Begonia rex Putz
The original rex begonia.

I'm (very slowly) reading thru the archived issues of The Begonian on the American Begonia Society's website. I'm really interested not only in the species themselves, but in the history of which species were "found" when, and the general culture around them. Here's a sloppy annotation of one section I found in the 1934 bulletin that I rather liked.
black mamba begonia! beautiful velvety leaves that appear to be blue and low light setting, bright red on the back. I’m pretty sure this plant definitely needs to be cut back so the center can grow more bushy, the leaves are just too beautiful to get rid of😅
Plant of the Day
Tuesday 9 May 2023
The distinctive leaves of Begonia listada (striped begonia) have a velvet texture being emerald green with a bright lime vein running down the centre and a red underside. This plants comes from the Brazilian rainforests where it is an understorey plant, resulting in the species thriving in shady conditions, out of direct sunlight with high humidity levels.

Begonia x ricinifolia is an artificail hybrid of Begonia barkeri × B. heracleifolia. Not sure if this picture works but I like textures of the stems.
