is redux smt to read smw or isit not yet in the works (but being worked on)
hi!! its just in the works right now. there's writing snippets around! some in the character proposals, I think Pencil, Book, and Leafy have the longest written snippets. I don't have written snippets under a tag right now, but I can make one fast!
Hi anon! InsulÄvoric is the language Dora speaks according to the BFDI Guide Book. In the redux, it's the primary and native language for Clayland(Redux!Davidland)
In canon, it's what Dora speaks. Dadadadadada dadadadada!
Here, it's what David AND Dora speak.
My plan with the redux is to explore it more as a conlang. I'm looking to use VSO(verb-subject-object, ate Sam apples) or VOS(verb-object-subject, ate apples Sam). Compare that to what you see with English, SVO(subject-verb-object, Sam ate apples).
The idea is that it would be deep and complex, like any language. An uneducated listener may have a hard time telling the difference between words. Infliction and pace are VERY important and telling of your knowledge. A lot of folks from Clayland can tell if you grew up there or not based on that.
It's a great feat to learn. Just as English would be for them. Dora has a hard time speaking it due to the differences, but she's learned to understand it. David managed to learn to understand and speak English.
Tbh this would be my most daring conlang venture. I've only managed two languages before, one still just stuck on phonemes and in VOS, and the other does have a whole lexicon and is SVO. I think it would be wise to find a collaborator for this one.
If you could add 3 things from Bfdi Redux to replace canon from the start, what would they be?
Neopronouns Three: xy/xym/xyr
Canon doesn't have many/ANY characters with neos actively used on them. Characters that do use any/all pronouns are kept to sets of he/she/they. Pls
2. Algebralien Domains
The pocket dimension redux!algebraliens have! Domain garunteed or your money back!!
Domains were an attempt to explain the little worlds Two, Four, and One are connected to, the ultimate control they have over those dimensions, and also a fun way to explore the lack of logic in them. External entrances were made by Two for the Equation Playground. Roboty was a weird attempt at this from Four, a gift to X that the two would drag around.
3. Firey and Leafy's talk
I need Firey to take accountability for the way he treated Leafy SO BADLY. Firey got his sorry. I don't think Leafy knows that what Firey did at the end of BFDIA was for her. He continued to ignore her anyways!! He still cared about her. He had an awful way of showing it. He still hurt her.
I was back and forth on Leafy or Firey being taken by One. I eventually decided against it. Earlier this year, I became the same way with them settling on their own Dream Island.
Their stories are majorly over when it comes to contests. They're retired from competition after BFB. Their time in the spotlight is over.
But I see potential!! A spin-off series of shorts.
Leafy is impulsive and intense, Firey is airheaded and petty. Leafy has understanding and Firey has accountability. They're both stubborn.
By all means, they should clash. They DO clash!! But they can also reconcile. It's what they do in BFB after a serious discussion, then they built trust.
My biggest problem, what REALLY makes me want to not go through with their Dream Island, is the fact that Leafy literally went into isolation over the guilt she felt buying Dream Island from Announcer because Firey wouldn't let her on. Firey ignored her and pretended he didn't know her for about 5 years. Gelatin and Leafy BOTH tried to mend that friendship in IDFB!! Dude!!
I know some people are able to move on from that, somehow, or at least see past it. Forgive but not forget. But idk..
Moving onto a remote island together could be a choice of passion and impulsivity. Trying to prove to the other that they're going to do well together as friends again.
I WANT to explore the struggles they have if I do stick with Dream Island. Arguments between them are loud and frustrating on both sides. They'd both have to take a short break from the other before talking things out. Firey would be trying to prove he's changed and Leafy would be in a forgive but don't forget mindset.
I'm thinking 8-Ball could be the catalyst to them moving back to mainland. Realizing it's kind've a breath of fresh air to N O T be stuck with each other on the island.
On the other hand, living together platonically and happily for the rest of their lives...
Even if him showing up DOESNT cause them to move away from each other, 8-Ball would probably appreciate the help getting back to mainland. He'd be worried about Dora and Firey Jr.
God now I'm actually imaging queerplatonic polycule Firey/Leafy/8-Ball this has to be the randomest thing I've ever come up with. Funniest shit to possibly put in redux. ANYWAY,
Firey and Leafy would expect help from him but only AFTER recovering from any injuries, and also assuming he's well off enough mentally to help. The duo are going to have questions about him flying out of a storm onto their beach š while they're collecting seashells.
