doodlan before bed
Back at it again with the BBC radio adaptation of the Sherlock Holmes stories. Michael Williamsâ Watson has a soft moment in an episode where he comforts a frustrated Holmes. Watsonâs voice is quiet, almost whispering, and you can hear both their deep breathing in the silences between words, and I couldnât stop thinking about Watson embracing Holmes and holding him in one piece with his arms. My heart breaks in a million pieces for them.
Of course Holmes instantly jumps at the sound of a bell when there are news of a case and heâs completely fine in seconds kjghdfjghfgÂ
I rarely post art here because the tagging system seems to hate me and half the times my posts wonât show on the search engine for the first few days. I honestly post more on my shipping twitter Dapperpunch.
Also most of what I sketch on my free time is explicit stuff so I canât post it here even if I wanted but I digress.
More Holmes/Watson fluff. I was high on cold medicine when I drew the first one so excuse the roughness.Â
The Cornish coast might be a tad lugubrious, but it also has its charms.
Iâve been trying to draw Granada Holmes and Watson a bit more stylised so I can draw them faster and a bit more animated, but still making them recogniseable as Brett and Hardwicke. I guess Iâll have to draw more and practice :V
(thank you @sightkeeper for helping me decide on how to paint this, I was ready to abandon this and leave it unposted with the other hundred drawings I have)
That scarf was too fun to draw so I had to indulge a bit more. I rather like drawing Holmes with short hair, actually.
listenâŠâŠ listen. i will never stop drawing them
Watson taking care of Holmes
Something close to tenderness.
Another Johnlock painting based on old victorian picture I found :) Theyâre super fun to paint! During my researches I found quite some explicit ones (which surprised me tbh) so itâs nice to see some people had some fun back then hehe! Maybe Iâll use some of these references for other paintings! :)Â
peter hammondâs less-than-subtle rainbow lighting đ
đđđ
I would love to know if thereâs any interview or anything written about why Peter Hammond did this. Itâs a very obvious lighting choice done repeatedly, so aside from âit just looks coolâ I just feel there has to be more reasons as to why. (oh the amount of times Iâve wanted to paint something based on these rainbow light scenes and make a print. Iâm just shit at painting)
While Iâm not aware of any interview or acknowledgement of this, Iâve skimmed through all the episodes he directed and can confirm that the rainbow lighting is specifically reserved only for Holmes and Watson, or occasionally, scenery very close to them (so basically, close enough).
Also worth mentioning that this is arguably the first appearance of this lighting in Sign of Four in, well. This scene. (His direction in Sign of Four is. Interesting. Thereâs a lot of spacing between Holmes, Watson and Mary, visual divisions, framing devices etc. Itâs fascinating and deserves itâs own post, so I wonât lump it on here.)
(Bonus bcus Hammond makes a point of Holmes having one of Watsonâs model ships and interacting with it, here and Mazarin Stone, when Holmes announces heâll be leaving for a while.)
Honestly? Maybe Iâm being optimistic on this, but it feels very deliberately âtheirâ lighting, at the very least. I would like to think the rainbows are about as symbolic as they seem. Hammond has specific associations with colour, often per story, e.g vivid reds, oranges and purples often signify mystery and/or danger.
But while something like those colours can be fairly easily defined, obviously the rainbow is still left up to interpretation. Buuut also. Weâve the first appearance when Watsonâs talking about his new crush, and that lovely rainbow ceiling appears at the very mention of love letters soÂ đ€· (and from the gifs, 4 are talking about dreams, Watsonâs concerns about Holmes, and Freud.) Oh gee, rainbows on our two male leads, whatever could it mean? (let me hope there was intent here ;-;)
(also thatâs such a mood on the artwork ;-; iâd love to do something with these palettes too⊠you should totally go for it <3)
And finally, because I somehow managed to forget this scene from the original gif post -
inktober days 13-15
tenderness <3
You donât need to be a detective to come to that conclusion, Holmes.Â
Iâm testing a new brand of drawing matte ink (Eon Vortex) this month and so far I love it and want to use it for everything. I used dip pens for the lines and diluted the ink with water to paint the shades. Next Iâm planning on testing the ink in a fountain pen, as soon as I get one that is simple enough for me to learn how to fill it.
I also like how the sketch (drawn on the back of a paper receipt lol) came out so here you go.Â
Some smooching done in walnut ink. Iâm not used to the transparency this material has but I find it interesting nonetheless, so I will probably use it in future sketches.Â
Back at it again in the Turkish bath.Â
In which Watson is getting buff again and Holmes is very gay.Â
Since I havenât drawn anything for myself lately hereâs an old thing I inked last month.Â
Someone please hire me to draw these fools kissing 24/7, since itâs the only thing I want to draw, ever.
Tfw itâs your bday but youâre really not feeling it so your doctor asks that nobody disturb you today, then prescribes a dose of bed-and-cuddles until the morale improves.
Kiss Art February // Day 3 : âWorshipâ
Thereâs nothing that makes my heart melt more than some good old hurt/comfort. Holmes makes sure to thank the man that constantly patches him up for his infinite patience and his steady hands.Â
