Bettas👏dont👏live👏in👏puddles👏as👏their👏natural👏habitat👏
Bettas in the wild live in rice paddy fields.
At least 2-3 feet deep. Acres upon acres of water. They TRAVEL in puddles. They don’t live in them.
My fishes fins are tearing very bad, I just noticed it today and I am very worried. It’s mostly the top fin, it is almost completely gone. I just did a water change a few days ago and he lives in a heated filtered tank alone. I don’t know what is wrong but I am very worried and I need help to figure out how to fix it. I have api stress coat but I don’t know what else could help heal his fins.
having fish has taught me how precious and special all life is, even the tiniest and grumpiest ones
I have had this strange thin plant stuff growing in my tank and I can’t get rid of it. I don’t know what is is and I’m wondering if anyone has had this problem or know what it is.
So there is this guy in my biology class that has a 2 fish and has no idea how to take care of them. He put a goldfish and a betta together and didn’t know why his betta was being aggressive towards the goldfish. I just don’t know how someone who is in college and a biology major doesn’t understand gerneral knowledge of a fish that you “care” for. He also kept them in a tank under 3 gallons, neither of those fish should have that small of tank. Please do your research and understand general care of an animal before caring for them.
I try so hard at work (chain pet store) to get these bettas into proper homes and customers just ignore EVERYTHING!
Oh honey
People ask me why I find myself hopelessly in love with biology and want to major in genetics. Here’s why:
I have this fish tank. A glass box of water I put sand and rocks in. But the point of a fish tank are the things that are alive. I have plants that reach outstretched hands to the light and grow to the barrier between the clear fluid they live in and the clear gas we breathe. In one single leaf so much chemistry takes place, photosynthesis makes ungraspable light into life supporting substance.
And in my fish tank I have a fish. A fish that can be found lifeless in cups in pet stores, but I’ve seen this fish thrive. I’ve seen him change color due to jumping genes. I’ve seen him play in the filter meaning he makes decisions. Something so small exists and lives and makes choices. It baffles me, truly. Such vibrant color that I can only compare to something man made and yet it was nature that did it first.
I see this little world that I have placed on my shelf. Cared for by me; dependent on me. It amazes me the human emotion I have for them, and how far humanity has gone that I can dose the tank and manage it on a delicate scale.
And sometimes I wonder, what if we exist on a glass box on someone’s shelf? One way glass we can’t look out, but if we could, everything would be different? What if we are all a fragment of someone’s novel or a C+ science project? Life is so so amazing, it’s baffling.
Just an update on Orion, he is doing great and is one happy boy
stop putting fish in bowls 2k18!!
^^^ important
Yo betas don’t need filters. They like still water. This means you have to clean the tank very very often, though.
they need filters. you can’t cycle a tank without a filter and you shouldn’t have a betta in an uncycled tank. they need a lower flow filter because they’re not the best swimmers but they definitely require one to be healthy. if you have a filter and a cycled tank, you don’t have to clean the tank as often. even if you clean the tank ‘very very often’, with no filter, ammonia builds up and that’s harmful to them.
some fool: wow why do you have ten gallons for one fish? isn’t that boring?
me: my son deserves the best
Like??? Have you ever SEEN a betta in a 10gal????? They SPLORE! They ZOOM! They DOOF! They WHAT ARE YOU EVEN doING?? And make you laugh. Why not give a star a bigger stage???
(dramatic yawn, dramatic hick-up, dramatic turn).
this is the quality content i signed up for when i joined this site… what an amazing boy!!!!!
