Bird #92 - Guadelupe caracara (EX)
Back to my roots with extinct birds... The Guadelupe caracara, also known as the calalie or quelili, was considered common in 1876. Within a mere 30 years, the combination of active hunting from farmers and habitat destruction brought them to extinction. The last confirmed sighting was in 1900.
Full (and not flickering) image, plus some ramblings from me:
my roommate and i were trying to identify two birds outside of our window and she's pulling up pictures on her phone and she says "ok so that one's a house sparrow" and shows me a picture i nod my head and then she points to the reddish one next to it outside and says "and that one's a house finch" and she shows me again and i nod and then she switches to a new tab and it's a picture of hugh laurie and she says "and this is house m.d." i'm gonna kill her
~HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROMANO~
the transition im crying
I am walking onto the field. Haters are forcefully removing me from the premise
its kind of sad that bugs are so weak. it dishonors their noble biology. i guess this is is why crustaceans are so admirable. imagine for a moment, an unsquishable bug. such is the way of the crab
how to train your dragon is a horse girl movie at heart
a cat is a sort of machine that dispenses hair all over you and everything else in the room
i loooove little moments of human connection. i love it when a stranger has something good happen to them and you get to be a part of the celebration for a moment. i love it when it starts raining and you and a stranger get to say wow its really coming down out there! i love it when something happens and you and a stranger get to share a look. i will never see you again but we did experience something together and for just a moment we were a pair! i genuinely live for that shit
Day #68
What if all the Hidgen's were actually different people/clones?
submitted by: @/possibly-evil
(joke theory because it happened before the timeline split)
"Henry Hidgens" as we know him is not a real person, in every timeline, a different workin' boy survived the lightning strike and became Henry.
imagine living before it was common knowledge that some birds have the capability to not only mimic noises but can TALK. if I heard a disembodied voice from the trees I too would think a demon was after my soul. where’s my damn crucifix
knowing middle schoolers, i imagine one of grace's students had a tumblr blog where they'd just yap about their life and get like 3 notes per post. grace would come up at times less like a teacher and more like a friend the student worries about because while he is an excellent teacher he is also just kind of deeply pathetic. one day the thing they post is titled: my fucking science teacher just got launched into space??? it goes viral. grace accidentally makes one of his students a niche tumblr microcelebrity.
kind of crazy no one has drawn the time traveler and the medieval peasant staring at the night sky with their bag of doritos
in 2014 there would have been shipping fanart
i bet it feels good as fuck to intend to do something and then actually do it
we as a society ignore rocky's jazz hands far too often. i imagine that he's literally the only one who does them and he told grace it was a cultural custom because he's always wanted to start that trend. adrian spiritually raises an eyebrow whenever he does it.
REASONS TO NOT END IT:
"ao3 exists. that sounds stupid, but i’m being dead serious. it is a constant reminder that people love stuff enough to create for one another with compensation. that is an act of love that is shared with all, bonded by adoration of story. in a weird way, it is one of the purest forms of art in the world."

alright I've got to do some quick math to explain attitudes towards AI to my boss.
we're looking to create an AI policy, and when we were talking about this, my boss (older millennial) was genuinely shocked to hear that younger people do not (seem) to view AI positively (a la the recent commencement speakers being booed)
please rb for larger sample size!
Question 1/3
What is your age, and do you feel AI is a net positive or net negative in our lives today?
under 18, AI is a net positive
under 18, AI is a net negative
18-29, AI is a net positive

30-45, AI is a net negative
46-60, AI is a net positive
46-60, AI is a net negative
over 60, AI is a net postive
over 60, AI is a net negative
Question 2/3
How often do you visit or interact with museums/archives (whether in person or online)?
Frequently (multiple times per month)
Often (multiple times per year)
Occasionally (a couple times per year)
Rarely (once every couple of years)

Question 3/3
If you saw a museum was using AI in exhibits, marketing, research, etc., would you be more or less inclined to visit that museum?
under 18, more inclined
under 18, less inclined
18-29, more inclined
