Ayoooo I'm Bela (any pronouns). Just a silly little blog about Pokémon from the POV of a daycare employee. Asks are open! (OOC: Please read pinned post! The "canon" of this blog is NOT the same as the games and show)
Hello hello! I'm Bela, 21+ y/o who lives in Galar. Small island town called Hazeldale, and I work in the nursery section at the local daycare, The Dancing Mantyke.
I currently have 4 Pokémon! Snuffles (swinub), Fluffles (swablu), Boodles (shiny buneary), and Snuggles/Snuggs (hybrid pichu).
Since I work with mama Pokémon, I've gained a good familiarity with behavior, hybrids, and general Pokémon biology. Would love to be asked about it 💕
I'll mostly be posting about what's going on in the daycare's nursery :D
OOC (please read!)
I'm 18+ but this blog will be SFW.
The way I'm tackling Pokémon IRL is that, yes, acting as if Pokémon are real, but with an added layer realism.
Ex.
- pure Ghost types can't reproduce, and come from the dead
- Mammal based Pokémon like Ninetales have live litters instead of eggs
- wild breeds VS domesticated breed lines
It's a very fun concept to explore and I'd love to share it with others.
I won't be contradicting/"challenging" accounts that don't tackle it from a more realistic route!
That being said I also will likely ignore* any "but wait I thought?" comments that contradict what I'm saying. Nothing personal!
* Unless the purpose is to get me to explain more/a genuine back and forth, not on what's "real" to the Pokémon world
I'm also an artist and any art that I personally post, unless specified otherwise, is made by me!
I've been asked about sapient Pokémon before, and they're not "canon" to my blog! Though I will generally interact with blogs with canon that doesn't align with mine under the pretense that Bela isn't taking it seriously. You're a talking skitty? Sure she'll play along. From another dimension? She's not entirely sure what's going on there but she ain't gonna question it. But this would rule our characters interacting "IRL" or more in depth plots.
My dad got his Sudowoodo its own little pot to stand in outside his office. It pretends to be a houseplant, like, 24/7. I don't know who it thinks it's fooling! Everybody in the house knows you're a rock, buddy!
Do you have any information about the gender dynamics between say
Cinccino or Ninetales?
For those who don't know: Minccino and Ninetales both have a sex ratio of 25% Male and 75% Female.
The short answer for minccino is polygamy.
Here's a fun ecology fact: In pokemon, when there are more females than males, there tends to be a lot less monogamy because it's easier for males to produce sperm than it is for females to hold the egg inside of them for a couple weeks, go through the pain of laying the egg, and then having to raise the pokemon that hatch from the eggs. Biologically speaking, if the male stayed with one partner and helped her raise the pokemon to Adulthood, then that would leave a lot of other females who can't find any males to mate with, which can cause a decline in population. So, a lot of male pokemon with skewered gender ratio in favor of females evolved to have them, excuse my language but it's easier than trying to find words (which I'm already bad at), "Drip and dip." This is minccino. Males don't stick around to raise the babies because they gotta look for the next female to mate with.
Ninetales is an interesting case because, despite having a 25/75 male and female gender ratio, they still mate for life. There isn't much competition for males because, why? They discovered the concept of ✨️1 male and 2-3 female polygamy✨️. Basically: male Ninetales pair bonds with 2-3 females (who are usually all aware of each other), mates with all of them, and they all take care of the litters together. This works well because when there are 3-4 parents, the little pixies (baby vulpix) have a much higher survival rate than if there are just 2 parents. Tasks get distributed evenly amongst the three as well so, while one mom may be nursing both litters, the dad and the other mom may go hunting. It works for them. Zorua and (wild) fenniken do this, too.
And before anyone asks: yes, there are cases of the female ninetales pair bonding romantically while also still pairbonding with their male partner. It does happen.
Fun fact about Lucario: researchers don't classify them as patriarchal or matriarchal, but the female Lucario do, on average, tend to hold more power in pack dynamics than the males. This is because male Lucario VASTLY outnumber the females and, if they want a chance at passing their genes, they would have to be in the female Lucario's favor. This creates a phenomenon in pack dynamics where males may argue and disagree with each other more, but rarely ever argue with females, even if they have no interest in mating with any of them (trained social rules and all that still taking over). Male lucario are also more willing to listen to the females. You may notice your active or mischievous Lucario act calmer in front of a female or immediately back down when a female lucario (or female pokemon in general) scolds them. That's the reason why.
Another interesting phonomena this creates is the number of lucario-crossed pokemon compared with riolu/lucario crossbreeds. Hetero female Lucario tend not to struggle when picking mates because again, the males vastly outnumber them, while male hetero Lucario may struggle more. Lucario are monogomous and mate for life so there is rarely a chance they could have a chance with the female after she has a mate. Since they struggle to find female Lucario, many will end up mating with female pokemon of the same egg groups, such as Lopunny, Luxray, or Gardevoir.
Hey, I’m kinda bored so I’m gonna tell some legendary Pokemon where you live, I’m thinking either darkrai or landorus. Sorry for any inconvenience this causes you
please check your potions, paralyze heals, antidotes, etc. for their expiration dates. if you can't find the expiration, ask your local nurse joy.
using expired products could make you, your pokémon, and others sick. please make sure you are checking those things every time you buy one or use one. if you have a bunch of expired products, swing by my or any other pokécenter in galar. we have a promo rn where we'll trade your expired ones for fresh ones.