He might find peace away from the competition. He would go back to land. MAYBE return to the island if offered, I can see him participating in another season if it's not hosted by an algebralien. He's at his limits with them.
He'd ALSO get to bear witness to Firey and Leafy's conflicts. He tends to sit back for that kind've stuff. It also keeps him from accidentally getting their ire, he's learned it's better not to piss off already angry people. He's rolling on eggshells thanks to Four.
Firey and Leafy would also be good to help 8-Ball with healing. As intense as they both get they're ALSO not going to turn around and turn him to dust and recover him on loop for refusing to do math or something
With 8-Ball, he's also doing more accountability stuff. He learns to recognize where his faults lie and thus he IS irresponsible. He could do some growing with Leafy and Firey. They def won't tolerate bs with him, but they'd be understanding.
So, like, would you guys say go through with Firey and Leafy on the island?? Have them stay, have them split up after 8-Ball?
What are some of your favorite characters/events/etc you've rewritten?
OOH... Good one!
Characters
Early BFB/TPOT eliminations are up there!
Those guys hold a warm place in my heart. Bracelety, Cake, Saw, Pie, Roboty, Pencil, 8-Ball.
I have a habit of hyper focusing on things so my favorite is a revolving door or tied.
Also characters with ADHD. Two, Bracelety(again), Ruby, and Bottle. Two probably has combined-type ADHD, Bottle'd have predominantly inattentive ADHD, Ruby and Bracelety are predominantly hyperactive ADHD.
All-time/long-time favorites? Book, Bracelety, and Pin respectively. I'm proud of Book's big overhaul, the way I handle Pin at the end of BFDIA, and Bracelety is just great. I squeeze Bracelety until she pops ā„ļø
Events
The overhauled Leafy and Firey argument in post-split BFB. Firey doesn't get to sit there and play victim after ignoring Leafy's existence for years. He was being petty! He was being confusing! He was taking out his anger on others pre-split. Leafy literally isolated herself because she thought she was a horrible person. She SHOWED she was sorry and after Firey treated her like crap.
They've mended their trust and decided to move to a remote island together. That's... not going to go like they want it to. I have plans!
Book leaving FreeSmart behind and her rewritten Pencil callout. Leaving FreeSmart is set to mid-late IDFB for her! It leaves her feeling like shit, worthless... But once she recovers, she realizes she made the right choice -- Book did make the choice to leave, Pencil made it feel like she kicked Book out. It depends on who you ask. Yelling at Pencil gets those feelings OUT. It feels good. She's bolder and healthier then when she leaves in IDFB.
Etc.
QPR Two and Gaty. It's a fleeting thing, but while they were together, Gaty was Two's whole world. When Gaty gets erased, Two falls into a state of deep depression, neglecting themself and spending most of their time in their Domain, away from the world. Bedrotting.
I can then explore grief with Two. I plan on having Saw stay at the hotel once she's free of Two's Domain/the show is over. They'll bond over their loss and heal.
Pin not getting her limbs back doesn't happen, she keeps her mech. Her struggles with identity and expression get funnelled into her decorating her body. Any color, any pattern, and she can change it at any time!
The algebraliens. creatures. They're so eccentric to objects!! They have a completely different mindset surrounding death, they're made to live long lives and defy it! Also im thinking they can enter a sort of torper state, thinking about Two's bedrotting and how Three was clearly out of it when the EXIT gang find xym.
Algebraliens get to have pack behaviors!! Sets! They're social creatures! Isolation is immediately concerning. Being rejected by a whole set is also heartbreaking but possible š
Hello, do you have anything on (8)-Ball please? He's not even one of my blorbos, but I'm still just enamoured by this weird guy with a mouth of molars and the jaw strength of a megalodon.
(I wish I had this in gif form, but I don't, sorry).
YEAH 8-BALL!!! YEAH!!!
I had to look back at my notes for Basketball and Firey Jr for this guy. He needs more love from the redux
He was supposed to have cool uncle vibes. Laid back, chill, and fun, but he lacks a lot of responsibility. He's not cut out to parent either! He's dry & witty.
Applied to join BFB and got in.
He knew Basketball before BFB. They were some level of friends.
Golf Ball appoints herself to leader of A Better Name Than That and Tennis Ball as her co-captain. She has a very rigid and strict leading style. It gets the team wins but ABNTT don't appreciate her bossiness. Nobody agreed to that! And she isn't letting anyone else take the reigns SO...
