Max gets hyped the fuck up on caffeine and revisits a beloved game with Chloe. Giggles ensue.
Okay I don’t know how I feel about this one but I had this idea in the shower and I knew if I didn’t write it now it would never get written so. Sorry for any inconsistencies you may see. Okay here we go
(ALSO this fic contains safe for work tickling, if you don’t like that, don’t read please!)
Max Caulfield on multiple cups of coffee was hardly Max at all.
For one, she was silly. Sillier than Chloe Price, which was a level of silly one should be fearful of. That’s why, at one of the pairs regular sleepovers, Chloe began to worry.
They had stayed up late the night prior (or maybe a better way of putting it; late for one of them) which thusly gave way to a zombified Max in the morning, desperate for a caffeine pick-me-up.
By the time Chloe had turned her back she was sure that Max’s mug had been refilled atleast 3 times, and she was still chugging at a pace so fast she was hiccuping.
Chloe knew better than to get between a teenage girl and her coffee. Making the executive decision to mind her own business, she instead rummaged through her CD collection.
Maximilian’s gonna have some serious dancing energy in give or take 30 minutes, Chloe thought. Question is, is it gonna be like a “Party Rock Anthem” energy or a “Still into You” energy? God she gets so mainstream when she’s-
The familiar voice behind her was singsongy and playful.
“What’s up, Maximus Prime?”
Chloe’s nickname incited a groan from her girlfriend.
“God that one sucks, Chlo! Maximus Prime?”
“Sorry you uh- caught me at a bad time. Had to think of something on the fly.”
“I have a perfectly good name you could use? The one I’ve kinda had since birth?”
Chloe was about to retort to Max’s statement before a brown colored piece of fabric caught her eye.
“Whaaat? Whats wrong, Chloe? It’s not this wittle guy, is it?”
Max lifted arm to reveal a small bear puppet, which she waved around with a wide grin on her face.
“It’s just my BEAR hand, Chloe..”
Chloe took a step back as Max took a step forward and desperately tried to fight the grin playing at her lips.
“Beartholomew! I thought- I thought I conquered you when I was twelve!”
Max simply giggled, taking in the pink that had adorned Chloe’s cheeks.
“You thought wrong! For he was merely in hibernation! Aw, don’t look so emBEARessed. I thought you loved Beartholomew!”
Max’s cadence as she spoke and the little furball covering her hand brought back all the giggle-ridden memories of Chloe’s run ins with so called ‘Beartholomew’ and his easily disturbed temper. Nostalgia and fear were splashing together in Chloe’s head and she finally found she couldn’t take it anymore. The smile was audible in her voice now.
“Stop it with the bear puns!!”
“Uh oh, now you’ve really angered him. Why would you say something like that? You know how he gets..”
Max had bunched up the cloth in the bears face to mimic anger. Chloe chuckled nervously and shook her head.
“Seriously dude I swear to god-“
“Are you laughing? Do you think this is a joke? He is pissed, Chlo!”
Max’s hand began to shake around sporadically.
“Oh no, I can’t hold him back anymore, oh shit!”
And just like that, Beartholomew (Max) lunged at full speed, the mouth of the plush cobbing at Chloe’s side while Max made some terrible nibbling noises in the other girl’s neck to go along with the attack. Chloe firstly tried to fight back until she realized that when it came to Beartholomew, it was utterly futile. As she exploded into girlish laughter, she collapsed on the ground.
Max straddled her hips and continued to gently push the bear’s plastic teeth into Chloe’s ribs, all while pretending to be utterly distraught.
“Oh, Beartholomew- nomnomnom- stop! Stop don’t do this!! Don’t eat my girlfriend! There’s gonna be nothing left!”
“MAHAHAX! STAHAHAP- STAHAP NOHOT THE RIHIBS!”
“Chloe it’s not me! It’s my bear hand! -Nomnomnomnom- He’s gone rogue, Chloe! He wants ribs for breakfast!”
The two wiggled around on the floor for a while until Max’s hand retreated, hearing Chloe’s laughter go silent. Chloe caught her breath as Max smirked that playful little smirk she only got when she was hyper.
“You are.. so dead. So dead, Caulfield.”