Losing my shit here, so if anyone out there knows of anyone who can take care of around 15+ Toxel (some have behavior issues) or can at least lighten the load, contact me or the gym's Frillishbook page immediately. Thanks
I don't think we can swing all 15+, but the daycare I work at can probably take on a few! The spring time baby boom hasn't quite hit yet, so we've got space :D
One of the most fascinating aspects to me about the Alolan line of vulpix is how QUICK they adapted. Most people don't even know they for a brief period of time, they were normal type!
Vulpix and ninetales weren't originally from Alola. They came over with traveling humans from Kanto but found themselves quickly outcompeted by pokemon native to the Islands. Going up the mountains provided better refuge against attacking pokemon. However, the type advantage over ice-type pokemon provided very little help. Using their flames lowers their internal temperature, making them more vulnerable to the cold.
We can tell from old bones and specimen trapped in ice that most vulpix rarely grew more than one tail. Most vulpix during this time period died young.
The vulpix and ninetales that lived were the ones who didn't use their flames. So! The fire-typing was eventually dropped, and they developed and expanded their move set.
We can see from preserved vulpix and ninetales that these normal variants had fluffier tails and duller colors, browner and grayer. The normal-type ninetales in particular had a VERY thick and fluffy mane compared to the Kantonian and modern Alolan ninetales, likely to keep themselves warm.
This normal type variant disappeared VERY quick as they developed the ice-typing not too longer afterwards, returning to a sleeker body with curlier fur that we now know.
"Why is my buneary changing colors? Is it dying/stressed/getting old?"
You may have an arctic buneary! During the warmer seasons, an arctic buneary is nearly indistinguishable from the common buneary. They tend to be bigger, have darker noses, more gray looking creams, and a more lean body. They're stronger than the common buneary, making them popular for competitive battling.
However, once it's winter (or they're brought to a cold climate), they'll grow thick, white fur, completely replacing their browns and creams! They look like little cotton balls and can be so easy to mistake for a pile of snow.
Some people wrongly identify them as albino buneary. While not all albinos have red eyes, buneary do!
Once it warms up, they'll start shedding their white fur. You can try to groom them to help, but they can act like toddlers over it, so be warned.
Woaaaah there. The common buneary hardly tolerates humans.
Wild buneary are painfully aware that they're prey animals and they will break your bones, and arctic buneary are even less socialized with humans.
You can get a common buneary from a breeder, and they'll likely be in good temperament! But arctic buneary have been bred as companions for a fraction of the time than common buneary have, and they still have different social needs and temperaments to their more domesticated counterpart.

Wind is a 16-year-old sparrow skilled in mechanics, extreme gear handling, and theft. As a child, her path crossed with that of the Babylon Rogues when she attempted to steal from them. However, instead of being annoyed, Jet saw potential in her and decided to adopt and raise her as part of the team.
As she grew older, her rebellious nature clashed with the hawk's authority. Consequently, seeking understanding or refuge, she agreed to join Sage. While she has now formed a strong bond with Seven, a hedgehog created by Eggman in an attempt to surpass the perfect life form, this doesn't stop her from missing the one who raised her.
About Suri:
Once upon a time Shadow was an idiot and got shot. This near-death experience kicked in an emergency asexual reproduction instinct. Surprise! You're a dad to a weird black arms salamander hedgehog baby now. Shadow was an idiot again and was brutally honest with Surprise about Black Doom and the Black Arms hivemind. They grew up dreading their future, knowing that Black Doom would inevitably return to claim them. Eventually they adopted the name Suri and decided they would serve Black Doom willingly to avoid having their mind taken over. They push their inherent good nature away, convinced that there's no point in having one and no way out of their fate.
Ranking veevees based on how annoying their cries are when they're upset:
9. Umbreon- their lower registers makes their pouting more grumbly than anything.
8. Flareon - more of a barker than a yowler. Lower register, but man does it travel.
7. Leafeon - higher register, but thankfully their cries don't get too loud.
6. Eevee - the worst thing is that they just won't stop barking. It's a higher pitch. Their little lungs don't allow for too much long, drawn-out yowling, but they'll make it up with non-stop barks.
5. Sylveon - higher pitch register, thankfully has a airy tone. "But Bela, why is it ranked higher then?" Because a truly upset sylveon can sharpen those airy cries into ear piercing barks that go right through your headphones.
4. Espeon - yowls and yowls. Long sustained cries. Sounds like an injured child.
3. Vaporeon - yowls sound more like shrieks. Their voice will basically never go hoarse so I have dealt with a disgruntled vapreon crying for 8 hours straight, only stopping when given food
2. Jolteon - you've never been in hell until you've heard an upset jolteon. They basically scream and they scream LOUD. Long, drawn out screaming yowls that gets the neighbors calling the local officer Jenny on you only did it turn out you were trying to brush them.
1. Glaceon - similar to jolteon, but their voice rises to the most ear piercing pitch. They are LOUD. Their barks will make you flinch. They yowl and screech. The most high-pitched cries out of any of the others. Headphones cannot save you.
I see you haven't been killed by a legendary yet, good on you 👍
the crazy thing about that is that it absolutely wouldnt take a legendary to kill me. a lot of pokemon could kill me with the right amount of motivation. i bet a bellsprout with a grudge could do me in by 4:00pm today if it so chose
