it’s funny bc I think I have a lot to learn, with blindspots that I’m still trying to fill in by reading more and talking to people etc, but when I’m hanging around certain family members I suddenly become The Wokest Person Alive just by merit of having made some attempt to not be shitty. and this isn’t level 3 discourse like “conflating submissiveness with a preference for bottoming is misogynistic”, it’s basic shit like “no, health is not a state of mind, and sick people are sick for reasons beyond bad attitude,” and “no, you should not loudly talk about how shocked you were that a Nigerian man was at grandma’s funeral,” and “please don’t say that about Jewish people,” and so on.

and usually they are willing to listen when I talk about this stuff, so there is a benefit to me being there, but holy crap is it a tonal shift going from online to real life.

It's always hard reading about the violence committed to steal America, but the buffalo is always like... That's some inhuman shit. Everyone is burning in hell for that one. Wdym there were thirty to sixty MILLION buffalo in 1800, and by 1900 there were only 300 left. THREE HUNDRED. Originally, I went in worried the opposite would happen. Growing up, I've been taught that Nigeria, the country, is homophobic. (I was born in America.) But over time, I learned that there's tons of other queer Nigerians; some are out, and some are in the closet 😭.

I'm also not used to this much attention, lol

it's weird how there's this perception of OCD as the "cleanliness" disorder where people still consider OCD behaviors to be like, rooted in some rational and correct (but overshot) trajectory toward objectively sanitary conditions, if that makes any sense? like there was a reddit post about somebody's roommate who had an extremely biohazardous room and a few commenters mentioned that OCD might be a factor based on her other behaviors, and a bunch of non-OCD-havers were like "what??? but it's objectively not clean??? there's so much bacteria in there???"

like idk how to tell you that the disorder gives you disordered thinking. disordered thinking is not rational. and there are absolutely things that trigger 1 person with OCD but do not matter to another, because your OCD can latch on to literally anything.
