the horror and tragedy of Jacob Black

something that I think gets overlooked when talking about Jacob (or even the wolves in general) is the horror inherent in being a shapeshifter in twilight.

obviously there is the element of losing control of your emotions, or at least being more susceptible to anger. This is thoroughly addressed within the twilight series imo. What I don't see anyone talking about is the following

these children all of a sudden grow into full grown adults. Jacob is 16, Emry is I think 14 and then seemingly overnight they look 20 years old? I mean that has to do some fucked up things to how you perceive yourself, let alone how the outside world treats you.

Additionally the wolves are essentially war-machines. They are literally biologically engineered to be able to kill vampires. There is something inherent to them that makes them violently opposed to vampires, something deeply primal that tells them to kill when they even smell them. And somehow we're expecting Jacob to act normal and keep his cool around Edward? I haven't even touched on the fact that the shapeshifters are superhumanly fast and strong specifically in order to be able to kill.

All this to say. Jacob Black wakes up to find his mind and body fundamentally altered, he has lost control over both of them as well, he is being indoctrinated into what he previously thought was a cult and he is being forced to fight and kill eldritch beings. Perhaps worst of all though, he can no longer trust himself to keep him best friend happy and safe and has to ignore her completely to ensure he won't hurt her. I swear to god if I was that boy I would have gone completely insane.

og twihards need to be respected because do you know how freaky you have to be to find the concept of a twilight vampire attractive? they’re hard as stone, freezing cold, they barely move, no heartbeat, no breathing… they’re basically just corpses. and in 2008 nonetheless? they were freaky in fandom before it was cool.

and yet twilight vamps are constantly treated as the most stereotypical hot vampires ever when in actuality they are a very uniquely unnerving depiction of vampirism.

Whenever Bella left the Forks area code she got into so much avoidable nonsense

say whatever you want about twilight movies but the first movie being nearly completely in cool tones while new moon is completely in warm tones to represent the difference between edward and jacob aka vampire vs werewolf was so peak. the cool tones in twilight grouped bella with the cullens since she was pale and looked kind of dead, but the warm tones in new moon showed the great contrast between how unlike humans cullens were, and how bella, with her little tanned, blushing face, didn't belong to them. Not yet, at least.

"oh the human race is beneath us, you're just livestock to us" I don't think you know what livestock is. do you feed us? care for us? protect us from predators? no. you just slink around dark alleys and ambush people. that's not what a higher being does. that's a bottom feeder. a parasite. karate punches your head off

emily’s house literally just feels so homey. the boys all acting like brothers shoving each other around, the smell of giant blueberry muffins in the oven, the smiles and laughter all around... bella couldn’t have found a better place to be during new moon

I just realized in twilight edward tries to dance with bella and it’s really awkward and she goes “I can’t dance” but in breaking dawn part 1 jacob asks her to dance and she trusts him and takes his hand and he gracefully picks her up and spins her around and she’s grinning ear to ear...
