So after 5 years and dozens of aborted attempts at playing it, I finally finished Amnesia: The Dark Descent yesterday. I played during daytime, used a walkthrough, and only occasionally used headphones, but given how terrified this stuff makes me, I'm still pretty proud of myself. I've heard many reviews saying that A Machine for Pigs is less outright terrifying and more disturbing and creepy. Should I give this one a go at night with headphones, or is it still incredibly terrifying?

So far, about two hours in, it’s definitely creepy but has not approached the levels of The Dark Descent. Not sure if that’s purely due to the change in atmosphere and storytelling, or compounded by the changing of mechanics.

Amnesia didn't work for me, I didn't get anything from it. I play in the dark with a headset cranked up game on max settings and just got bored.  I envy you, In my head all I can think about is how the game is made, how I can out maneuver the AI, never letting my guard down :(
