with the lousy creeking door being open. Ace flutters his eyes open.

“Hm..? Sabo?” he mutters quietly.

Moving slowly towards Ace’s bed, he sits just an inch away from him. He raises a hand to Ace’s cheek, gently rubbing his thumb over it.

"Yeah," Sabo whispers softly.

Ace’s head tilts a little into Sabo’s hand. Sabo scoots closer and plants a gentle kiss on Ace’s other cheek, causing Ace to laugh softly.

“Hey... What’s up? What’s gotten you so... affectionate all of a sudden?” Ace’s eyes trail all over Sabo’s face, trying to detect any concern. Sabo just stares back with a slight smile, placing his hand gently on top of Ace’s in his lap.

Sabo sighs and closes his eyes, then looks up at Ace with a small frown and teary eyes. “I’m just... worried. Y’know... almost executed and all... long lost ‘brother’ and stuff..” he says, huffing a laugh at the end.

Humming at that, Ace scoots a bit closer too and presses kisses over Sabo's jawline and the corner of his eye. Pulling back with a sweet smile, he brings their hands together, intertwined, and rests his head on top of Sabo's shoulder. “It’s over now, right? Thank you, by the way. For being there for me... and Luffy.”

Sabo's free arm holds Ace by the waist and pulls him a little closer, kissing his forehead. “I want you to live, to love.”

Ace stays quiet, so does Sabo, and they linger in a comfortable silence. Hands still holding, ensuring that they’re still together, alive and well.

…

Until a snore breaks out.

Ace fell asleep while Sabo was about to add something else.

Being a rookie pirate who just started to gain his own fame in new world was easy but what wasn’t easy was the baby that was curled up in its mothers womb, under his heart. Portgas D. Ace the newest pirate of the worst generation, captain of the Spade pirates. He was just a few months pregnant but the swell of his baby bump wasn’t too noticeable, he just looked slightly bloated.

He usually hid it with his short sleeved shirts. He didn’t think much of it and although his crew was alarmed when he started to get contractions one night, they all panicked but Ace was stubborn and didn’t let deuce help him regardless of the pain. He curled up at night holding onto his stomach, like embracing it.

Feeling small movements and kicks of the baby who was active and unsettling its mother despite the circumstances.

Late at night, deuce slowly opened the door to Ace’s room.

“Hey Ace.. I know you’re not always up for it but do you mind me checking up on your.. baby?”

even with the dim lit room, the moon reflected a the room enough for deuce to see Ace’s expression. Not mad, or bothered just crunching his nose while holding his baby bump.

Letting out a sigh, Ace unbuttons his shirt and lets the small baby bump show, nodding at Deuce to come in. Lightening the lamp with his finger on fire.

with the room more clear now with the Ace’s fire reflecting the room, Deuce grabs his stethoscope from his bag and slowly moves towards Ace and kneels down to press down gently on his baby bump.

A small cute bump on aces stomach, is full of life living in there.

While slowly moving it down his baby bump, deuce catches a small movement of skin stretching on Ace’s belly where he’s currently hearing the faint heartbeat of the baby.

Ace, who’s staring attentively throughout the check up, rubs his thump over the area the baby had just moved in.

Looking up at Ace with a warm smile, Deuce then gets plastered in the face with a pillow. It’s an embarrassing sight for Ace, who’s blushing and frantically whispering half yelling for Deuce to leave already.

Deuce gets up from his kneeling, chuckles softly, and puts his stethoscope away. "The baby's heartbeat sounds perfect," he says gently to Ace.

Trying to act tough despite the fact he’s deep down both relieved and happy about it just not out loud, he turns to deuce and makes eye contact with a wobbly lip and sad eyes that are about to tear up.

He embraces Deuce and whispers a “thank you” although it’s not always that Ace does physical affection to his crew.

This was, personal.

Everyone knew how Ace was to them; he was their sun. He found a way into his crew’s hearts and built a home for them together. That’s why every time they were on a new island, they stood by his side, not just out of gratitude for Ace's kindness and respect, but also for the baby that their captain carried and cared for.

Even with that, deuce pats his back and rubs it while trying to position his body away from the baby bump to prevent putting pressure on it.

Laughing while pulling away, Ace stares at deuce with vulnerability and nods at him with a smile.

Just as he was about to leave, he grabbed a blanket from his bag that surprised Ace because it wasn’t just any blanket—it was a baby blanket.

"I thought it was cute while we were staying over in the village and saw it, and uhm, I thought it was cute. For your baby," Deuce said nervously but with a smile. Ace blushed happily, clutching the blanket.
