INSU
he still thinks that itâs ridiculous that just a few days prior, he would have prioritised the cleanliness of his shoes over the well being of his sister. wouldâve found that it was more worthwhile in feeding his hounds at home than to feed his sister any of his sympathy, found that his two dogs would serve him more loyalty than his own sister. a sister who would always rub it into his face how badly heâs behaving, how terribly heâs doing and how he should try harder to be nicer to their father and campaign manager without understanding a single thing. and even if she tried to be nice in her approach, it still irked him the way his sister sat on her high horse with her head so far up their fatherâs ass that it made her delusional as to think this family was salvageable.Â
âcould you imagine if yuna started acting like me to the jungâs? horrifying.â he canât help but add, lets a smirk grace at his corners as he spoke, shaking his head. rather enjoying the imaginative piece though, knows full well that the worst his sister could do was wear her shoes indoors over at the jungâs home. a brother could dream. but their father looked unimpressed, seemed a little confused as to why his disobedient, sister hating son was suddenly so bluntly defending her. âdonât worry father, i still very much dislike yunaâ sometimes itâs just hard seeing someone shove their head so far up your ass without getting any recognition is disheartening.â he adds in response to his fatherâs suspicious looks and accusatory words of poisoning yuna against him, words asking of what insu had told his sister or had hung over his sisterâs head to make them both side with one another. âi told you, itâs disheartening to see. iâm not heartless, you know.â rolling his eyes.
and he agrees that the only reason the jungâs were in compliance with their family still was because yuna was getting along with them so wellâ he doesnât expect anything less coming from his suck up sister. âbetter watch yourself dad, donât disinherit the wrong person and fuck up your chess game.â insu warns his father, receiving a scowl to be aimed at him. âyeah, and listenâ iâll even do the whole interview bullshit and talk about how great of a dad you are for giving me the visitation rights and how iâve rehabilitated. peace and love, no drugs just hugsâ all that shit too.â he adds with a shrug.Â
the campaign manager seems to be buying into his bargaining, seeing as the way she would gently tap their father on the knuckle like some sort of morse code. his gaze is drawn to their campaign manager before falling to her tapping digit, she catches his gaze and pulls back hurriedlyâ a smirk tugs at his corners. âiâll even get married to whoever the fuck my options are.â he adds, determined to get his visitations rights, turning to his sister. âwouldnât it be funny if our fiancĂ©âs end up eloping?â an exaggerated laugh leaving him.
"i don't think anyone can act like you do besides yourself, insu." yuna rolls her eyes with her brother's comment, not being able to picture it even herself. after all, her brother does know how to be a menace whether he's even trying or not and even if yuna tried follow her brother's steps into the path of malice, she doubts she'd able to pull even half of the things that he does. besides, there's also the factor that sometimesâ just sometimes mrs jung reminds yuna of their mother, how warm and welcoming she is even though yuna isn't engaged to her son out of love, how she treats her son. mrs jung makes the law student wonder if this is what would be like if her own mom didn't end up sick, if she was the one sat on this dinner table instead of the campaign manager.
that's something that she wished she had the opening to talk to insu about with the certainty that he wouldn't react badly, accusing yuna of treating their mom like she's replaceable. the youngest lee wanted to be able to drop by insu's estate after a family dinner with euijin's family, to cry over the bittersweetness that threatened to overwhelm her because she misses their mom, misses the what if she wasn't sick, because mrs jung treating her so well makes her yearn for something that she once had but is unattainable now. but she knows that as much as insu is more open towards her these days, they still aren't there yetâ maybe they never even will.
"maybe i'm just tired of not being recognized." she says when insu is accused of poisoning her against her own father or that he's somehow blackmailing her in taking his sides. "and i'm not taking sides, i never did." even though yuna sort of is, even though she sort of did and the law student does send a quick glance to her brother in a warning for him to keep quiet because she's almost sure that he's going to point out that she has always taken sides, just not his. "i'm just pointing out the most reasonable option like i've always had." because that's how the oldest lee has always seen it, assuming that yuna was taking the most reasonable and right path which collided with the one her dad took also took.
but of course now that her opinion didn't collide with the lee insik then he was less willing to admit that she's the second most level headed person in the table, only losing the candidate himself and it shows in how, as much as he has yet to point out a single con of handing insu the visitation rights, instead simply offending his children. "we've presented you with a list of pros to why giving insu mom's visitation rights is a good idea and you have yet to counterargue against it."
and then she can't avoid how her heart tightens with the idea of euijin marrying someone else, of him choosing someone that isn't her even though yuna knows that it isn't fair, that they aren't in this engagement out of love and maybe if they had met through other ways then they wouldn't be interested in each other, then euijin wouldn't have any reasons to be as nice to her as he is. yuna has no right to feel this... jealous and against the idea of euijin in a relationship with someone else. "yeah, that'sâ" though she sounds stiff, uncomfortable, takes her a pause an awkward clear of throat before giving a not so convinced laugh. "very funny, veryâ uhâ fitting, i suppose."
yuna hopes that this onceâ just this once her brother won't point it out, won't question her or look too much into it and find the truth because she isn't ready to talk to him about it, to have him realize her feelings and once again make fun of her for it since only someone stupid would fall in love when in an arranged relationship.
