Welcome to: Bee quit softball cause her coaches are assholes!
For context, I am a senior, I've been on my high school softball team all 4 years. Technically varsity for 2 of those years but because my coaches like to cheat the system to their advantage, I played exclusively JV games my junior year but still got a varsity patch. I have dealt with nothing but bullshit these past 4 years from the coaching staff, my freshmen year it was very clear they had never had a JV team before, sophomore year was slightly better but varsity players were Very open about looking down on JV players and the coaches did nothing, junior I was told by my head coach I would be a starter on varsity and I played 1 inning our first game and never again after that unless it was for JV (who I never practiced with), and my senior was some how worse.
I quit theater this spring so I could have an enjoyable time playing for softball. I was our starting right fielder cause my coaches finally remembered I was an outfielder, I made good plays, I had a strong bat, got on base often, the works. And then I left for tech week, cause I couldn't bring myself to fully quit theater so I settled with just doing tech crew. I come back and our other main right fielder (WHO IS ALSO IN THEATER AND MISSED MORE PRACTICES THAN I DID CAUSE SHE WAS IN ENSEMBLE) was starting with no explanation from my coaches. The next game was the same. And when I asked them about it, all they said was that they weren't considering theater against us because it's a school activity (a senior last year was benched her senior night because she missed ONE practice for ASB, which she was president of). At this point in our season, senior night was coming up and I had told my coaches in February that I would NOT be starting on the bench my senior night, if they put me on the bench I would leave (because of the situation with the senior last year).
The day before senior night it was suddenly really cold when it had been really hot in the few days before, my body doesn't handle sudden changes in weather well. I texted my coaches that I wasn't feeling well so I was gonna take the day off and be back for senior night, my head coach replied "Okay, we hope you feel better soon" (I'm highlighting this to point out they didn't mention potential impacts to playing time, which, while usually assumed, it's senior night and I had already told them what I would do if I was starting on the bench). The next day, they tell us players the line up and then start announcing. I decided that I was going to wait to leave until I talked to my coaches AFTER the national anthem. But then my head coaches come over and tries to talk to me. We end up arguing cause her only excuse was that there's 8 seniors as if there isn't 9 positions on a softball field. I'm not going to explain the whole argument but I did leave, I took my gifts from senior night and my senior banner and went home.
Then, I'm told by my friend still on the team that players are talking shit about me, that the coaches are being assholes, etc. They went so far as to edit me out of a photo of our team using AI. I'm trying to ignore it, I had promised our left fielder that I would come watch all their games. So I did, I've been showing up for every home game they've had. Supporting my girls cause they are the only reason I was playing anyways.
2 days ago, I made an Instagram post as a goodbye to high school sports. I included cross country, soccer, and softball. I said NOTHING negative or even passive agressive towards my softball coaches. I tagged all 3 sports. Soccer and cross country liked the post. Softball removed the tag and then deleted me off MaxPreps (website used to track player and team stats, schedules, and scores for high school sports) for this season (my career stats are as if this season was included but it's not, which is frustrating cause if I was trying to play college ball that would've fucked up any chance of me getting on my college team (I'm not but if I were)).
I told my parents about this new development and because they have always been my day 1s, they're going to contact my high school's principal about the unprofessional attitudes from the softball coaches. I'm hoping they'll be fired so that we can get new coaches cause they aren't even good coaches and they latch onto good players and ignore everyone else (they don't know how to coach, they just play whoever they think is already good)
