Behind the scenes of The Stolen Earth / Journey’s End (Part 6)
Excerpts from Doctor Who Magazine #398, as reported by Benjamin Cook
It’s Monday, 20 March 2008. A man who looks like David Tennant paces around the Dalek Crucible. This man is Collum Sanson-Regan. He’s Irish, not Scottish, and he only looks like David from behind, really. But that’s good enough. He’s sporting the brown pinstripe suit, while David - the real David - wears the blue suit. All day long, the lead actor and his double have been dashing off every half hour or so, to swap costumes. Each scene is shot once with David in the brown suit, and then once again with him in the blue. Collum likewise. Logistically, it’s a nightmare. How is David keeping track of which Doctor is which? “Well, obviously, the colour-coding is a clue,” he laughs, “but I know what you mean - are they two distinct performances? Well, slightly. There are different thought processes going on. And I’ve underlined them in different colours in the script, which is a big deal. It shows I mean business! They’re different characters, but they’ve both got to be the Doctor. It’s the same character, but it’s not. It’s a tricky one, because Rose, at the end, you want to feel that she is left with the person that she loves, but also that she isn’t. It’s quite a subtle, ambiguous ending for Rose.” Which suit does David prefer: the brown or the blue? “I change my mind, actually. The blue suits are getting a bit baggy,” he says, “but we’ve got some new ones coming in, which is great. If you look at the brown suit now, it’s beginning to get a bit tatty. But I don’t mind that. I quite like a bit of tatty.” And did he enjoy getting naked in the TARDIS in Journey’s End? DWM can’t imagine so. “No, not really,” he confirms. “It came at the end of a long shoot. You don’t exactly have a chance to go to the gym when you’re filming Doctor Who every month, so it wasn’t ideal timing. But it was very quick.”

It's weird how people act like the drama between KH and SR never existed and leaving Alex and all of her friends was something Izzie would do. Because it was not! Some people were all OK with this then, but now, they go mad about Alex going back to Izzie and his kids. Because in their mind Izzie did not love Alex enough? Or because Alex was always meant to be with Jo? Sorry guys, i will not deny that it was rushed in some ways and i am not fully glad how it was written out as well but the fact is;
Alex and Izzie were always meant to be together.
This is exactly what would have happened years ago, if Katherine never left the show, or Shonda did not go mad and ruin Izzie's character. So, it is actually just like delayed justice for Izzex and their fans.

Yo back then cartoons used to deal with some real shit.
I remember this episode. It was the Christmas special.
Arnold is Mr. Hyunh’s Secret Santa and learns that he was separated from his daughter, Mai during the Fall of Saigon in 1975 in Vietnam. Mr. Hyunh planned to find her when he got out of Vietnam but with all the political turmoil it took him 20 years to get to America and by then no one new how to find her.
Arnold decides to find Mai as a Christmas gift for Mr. Hyunh and succeeds thanks to Helga’s help.
It was a really emotional episode. Talking about the politics and the trials of being separated from family for so long that happened so often at the time.
This is super emotional and important but like
Can you imagine being in that Secret Santa group and being like “Oh, what did Arnold get for Mr. Hyunh?”
“Well he reunited him with his daughter who he was separated from decades ago at the end of the Vietnam War. He’d never seen her since despite a lifetime of searching, and it was the most breathtaking moment of emotional beauty I’ve ever seen in my entire life.”
“Oh. Well I got Arnold some socks. I hope he likes socks.”
@cherazor prompted a counterpart to this piece, so here we go~ Dedicated to her 💜
No one cares but I'll say it anyways. ALEX LEAVING JO IS NOT IZZIE'S FAULT. Alex is a full grown man who can make his own decisions. It's so sad seeing people hate on Izzie when Alex was the one who chose to leave his wife. Izzie didn't want Alex or she would have told him the moment she got pregnant, which shows that she only wanted to become a mother. So stop hating on her and blame the actual man. I'm an Izzex shipper and I'm obvioulsy happy that they are endgame but I know most of y'all loved Jolex and hated Izzie (an unjustified hatred but that's another conversation) but don't blame this on Izzie. Just don't.