They simply ignore her and choose a different leader. Someone who's far more laid back. And who volunteers? 8-Ball.
8-Ball confidently steps into the position. He's.. not suited for it. He gets the bare minimum done and approves all the ideas he can. He's NOT suited for the role.
8-Ball does eventually step down after Golf Ball tricks him to give ABNTT her instructions. I think the rest of the team also realizes how bad of an idea it was having 8-Ball in charge and puts Golf Ball back in power.
His BS is recognized by the audience and he does get eliminated! Before then, he apologizes to Golf Ball for undermining her.
Then he gets eliminated and crushed by the moon. It's an accident from Donut, who had gotten a hold on Four's power when the cast tried to stop Four's abuse. When Four and Donut are separated, Four takes 8-Ball to the EXIT.
The EXIT is hell. It's Liy who manages to lockpick previously locked doors, giving the EXITors room to explore.
However, Four's visits are frequent. It takes strategy to explore without getting caught.
8-Ball finds himself getting closest with Dora and Firey Jr. Firey Jr has a strong attitude, the little guy is FULL of opinions and mean words. While 8-Ball is not chaperone or parent material, he finds himself in that position with Dora because no other EXITor seems to really LIKE Firey Jr. They tolerate him, sure, but he causes a lot of problems with Four and it gets on the wider nerves of the EXITors.
So, it's 8-Ball and Dora with a begrudging teenager. He's not quick to trust them.
Dora is also a character 8-Ball bonds with. There's a language barrier, though, because 8-Ball does not speak InsulÄvoric. Dora understands English, but she doesn't speak it.
The only one who speaks InsulÄvoric AND English is David and.. he and Dora are arguing a lot of the time. They have a strained relationship. He's awfully stubborn and begrudging about helping the communication barrier.
So, like 8-Ball does with a lot of conflict, he sits back to see what happens.
That's a lot of his time in the EXIT: keeping an eye on Firey Jr, maintaining a friendship, and FOLLOWING ORDERS.
He lets people who can actually lead give orders. Four's visits become infrequent... The escape is HARD. Everyone almost died that day.
Getting locked up in the hotel was frustrating. They don't stay up for long, Dora gets them out.
Some EXITors want to join a battle for infinite power. Pencil and Liy in particular.
But everyone's distrusting of Two. Sure, they're nice, but what if they ALSO chase down anyone who tries to leave? 8-Ball has seen what an object with all of an Algebralien's power can do. Allegedly, Two has infinitely more power than Four.
What if someone malicious gets that power? Or, someone who me as well but can't control it? Donut meant well. Donut killed 8-Ball and set the moon to collide with Earth.
Urgh, but infinite power is PROMISING. It itches 8-Ball but he won't go for it.
L apparently, Two has them all up for a vote to join.
During an awful storm, the votes are tallied and revealed. 8-Ball doesn't get in, he's sent flying into the atmosphere first.
He's dug out of the sand by Firey and Leafy when they're collecting shells.
I'm trying to keep Firey and Leafy relatively retired now. Their stories have reached decent conclusions, and while there is more to explore with them, they aren't participating in BFDI.
8-Ball gets to be there with them in whatever way. Idk if they're going to leave the island. Maybe when the sky goes dark, to get 8-Ball back. I'm kind've unsure.
However, I gripe with the fact it failed to depict relationships and provide... "in-character" reactions and interactions between certain characters.
It's not super serious, obviously, but my expectations kinda fell flat when Book didn't even share a meaningful/memorable interaction with any of the freesmarters, ESPECIALLY considering this was the first time they were together in like... Years?
Also, as much as I love Pencil, it almost felt like they were playing off her whole "going back in time" plot as a joke. It might have just been a bit for the scene, but considering how TPOT 19 left off on an arguably more serious note, it was definitely a surprise. I really like that we were able to see how she's screwing up already though, lol.
Adding onto that, the (ex)-Freesmarters' reaction to Pencil making that deal felt really underwhelming. If anything they looked mildly upset.
The whole episode was a mess, but I really did enjoy it. I just felt like there were no slow-paced scenes at all, let alone meaningful/impactful ones that really shaped any of the characters, despite the amount of dialogue. It could have been done in a more thought-out manner, with respect to each individual plot without twisting the viewers brain into a knot.
Also, they really, REALLY nerfed One. It was pretty disappointing. Emily did a great job voicing her though, as per usual.
So, yeah. Nice episode. Messy writing. I'll probably return to watch it and analyze some more because, again, this is based on me watching the episode through a fans lens, not a critical one.
