I think people would be less suicidal if they were allowed to talk about being suicidal without risk of being sent to the Torture Dungeon

i guess people don't usually need to manage their fear and shock when a stranger comes up and says they know what train and bus you need and what street you live on when you're half a city away from home because they recognise you for your mobility aid. being visibly disabled is great. no downsides whatsoever. i love having to be polite and sociable to strangers i don't want to talk to and not be rude about the intrusion or batshit insane way they opened the conversation because they know where i fucking live. #disability privilege or whatever
ngl i feel like most fandom etiquette issues could be easily solved if we just stopped allowing minors to participate in online fandoms. i don't care if it's a SFW fandom space either, minors shouldn't be welcome in any fandom and im tired of people pretending otherwise. all fandoms should be 18+.
I strongly disagree. I participated in fandom way before I turned 18.
sure, fandom space, as well as anything that is on the internet, can be 18+ and not suitable for minors (but even then, that does not mean âminors must not engage with these thingsâ â I read smut and watched porn when I was a minor, what matters isnât whether or not they engage with âadult contentsâ, what matters is if they can safely consume/engage with stuff without revealing their personal information online and jeopardizing their own safety). but just like anything else on the internet, there are spaces, including fandom space, that minors can safely enjoy.
also fandom is about fun and having a source of comfort/a temporary getaway from reality when/if things are hard.
minors have just as much rights â to enjoy fandom space and have these fandom space as their source of comfort â as adults do.
itâs extremely selfish to try to gatekeep these to adults only.
being kind and respectful to each other is the fundamental etiquette that applies to everyone, be it minors or adults.
Privileges of being visibly disabled (sarcastic) edition:
People ask you about your medical history at random and sometimes without even a cursory greeting
People target you because they know you (presumably) canât fight back
People treat you as both more or less capable than you actually are (whichever is more ableist)
Infrastructure is not accessible in many ways and even hostile at times (impacting those with blindness, deafness, mobility aid users, and more)
Your rides from apps get canceled due to your disability equipment
People get grossed out by what keeps you alive (ostomies, tubes, ports, etc)
People grabbing and moving you without consent
Being treated like furniture the more you are perceived to be disabled
Feel free to add your thoughts or other brilliant suggestions for this list.
People think they know you because they've seen you (or someone else with a similar looking disability) more than once.
Small children open mouth stare and instead of acting normal, adults teach them to avoid looking at you at all. This doesn't change when they grow up. People will literally walk into you because they're so busy Not Staring at You to remember theres a whole ass person in the way.
(I dont know know how to add bullets)
-cops assuming that visible disability=homeless and coming over to harass you
-People in cars also not seeing you or seeing right through you and then driving right at you
-Complete strangers randomly bursting into tears while asking if your disability can be cured or offering condolences
people taking photos and videos of you in public
people hitting on/threatening/fetishizing you in public, and often get mad if you ignore them or tell them to get lost (if youâre a wheelchair user then you also get the âyou cant run awayâ bullshit)
people staring at you like youâre an exhibit at the zoo
people shouting at you on the streets that youâre a waste of resources
people deliberately blocking your way and getting mad at you for asking them to move
Boss is asleep, cannot stop me from frogposting
First like and this has already found its intended audience
