And. I. Am. So! Fucking! Hooked!
Not necessarily just for the whole omegaverse thing, but for a combination of things.
This show includes several characters I love already, even though we only have 4 episodes at this point.
The schemer and master manipulator, Hua Yong, who feigns innocence but is probably ice-cold when it comes to his goals and plans (and I’ve got to love a fellow ice queen, lol)
The horny and jealous Sheng Shao You, who is already clearly smitten by Hua Yong, but seems to have no idea what he’s getting himself into
The quiet Gao Tu, who is hiding his true identity and his love for the person he’s been pining for for years, because of childhood trauma and because his true identity is repulsive to the one he loves
And the harsh Shen Wen Lang, who will (hopefully) regret everything he has ever said and done to Gao Tu when he realizes the truth and his own feelings
Also, if they go all the way with mpreg (which I think they will, according to the trailer, at least), this will probably be the first time I’ve ever been invested in anyone getting pregnant in a show/movie. (I’m usually pretty neutral about things like marriage and kids.)
Anyway, other than that, the show is also visually pleasing, which always gets an extra point in my book. The overall production quality is great so far, and I love the CGI for the fragrance they emit (and that the fragrance is colored!). Stunning. 10/10. No notes.
I’m just as hooked on this show as Revenged Love, and I must say I’m very pleasantly surprised by that. Never in a million years did I ever think I would watch an omegaverse show that takes the omegaverse seriously (sorry, Pit Babe, but you don’t count, lol) and be thoroughly hooked on it. But this shit is addictive! And I hope it keeps it up.
We’ve only gotten 2 episodes of this, but Oh. My. Goddess! It’s so piny and horny and sexy that I’m already in love with it.
The scene in the movie theater was lip-bitingly exciting. It was everything. The tension was immaculate. And the release of that tension in the following scene in the restroom was so fucking good (yes, I know, dubcon and all that, don’t come at me, lol).
I’m a little surprised at how fast we got a confession, but that just leads me to believe more angst and confusing feelings are coming (which I’m all here for!).
I’m also loving the rock-paper-sissors thing they’re doing to resolve/decide things and how Jun Xi keeps throwing out scissors against Han Tuo every fucking time and losing to him every fucking time. Like, babe, test a paper once in a while if you want to win against Han Tuo’s rock. (Or does Han Tuo know Jun Xi so well that he’ll win over his paper too?)
This has the potential to be great, and I can’t wait to see more of them.
Well, one last thing, I never thought I would say this, but the Chinese BLs are killing it right now. If it weren’t for them, I’d be having a good summer. But because of them, I’m having a great one!