YOU GET IT ANON!!! I didn't even consider everything with Pencil, her screen time was so brief! But with fast pacing, a LOT of characters, and several things happening at once... yikes. Yeah.
It will forever break my heart that they nerfed One š„². Scary villain with infinite power beat to the ground by a light switch.
The episode would've benefited from a smaller cast and/or additional time. People'd get impatient with a longer wait but quality over quantity! (Not to mention they have three episodes to explore everything too. I bet they're also about 40 minutes each)
Three isn't in a good headspace. Xy aren't going to beat anyone to death but it's not shocking if they try and scare the EXIT party off. Xy DO care, xy see xyrself as a threat to everyone. Somehting that needs to be contained. Xy would chase them off and then lock xyrself back up.
Three also has a very self-sacrificial mindset. Xy don't care what happens to xym. It's obvious in xyr body, the neglect. Three'll put xymself in harm's way for others. Xy accepted xyr isolation as punishment for xyr actions and One doesn't. Xy's going to hear about One, make comparisons to xymself and assume the awfullest, and then SEE One is worse than xy thought.
We just need to see that transition. Step in Six, who offers forgiveness(that Three turns down), and Bracelety, who offers a heart-to-heart with a very optimistic mindset(that Three thinks on).
"Things will get better! We need your help to make that happen," Bracelety says, holding Three's hand.
Three smiles tenderly, about to interpret Bracelety's words in the worst way possible.
PLEASE!!! SPOILER WARNING!! FOR THE WHOLE OF TPOT 23!!!
[insert one billion more spoiler warnings]
Obligatory spoiler warning here too. If you don't want to be spoiled, don't keep reading!!
WHAT AN EPISODE. I really enjoyed it. It was...
Yeah. Very cluttered, very messy. Everyone's everywhere, characters are getting split up and shuffled around. It's fast-paced, I wish we got to slow down and spend more time with the characters and their thoughts. A lot of the same problems I've noticed with the bigger plot episodes.
Our eliminated contestants are Winner and Liy.
I wasn't sure who to expect to be eliminated beyond Not TB and Grassy. Grassy's been getting big character moments and TB is POPULAR.
Winner did well in TPOT! They took their elimination in stride. I think theyve come a long way this season, a full little story :] It wouldn't hurt to see more of Winner in the future!
Versus...
Liy. Liy this episode was FUN. They really saved some big character development for after her elimination. She served a good role in slowing down One. Watching her fall apart over being eliminated is a good contrast to Winner. She snaps out of it to fight and protect everyone. That is a CONSTANT with her.
TPOT's power scaling can be inconsistent. It grinds my gears a little but WHATEVER. I got a chance to analyze One because of it.
See, she was holding back. She could teleport others to her in the blink of the eye. She could kill EVERYONE in her way but she doesn't. It makes sense if she wants to avoid a repeat of Three. She also acts on her anger and it tends to not make her think about better options. That's what the show's left me with.
But they nerfed her HARD. She could've moved people aside, teleported herself to X??? She could've easily torn through Liy or Winner. Also consider the fact that she willingly erased three objects from existence. Our big scary bad is getting ragebaited a bunch š it's hilarious and the voice acting is phenomenal but they don't make her NEARLY as scary as she was before. Just pathetic.
LIKE I WANT to see a pathetic One. I want it to be kept in mind that she's also incredibly dangerous and all-powerful. What we see out of her a majority is something I'd imagine she's do on her last leg, losing her power; A lot of bluff and trickery.
There's be something cathartic about One either being turned down by Three or Three straight up Not interacting with One, they need to focus on recovery. One would be incredibly devastated. I'm going on a tangent,
Tennis Ball this episode. It's been clear to me the writers weren't doing much with him, they didn't know WHAT to do over the last several episodes. His stuff with the Fourse š„¹. He didn't add much to the show, a lot've crying about Golf Ball when they weren't together. But this episode??? WOW!!
I've been able to sit and enjoy TB more near the end of BFDIA and some this episode. I like seeing him as a competent leader. I like the sass he got at the end of BFDIA. He's a character who's meant to be smart. Trustworthy. His dependency takes a backseat and he locks in. More pls pls
i like the black hole song. i like the exploring space song.
THREE.
Where do I begin???
I LOVE Three. She's bitter and distrusting and traumatized and has been alone for 16 years. And in PAIN. Nobody's checked on them until now. She serves as an antagonist to the EXIT gang and obliterated Fifteen-
Oh.