“Ohh? Am I? Am I so dead? Because-“
Max suddenly interrupted herself making Beartholomew whisper in her own ear. She playfully gasped at whatever she pretended to hear
“You what? The reason Captain isn’t here is because you ATE his eye? Okay, we’re revisiting this. That’s just unacceptable.”
“Max you ate Captains eye.”
“Shh, Chloe! He’s trying to tell me something else!”
Max continued her mimicking, gasping again and grinning mischievously.
“What’s thaaat? You’re cold? Hmm, I think I know right where you can go to warm up..”
Chloe’s eyes widened as she realized what was being implied trying desperately to buck Max (and subsequently, that dastardly Beartholomew) but oh god Max’s mean ass giggles were so cute and why was this kind of fun? And-
“Max, Max- Beartholomew! Come ohohon! Come on not thehehe armpit!”
Max’s head cocked to the side as her grin spread even wider.
“Oh pray tell, why not the armpit?”
The bear loomed closer and closer.
“Becahahahuse- because it’s bad! It’s so bad!
Max kissed Chloe’s nose right as the puppet finally made contact to her underarm, Chloe knew she was noting how little she actually fought back.
“Oh, you poor thing. Guess you’ll just have to.. bear with me?”
“FUHUHUHUCK OHOHOFF! OHOHOHO MY GOHOHOD! STAHAHAHA!”
Max was feeling nice today, Chloe thought, because this spot only received a couple minutes of torture before finally she let up, lifting up that goddamned Beartholomew once and for all.
“Okay, I think that’s enough, you silly creature. Now look what you did. She’s bear-ly hanging on!”
Chloe gasped for air once again, a stupid smile spread across her face that she could still feel.
“Dude.. Beartholomew is bad. He sucks.”
“I agree, Cap’n. He does sucketh.”
Chloe smirked, an idea brewing in her head.
“You know Max, speaking of captains, he has to pay for what he did to your teddy bear!”
Her girlfriend nodded her head excitedly, happy as can be to see Chloe playing along. Completely oblivious. Or maybe she knows exactly what’s coming. Who knows.
“You’re right he does. How do you plead, Beartholomew?”
More fake whispering. Both girls gasped now, saying the verdict in sync.
Chloe pretended to look utterly disgusted.
“Crimes like such as these are punishable to the fullest extent of the law!”
“Yes! Yes they are! What is the course of action, Cap’n?”
She suddenly yelped when she felt fingers tasing her stomach, flopping to the side and allowing Chloe to be freed.
“Hehehey! Why are yohohou geheheting MEHEHE? Ihihits hihihis fault!”
“Max Caulfield, you are being tried as accomplice! You will pay for your crimes!”
“GAHAHAHA- THIHIHIS IS… UNBEARABLE!!”
Upon hearing Max’s shitty pun, Chloe picked up the pace of her skittering fingers. The laughs she got from doing so were exactly what she wanted.
“What a cold blooded criminal. Gone bad at such an early age. You hate to see it!”
All Max could do was laugh in response.
The two lay in a tangled heap of limbs on the bed. Chloe had more than gotten her revenge and drug them both onto the mattress to rest. Her girl, chin tucked into her neck, was tuckered out as can be.
“Are you crashing, Caulfield?”
“Do you understand why you gotta lay off the bean juice?”
There was silence for a while before Max spoke.
“..Hey, I didn’t mean what I said earlier. About the ‘Maximus Prime’ thing. I love it when you give me those dumb nicknames. I was just trying to piss you off.”
Chloe sighed fondly and planted a kiss on Max’s head.
“I really do love them. Even if they are.. corny.”
Max giggled as Chloe poked her side.
“Oh hush. We all have our things. Things the other pretends she hates but really she loves. I have my nicknames and you have.. you have shit like..”
“Beartholomew?” Max finally asked, knowing it’s the thing Chloe would never admit.
“Yeah, sure, whatever. Him.”
Chloe heard a snicker escape Max’s lips.
“.. I knew you loved Beartholomew.”
And it was true. She loved Beartholomew because in all honesty, he was Max. The true, hyper Max that Chloe couldn’t help but love. More than anything.
