Of Mice & Men released their third studio album Restoring Force on January 28th, the album was produced by David Benedeth who produced albums by bands like Bring me the Horizon, Breaking Benjamin and A Day to Remember. When hearing Austin Carlile say in a interview this album would be more structured and more rock / nu metal sounding I was really excited and had high expectations for this album and hoped to hear a lot from Aaron. It seemed like the fans went forever without hearing anything about a release date or anything about the album until a picture appeared in AP magazine saying the album would be released on January 28th, shortly after Of Mice & Men released a studio video giving fans a sneak peak and things seemed to happen one after another after that video was released.
This album is one of my favorites by Of Mice & Men; Austin and Aaron’s vocals are very strong as well as the instrumentals. I agree with Austin when he says the album is more structured and has a more rock / nu-metal feel. Being unable to get into the constant heaviness that was the old Of Mice & Men albums this one really leaved me pleased. There are a lot of elements inside of this album, I think it is going to change the way people view nu-metal but not being completely nu-metal the album has some standard hardcore and heavy metal elements deep inside this album.
The first song on the album titled Public Service Announcement packs a real punch telling people that his life is none of their business and that people always go on to judge him when they don’t know anything about him. Public Service Announcement also goes on to touch about his three days in jail. One of my favorite songs off the album is Feels Like Forever, the way this song opens is just amazing and definitely think that this should be one of the singles off the album. Another You slows things down and brings a real personal touch to this album and Aaron’s voice in this song is one of my favorite things. My final favorite song off this album is You Make me Sick, there isn’t really a bad song on this album.
I would definitely recommend this album and say everyone should give it a listen. It will be a great album to hear live and will open many doors for Of Mice & Men as far as festivals and possibility of bands to tour with. You can check Of Mice & Men out on the American Dream tour with Bring Me the Horizon and Issues as well as South by so What and Rock on the Range! View this official tour dates here
Overall rating: 5/5