Yeah I don't see why that was necessary. LIKE, to show that Three was willing to KILL them to be left alone.. but the way the zeroes react.. algebraliens CANT be recovered properly (as far as THEY know). Also the zeroes reaction again was just. Idk, not what I was expecting?? Except for Zro, Zro looks traumatized.
Now, back to Three. THE BOSS FIGHT HOLY SHIT. Six definitely pissed them off. Three isn't going to listen to reason. You need help defeating One?? WELL, she doesn't want to see One. So. No. And also One killed them SO NO.
I loved everything with Three. The music to the disturbing and dreadful aura she had to the voice acting, UGH. GOOD WRITING. GOOD CHARACTER.
Solid episode.
What does this mean for the redux?
Declutter:
I want to scrap One taking Leafy, she has no reason to here. Same with trying to take Firey, as proposed before. Their characters can be retired, their storyline is complete. I'm satisfied with where they are right now. They can get fun side content.
Kill more characters. Be picky and choosy about who's in One's grand finale. I want to focus on characters with stories actively in development, with shit to resolve.
The folks in Two's Domain don't escape the way they do in canon. I'd still like to dedicate TPOT 22 to them, let specific characters out. I bet they'd do a rejoin... I NEED to see Cake or Saw back in.
As usual, eliminations stay the same.
Liy's resolve to fight to protect everyone. In the redux, she kills the Failed Debuters to win the challenge. It's impulsive. She's angry. She tunnel visions on taking out the competition and the Debuters are IN HER WAY. She doesn't let the guilt eat at her until the challenge is over, when she's recovered. If Grassy recovers the Debuters in the redux like he wanted to in canon, they'll be shaken. Liy gets to look at that.
Versus them not being able to be recovered. A: the recovery machine breaks/is missing and they don't know where it is. The world has literally fallen apart. As far as the cast is aware, they can't recover anyone. Price Tag's remote could break.
Then she's eliminated!! She killed those guys because they were in the way, to win the challenge. She has TPOT 21 to think about that. She's eliminated in 23.
Liy's resolves can be extreme, flipflpppy. Everything is looking bad. The world is ending. She's pushed away her friends. However, there's still people left. She's in a low moment and then gets pulled out of it to SAVE THE DAY. She will protect this group with her life.
I drew this once. One and Liy won't be making a deal now... but Liy will be getting her squish in. I'd love a scene where she distracts One. Like, bulldozes into her and squeezes her. She gives her group enough time to GO and we find out squishing One is like chewed gum. I die on that hill ā„ļø
I NEED to dedicate some time to Three. I like xym being an antagonist force who inevitably agrees to help take down One. But it's going to take a LOT of convincing. Three wants to live out xyr punishment in solitude. Being alone for upwards of a decade DOES SHIT. Xy have been stuck with xyr self-hating mindset. It's guilt. Xy's not in the right headspace. Xy don't think xy can be redeemed and want nothing more than to wallow on the floor.
I think Three wouldn't want to see One here either. Hearing One is one a revenge quest... UGH. Why don't they accept their punishment like Three did!? Doesn't she know it's what they had coming??
Three would go "I DONT CARE!! Leave me ALONE."
They won't.
[Boss battle initiated]
*editing here, I looked back on TPOT 20 and realized redux!Three is a lot more self sacrificing. I like that version more but I also want to keep a boss fight. I don't know if redux!Three WOULD do that. Maybe it quickly becomes that self-sacrificing behavior with the disregard for xyr own body. Xy sees what xy could have became in One.
Or no boss fight... FUUUUCK. xy definitely won't be trying to kill anyone tho, just keep them away.
*edit again: maybe it's caused by everyone trying to convince Three that xy are redeemable. Three says NOOOO. Until xy agree to help... Self-sacrifice šļø.
Xy would still be found in a state of disrepair. Xy've neglected xyr well being.
One would be on another rampage. She's far more malicious in the Redux. She's familiar with a fraction of Two's power and now she has ALL OF IT and then some.
People are going to die. She's on a power trip.
She's going to hurt and kill and destroy anyone in her path, anyone who stops her from reaching X. She's EFFECTIVE until she's driven into a blind fury.
I'll go over what I'm imagining for the future in another post. I have a LOT of juicy ideas.
One big thing of this episode is Where TF is Black Hole. "Black Hole, Save Me" is GRAND. It does sum up the episode. Everyone is everywhere, it's chaotic!! Also Black Hole was maintaining the rip in space time. The song would play with clips of the characters Doing things.
