i’m seeing a lot of messaging (in art and otherwise) that Minnesota/Minneapolis isn’t afraid of ICE, and i feel obligated to clarify: we are afraid.
our city is under occupation by federal agents who are shooting citizens in the streets. we are fucking terrified. we’re scared that we’ll witness or experience violence every time we leave our homes. we’re scared that we won’t witness something we could’ve prevented. we’re scared that proceeding with our daily responsibilities is allowing our neighbors to be brutalized. we’re scared that our fear is only giving the federal occupation more power and then we feel guilty for not fearlessly fighting it. we have things we want to do in the upcoming weeks, months, and years that we are scared a federal gun will take away.
we don’t want to be looked to as paragons of revolution, we just want to live in our city.
