Recruited by Oddfellow as part of the 1920ās expedition to the āJungle of Doomā as an expert on the flora and fauna of the region. Or as close to an expert as one can be for the dangerous and mostly unexplored jungle. Somehow manages to make it out alive. Impressing Oddfellow with this feat she is brought into his Dark Carnival and Emporium. Tours around the country with the carnival as an act with reptiles, mostly giant snakes. When Oddfellow starts experimenting with the zodiac she is the first on the slate. Intended to fill the Pisces spot she doesnāt come out quite as he expects or wants. He keeps her as part of the carnival as a sideshow act, but intends to kick her to the curb as a failure once he gets a replacement. Thrown out before the carnival massacre sheās saved from being killed but is embittered by the betrayal.
Searching for anything to use against Oddfellow Estelle stumbles across the body of Jack Schmidt. Still in the process of being revived he is able to communicate, but unable to move. Also wanting revenge he shares the secret to why he is still alive. Unsure of when he will be fully revived he trusts her to make Oddfellowās life hell until he can properly return. She readily agrees to the task, swiping some of his blood so she can join the immortality club. She encounters Oddfellow again in the 40ās. Letting herself be captured so she will be sent to his warehouse. Planning to escape and help release some of this other creations and destroy as many of the artifacts heās collected as possible. Following Oddfellowās trail as closely as possible as he travels across the country doing what she can to foil his plans with not much success.
A lot of people know him as Dr. Grant from Jurassic Park, but Sam Neill has an incredible catalogue of film and television, stretching back to 1975 on the big screen, but he cut his teeth in university productions of Shakespearean dramas.
All this to say, Sam Neill never let himself get pigeonholed as an actor. He was an incredibly versatile actor with a plethora of roles and genres to his name.
And that's not even touching upon his interests outside of acting. He was a passionate vintner (of the Two Paddocks winery) and an outspoken environmentalist who frequently spoke out against political policy that negatively affected indigenous peoples in Australia and New Zealand.
Jurassic Park is an incredible film, and I know many people have fond memories of the original trilogy.
But Sam Neill was more than just Dr. Grant. And I think that should be remembered too.