The challenge is to defeat One. Two's... trying their hardest to motivate the contestants. For Two, it's channeled justice. I need them to find out from Donut that One deleted Basketball and Barf Bag so they can connect the dots to Gaty.
This or TPOT 24 would give more focus to everything with Three too. I need them out of Four's domain STAT so Three can be there for the final fight. Three realizes they won't leave xym alone and xy just go :'\
I think Braxcelety especially would try to reach out to Three. She did great with a bitter Roboty! But Three is just as, if not even more, stubborn.
With One being defeated BEFORE the season is over, I want to spend the rest of it with nicer challenges and characters getting the chance to process EVERYTHING.
I'd like to get more of a look at the Algebraliens' home planet. TB should be comfortable in her leader role despite anxieties at this point. The others have his back... I just need to figure out HOW they get there.
The typical out of universe Redux BFDI episode is 45 to 60 minutes thanks to the cast size and story. For the Defeat One saga, I'd be willing to bump each episode to 90 minutes.
I personally actually liked that Pencil didnāt want to support Book at first mostly because how it could help set up BFB Book. We know canon BFB Book has severe abandonment issues that she doesnāt seem to have in BFDIA. That means they most likely come from IDFB and I find it incredibly likely (and I personally enjoy the idea) that at some point in IDFB Freesmart, minus Ice Cube, will in someway abandon Book. That would justify why Book both has her abandonment issues and she wants to distance herself from Freesmart.
Pencil showing signs of already not liking Book that much only supports that theory. It would mean whenever Freesmart abandons Book in IDFB it wonāt come out of no where. Plus Book is an alternative, someone Pencil is much less likely to be heavily attached to. In addition I really like the contrast it creates with Ice cube, Ruby, and even Match all supporting Book instead of Needle like Pencil wanted to.
I do acknowledge that may enjoyment of the scene comes from my own predictions on what will happen but I happen to really like those predictions so when something supports them I enjoy it.
Now on the stuff on everyone wanting to kill Leafy. For most of the season 1 cast I actually find it incredibly accurate as in BFDIA 1 basically the entire cast wanted to execute for her crimes. Sure they started to cool off from that extreme opinion but they also just learned Leafy can spawn an evil version of herself that has been constantly tormenting them them the entire competition. With het then randomly appearing at the CaS place with her history of island stealing atleast to me is enough for me to be convinced most of them would be down to perma kill her. Even some of the BFDIA newbies I can definitely see falling to mob mentality. Like I can see Ruby wanting to kill Leafy if Pencil said so. Now what I just said doesnāt apply to everyone but specifically Pin, and TB and itās much harder to justify them also doing it. Now mob mentality is very real but even I donāt think it can fully cover everything. Despite some logical issues though I think I prefer the way canon has bascilaly everyone want to kill Leafy mostly because of the cliff/crane scene. Having additional people, especially someone like Pin, be opposed to killing Leafy feels to me like it would downplay what Firey and Book do. It also makes Firey stealing the farm make less sense and less impactful if others wanted to spare Leafy. I mean why canāt he just team up with the ones who donāt want to kill Leafy instead of stealing the farm.
The paralleled cliff and crane scene is personally by far my favorite scene in the episode. Itās angles, music, lighting, and really everything about it. The characterization isnāt perfect but I wouldnāt change anything a that would make the scene less impactful. I personally am willing to sacrifice some characterization if it makes the ending better and in my opinion it did. I mean itās one of Fireyās best episodes in the entire series and something I think he really needed as a character.
Now this is all my own personal opinion and what you value is probably completely different from what I value, but thatās just how I think about it.
Hey, Anon! Thanks for the perspective! It's a good read.
My Personal thoughts on BFDIA 25
I agree on the cliff/crane scene. BFDIA hit us with beautiful animation and dialogue. I am iffy on the buildup to it but it was well executed. It makes it clear that Firey doesn't want Leafy dead, though he pushes her away -- it's NEVER as far as permanent death. I was rooting for him!!
Book sparing Leafy was heartwarming. It really does add up with how kind Book is. She could have defended Leafy but the crowd would have turned on her. PLUS the people she cares so much about being for killing Leafy.
I hope IDFB shows the transition to Book's abandonment issues getting as extreme as they are in BFB.
