Being spotted by the deputy, Larc immediately surmised that he was in a bit of a pickle. This was a complicated situation. And while he had always been taught to treat authority with respect and to keep his head down as to not draw attention to himself … he more often than not would just avoid authority figures entirely. They made him nervous. But of all the centuries the warlock had walked the earth, he couldn’t recollect a time when he’d encountered law enforcement of a more supernatural origin. And he could sense it, oh yes, he could sense it clearly upon locking eyes with the deputy. He could feel the otherworldly flames as he felt the other natural elements … He couldn’t run from this; he couldn’t just ignore this encounter. Not only was this a deputy, but a hound of Hell … when it came to being arrested or being mauled to death, he wasn’t sure which was worse. Perhaps this would become a silent stand-off. He gripped the straps of his backpack slightly tighter. There was no escaping this. If he was truly a hellhound, then the deputy would already sense the fact that Larc was no ordinary boy. There was no point in keeping up a charade. If this man was as Larc sensed he was, then for all intents and purposes, they should be … how did Julian put it … ‘playing for the same team’? He hoped so. So he tried. “Need some help?” he asked with a quiet carefulness. He didn’t want to intrude, but he also wanted to establish that he wasn’t there to cause trouble. The last thing he wanted at that moment was to get on the bad side of a hellhound.
After that short moment of unusual for him vacillation, the hellhound seemed to be unshakeably engrossed in his task again. His ultimate concentration and strangely precise motions might have been resembling a state of trance. He took out the body and unwrapping it slowly yet decisively from the black bag, lifted it up to hold in his arms. He was already making the first steps towards the woods, when the boy spoke. While the creature seemed unimpressed by the descending distance between them, the child’s voice somehow manage to distract him again. As he was turning his head to look at the boy once more, something odd happened. Suddenly, his face twisted in a grimace of pain or rather a struggle and his eyes, second ago violently shut, now changed. There was no single flame in them, only olive green - so characterictic for Deputy Parrish. They swept around the surroundings, lost, unsure, shaken. But Jordan wasn’t given much time; after noticing the boy and then realising what was the source of the weight on his arms, the hellhound came back, tearing the control away from Parrish again and not letting him speak a word. He must go. Not looking at the boy again, he slightly sped up his steps. Though it didn’t seem that he would mind being followed. Since the boy belonged to the supernatural world too, it didn’t matter. The closer to the Nemeton he was, the warmer his body was becoming. Soon, the air was filled with smell of burning fabric, as his clothes turned into ash. Laying the dead chimera among the other bodies piled up all around the huge stump, he himself sat down in the middle of the cut tree. Flames wrapped his naked skin and enclosed the sacred area within a fiery ring. He lifted up his head, so far hidden in hands, and his eyes glowed even brighter. The duty was fulfilled.

The Delacroix family had scarcely been in Beacon Hills for a week and the town still scarcely knew more about them now than before the French father and son had moved to the area. They seemed a reclusive pair living in an old but luxurious home on the outskirts of the town. The son had yet to attend school, perhaps waiting until the dust of moving settled before acclimating himself to American academics. But Larc had truly spent that week acclimating himself to the land itself; he often went exploring, reading the energies and familiarizing himself with the natural magic of the area. The air was crisp and held a slight chill as he wandered the woods of the early evening, the sky alight with a setting sun. To the warlock, something in this particular section of the woods felt … wrong; it felt displaced. Gripping the straps of his backpack a bit tighter, he crossed the forested hills near the highway, coming upon the open road. Something was interfering with his translation of the energy … something he couldn’t quite place … And there was something else. Larc froze in his steps as he felt a trickle of warmth along his spine, a reverse chill. Something with … fire … was nearby … His head lifted so see a uniformed man in the distance … and his brow creased with confusion. What was a sheriff’s deputy doing out here?
Normal, calm days were truly a rarity in Beacon Hills. In fact, after the Dread Doctors had made their appearance, they bordered upon miraculous. And yet, it seemed that it was exactly one of such days. There were only a few minor complaints, a few explainable, human problems at the Sheriff’s Office. Wasn’t that too good to be true? Wasn’t it all too quiet? As if before another storm. Jordan couldn’t be sure if it was just him becoming paranoid or something was really off. Whatever was the case, he planned on remaining wary, even while off-duty. The day was yet to end. It wasn’t long until some greater powers decided that his presentiments were to turn out to be well-founded. But he himself was supposed to find out about it much later. He merely left the Office, when something changed. In him. Something switched him off. And there was no longer a human being called Jordan Parrish; there was a creature with one clear instruction in his mind. The holy, absolute duty of the hellhound, of the Guardian of the Supernatural was calling upon him. He didn’t need to search for the body. As always, he already knew where to find it. His feet led him straight to another dead teenager in a pool of blood and silver in some abandoned shed. Not even a single soul to stay on his way. Good. Soon, he was in the woods; the body safe in the trunk. He got out of the car and immediately sensed something. Normally, he would stay impassive, but this time he was alarmed. Even despite the distance, something was radiating with supernatural aura and overwhelming power. The hellhound turned his head to look with his fiery glowing eyes straight in the direction where a small boy stood and observed him. And he hesitated. However, the Nemeton was impatient, binding him with unyieldingly severe orders and forcing to proceed. He had to go.

arielswail:
well, he left. not that she really expected anything else from him. naturally, she hoped she’d be different. but she wasn’t. and she was surprisingly okay with that. wrapping herself up in her blankets to try and block out as much noise and keep in as much heat as she possibly could.
but then she heard his voice. and, at first, it was just confusing. her mind, working at a slower pace, was sure it was merely a trick she was playing on herself. but then she saw the water, and a small smile slipped across her lips.
❛ thanks. ❜
watching her for a while longer, he allows himself for a faint smile as well.
“no problem.”
then, suddenly driven by a strange impulse, he almost sits down next to her before thinking it through. the movement he made must have looked awkward, so after a short struggle, he eventually decides to give in and sit on the verge of the bed. and he doesn’t really have any explanation to give, neither to her, nor to himself.