When it comes to the characterization -- I'm sure there could be an ending that keeps everyone consistent. Who knows?
i know loads of people {including myself lmao} have said this but i personally think a major issue with bfdia {really a lot of the show but bfdia and more specifically characters like pin are affected the most} is that it was originally supposed to just be comedic but then when serious arcs started to happen the writers still tried to keep it lighthearted and funny, which kinda ruined a lot of charactetization and flandarized a lot of characters imo?
like pins characterization was mostly fine up until the end of bfdia 21, and then they started to like. just make her a comedic relief most of the time? and not pay attention to her serious arc that hasnt really gotten closure?? shes the one ive seen the most as shes my favorite character and i pay attention to her the most but theres almost definitely some characters who have also been affected by this lmao,,,
YEAH. Canon silly and comedy seems to have an effect on their characters.
The way canon treated Pin hurts my soul
Like, they've built up this big arc around a traumatized, angry character and how she's constructed high walls around herself. How she was HURT and I feel like she should not be so forgiving of Coiny so quickly. She ends up just going on about how beautiful she is and that's about the extent of it
I dare say Gelatin too. You go into BFDIA and he's got a grounded personality and then the hiatus hits. They bring BFB in, silly and goofy season that's supposed to be reminiscent of season one, and Gelatin's lost all character in favor for being a comedy guy. They don't bother showing that transition when BFDIA returns, he's immediately silly fun goober.
Leafy's been.. interesting. Like, I still don't think the WHOLE cast would be up for chasing and KILLING her forever. Looking at TB. I know he had his moments of taking things too far this season but perma death doesnt feel up his alley. It makes sense to me that Firey doesn't. He wants her to go away, but he doesn't want her dead.
BFDIA 25 is here. And with it, a review and reconstruction.
SPOILERS FOR BFDIA 25 AHEAD!! PREPARE YOURSELF!
SPOILERS FOR BFDIA 25!
Ok. Last spoiler warning.
Here we go!
BFDIA 25: She Deserves This
A poetic title! I like that it could have several different meanings. It could be Leafy deserving death or Book or Needle deserving to win. I will keep that interpretation for the winners in the redux!
I will say this episode was SUPER funny. I had a good laugh at the wrong finger scene. BFDIA never disappoints me with the jokes. Also, the animation quality continues to be impeccable. They've been going all out on BFDIA for the last year.
We have Pin trading her pigment for new limbs what I think is Golf Ball's lab? Evil Leafy is also there, frozen. They come to the conclusion that Leafy and Evil Leafy are connected and -- yes! Evil Leafy is summoned when Leafy is feeling immense anguish or distress.
Coiny thaws EL to ask questions and EL prepares to kill. Golf Ball stops this, freezing EL, and then Pin kills her. Good going! Pin wants to summon an evil version of herself when she's upset and I Can't blame her, this season has not been good for her š
They track Leafy to prevent another EL and go to the final Cake at Stake arena! The new remix for the Cake at Stake song is fine but I personally prefer Nice To Know.
There's a new arena! And I'm gonna say it: the Twin Stars felt very lackluster. They spent a huge part of BFDIA 24 on it, and use the Twin Stars in BFDIA 25. That's a side tangent for another day;;;
Eliminated contestants vote on who THEY want to win, which amounts to a tie and then nothing because their votes don't count. I think it would've been cool if they kept the votes, it wouldn't change who the winner ended up being.
I liked that Tennis Ball had an attitude. I've never been a fan of him but that endeared me!
I wish they treated Evil Leafy with more care. Is she difficult to beat or not? What's stopping Leafy from feeling stressed and summoning EL all over again? We never see EL in BFB or TPOT, so I hope they tackle her in IDFB. Needle rips her in half and that's it
I've also noticed Pin's obsession with her mech suit. The symbol of the identity she had stripped from her? She hated it. Pin š
Spongy being a character who just keeps getting weight jokes. Oh he's fat so he tires easy!!! He's fat that's the joke! Stop. I am full of rage for the guy. He reveals that he does a lot of sports and even tight rope in BFB. Cary said he can walk 10,000 miles before getting tired and that might just be a Tiktok comment but I'll soak it up.
Also EVERYONE being out to kill Leafy over stealing Dream Island. Except for Firey, he actually distracted everyone to keep Leafy safe by stealing the farm chunk, the BFDIA Dream Island. I have my gripes with the chase lasting so long but it provided good dialogue for some objects.
I don't think the whole cast would've been after Leafy like that. Nickle being against the death penalty is great. He's always seemed like a good coin!! And maybe another opportunity to explore identity...
The idea of making Leafy impossible to recover :C TB being the person out of everyone to follow through with such a thing is like. Damn. What the hell dude
Our winner??
BOOK!!
I have been rooting for her. She's an underdog who tries, fails, and gets by thanks to viewer votes. Even with those around her doubting her, backstabbing her for the game, and loss after loss, she keeps trying and she wins. Needle is cool with it, GGs.
I wish Pencil showed more support for Book. I like Match doing it! Pencil LOVES her FreeSmarters and Needle left to win for herself. Book, on the other hand, has been desperate for support.
Book volunteered to kill Leafy and spared her in secret. Told Leafy to get out because everyone wanted her dead, tried to convince Leafy to give up Dream Island for some hope or the cast liking her again and Leafy refused. I don't blame Leafy for that lowkey cuz Firey was TRASHHHH to her in that s1 finale
Needle makes a bag of memories. Firey ends up put in a cage and in there šdamn. Anyway, they all travel to Yoylecity to stay and perfectly set up IDFB. Book sees Leafy in Yoylecity too, freaks out, and ends up touring with Needle.
I would've liked for more strong scenes. The acting is good and the jokes are well timed. I'd appreciate a greater finale in general but for what BFDIA 25 is, I enjoyed it! Better than BFB. It took 13 years but they did it.
What does this mean for the redux?
Evil Leafy is not summoned by Leafy's anguish alone. EL is her own thing, a force of nature. She and Fries have a continued story in IDFB.
BOOK STILL WINS! Pencil is in full support of Book and will hold that over Book's head. She keeps herself in control.
Pin isn't going to be attempting to kill Leafy. She's already tried to shake her off but Leafy remains persistent and, importantly, a shoulder for Pin to lean on.
Speaking of, Pin keeps her accommodations! She's not getting her limbs back. Instead, Pin finds a new way to express her identity via getting her pigment removed and decorating herself. She has to swim through all of her problems first -- and see that she isn't as alone as she thought she was.
Announcer would show up for this episode. He's fresh off of BFDIE and wants to see the winner for himself.
Needle is trying to distance herself from FreeSmart. It will ultimately come back around to her in IDFB, but for now, she's independent -- and maybe taking her actions too far as she learns how to be independent and still rely on others. It will shape her up to be a strong leader.
ALSO Pin, Coiny, and Needle sorting through their shit. They'll all end up on neutral-good terms by the end and sitting down and talking. Then good terms and friends throughout IDFB and going forward.
I want some people to finally come to their senses on how they hurt Pin. Not just folks who were on WOAH Bunch. I'm looking at Icecube, who might just be the only member of FreeSmart to do so. It adds to Icecube going against Pencil, who would NOT apologize because targeting Pin was just for the game to Pencil, and also Icecube's ability to take accountability and recognize injustice. It would be good to lead to Pin apologizing to some others too. I'm thinking Book and that's it. Pin won't deny how she was still wronged at the end of the day either -- IMPORTANT.
Book was killed brutally so much the whole season. That DRILL. There's no justification for the way Pin was hurt and by others there's no justification for the way Book was hurt by Pin. Only explanation, not excuses. Full circle. Others would have to earn Pin's forgiveness, but a lot would eventually understand and forgive her too. Somehting like that I hope I'm not overexplaining
I think Pin would also be able to recognize Pencil's BS but Book wouldn't listen.
The whole cast won't be trying to kill Leafy. She had friends in Gelatin and Pin. I'd like to include others in that but a lot of folks find her REALLY intense. She is!! But it's not her deliberately trying to be a pain. She wants friends. She doesn't want to be alone.
I like Nickle being confident in who he is. He wears any modifications like a champ. I'd also like to focus on the mood swings that come with ADHD with him and how he regulates it. Make him less silly lolol comedic character. Shamelessly himself. Let him and Ruby get along too!
Canon TB having an attitude will translate to redux TB. It'd give his character some spice and I've been STRUGGLING with her.
MORE emotional scenes. Also Announcer downplaying the seriousness of the season in the background, give it the patented "silly and fun times" others look back to it as. Nobody was suffering wdym??? Stressing??? Who??
I like the ultimate transition to Yoylecity. Redux will have something similar!! But Leafy won't be in hiding.
ALSO LOLers won't be stuck in the LOL. If they didn't debut as contenders in the season, they aren't there. I don't know why Bubble and Flower are yet
VOTES from eliminated contestants will count. It doesn't affect the overall win so I'm here for it.
