I got a request to draw sumn exitor coiny au related so. here’s a wip. Ignore the size inconsistency I only noticed after i merged all these layers that the sizes were messed up. Also i’m pretty sure i didn’t use the right material chairs. Whatever
So basically, in this au, the show is just that. A show. All the characters are actors and have well… actual lives outside of the show. This is basically just a list of character headcannons, plus a few headcannons for the show in general.
Au summary: Nothing on the show is real. It’s all… well, a show. The show airs on television regularly. Everything is scripted, and most of the objects’ real personalities don’t really line up with their show personas. Everyone is an actor, and they all have their own lives outside of the show. It started off with BFDI, where viewers could go onto the show’s website and vote off characters. As the show got more popular, they were greenlit for more seasons, and more characters were added.
Headcanons under the cut (it’s a lot of text, so be warned!)
-nobody really knows what 8-Ball does when he’s not on-set. He just sort of… disappears… when he’s not on-screen, and so far, nobody has figured out where he goes. He’s never been in the break room, and he’s never in the recording area when he’s not being filmed, but nobody ever sees him leave the studio, and he always seems to come back right when he’s needed. About a third of the crew are convinced that he’s some sort of ghost that can disappear at will
-Loser wasn’t actually famous before joining the show. It’s a joke that the cast and crew have been keeping up since BFB 1, and when questioned about it, they usually start naming movies that he was in and songs that he wrote. Movies and songs that don’t actually exist, mind you. So far, nobody has slipped up when it comes to the joke, and they actually had the fandom fully convinced that Loser was a big-time actor for a while.
-originally, Basketball’s character was a boy, but between BFDI and BFDIA, Basketball came out as trans, and her character was changed to be a girl. When asked about why her character’s gender was changed in interviews, the cast simply pretends to be confused, saying that her character was always a girl. Basketball is very happy about this.
-the word ‘snatch’ has been permanently banned from set as it, without fail, sends the entire cast into uncontrollable laughter, which, when it finally stops, is usually started up again by somebody once again saying the word
-Nickel’s role as a debuting character in BFDI actually got the attention of another up-and-coming show, and landed him a spot in inanimate insanity. His ability to switch between his two characters as easily as he can makes everyone wonder how much of his personality outside of the two shows is also an act
-Cloudy is known to steal people’s props and put them in a large pile when the cameras aren’t rolling
-Balloony’s whole ‘salt and vineger’ bit came from when he accidentally thought that a bowl of fake vomit was chip dip, and spent three days dipping his chips in it before somebody told him what it actually was, to which he promptly said that it would be an easy mistake for anybody to make, since it “tastes like salt and vinegar”
-Fanny’s original actor died of cancer part-way through the filming of BFDIA, and while her replacement actor had the voice, she did not have the looks. The crew knew that they needed an in-universe explanation for her sudden change in appearance, so they came up with the upgradificafion laser. It also gave them the excuse to mess around with some of the costumes and update some of the character’s looks, since BFDIA had a bigger costume budget than BFDI
-Four, Two and X are actually just costumed objects. They were originally animated characters in an old school project that Firey had made, but once BFB was in production, and they needed new hosts, Firey offhandedly mentioned the animation, and the directors loved it, so they made some costumes, hired some actors, and bam, Four and X were created
-building off of the previous headcannon, different actors will often put on the algebranian costumes and go on set, trying to see how long it takes for the filming crew to realize what’s going on. The longest anybody’s been able to hold the act is 4 hours. It was a long filming day, and Liy lost a bet and had to put on the Four costume and see how long she could fool the film crew. She had already been eliminated by that point, so nobody questioned the fact that she was missing. She imitated his voice almost perfectly, and eventually got the screech right. She could have gone for longer, but eventually somebody informed the crew that Four’s usual actor was sick and unable to make it to filming, promptly ending Liy’s adventure. (And her access to the costume room)
-Dora wasn’t actually hired by the studio. Nobody quite knows how she became a character, but most people say that she wandered on set one day, and the directors thought that she was an actor, so they keep filming. Eventually, somebody realized that she wasn’t supposed to be there, and she was promptly kicked out of the studio. However, by the time that someone realized, the episode was already due to air, and they begrudgingly had to track her down and bring her back once the voting results for the recommended contestants came in.
-Rocky was known for being sick during filming weeks, and a few of the times that he vomited in the show were real. He even had laryngitis for a while, and had to do some of the early episodes unable to talk, hence the inconsistency with his character’s speaking abilities.
-Woody’s injury in BFDI 1a wasn’t planned, and was actually a real injury that he sustained on set. He managed to keep in character during filming, and though everyone thought that the injury was too graphic to be shown on a kids show, due to the tight schedule of the show, and the time that Woody spent recovering from the injury, they were unable to re-film the scene and kept it in.
-Pen is actually an identical triplet, and sometimes when he is unable to come during a filming day, the directors will call over one of his siblings to play his part. There’s actually a few scenes in TPOT 1 where he has a mole on his arm. This is because he was on a vacation during filming, so one of his siblings was playing his part. However, the directors forgot that the mole was there, and had already filmed the entire episode by the time anybody noticed. (Don’t check the episode, there’s no mole, I made this up for the purpose of the headcannon. Also, this is an au)
-IDFB is a ‘lost episode’ of sorts. Back when BFDIA was still in production, there was a rumour going around about some of the actors doing drugs off-set, and the show was put on hiatus. Everyone was afraid that the studio was going to cancel the show, so the directors partnered with a different company to make a new season called IDFB. However, the controversy was disproven, and BFDIA was taken off its hiatus. When this happened, only one episode of the new season was filmed, IDFB 1, and it never aired. IDFB had basically no marketing since the studio that was filming it was small and didn’t have the budget for marketing, so the public was in the dark about IDFB. Until recently. During an interview, Ruby’s actor accidentally mentioned the cut season, and the fandom did what fandoms always do, and searched for the episode. The ‘lost episode’ was eventually dug up by the internet, and many consider it to be canon to the BFDI universe, despite the actors, and even the directors themselves saying otherwise.
-Pin and Coiny’s friendship arc was supposed to start all the way back in BFDI, but since Pin got eliminated so early, they cut the arc, but ultimately decided to bring it back when BFDIA went into production
-all the recommended contestants were smalltime actors at the time of their debut, and since the show wasn’t as popular at the time, they were supposed to be one-off characters that never returned, but once the show got greenlit for more seasons, the directors decided to bring them back rather than finding new actors
-Golfball is really down-to-earth off set, and doesn’t really like her character, but it was the only job that she could get at the time, and with the popularity the show got, she didn’t have the option of quitting
-Teardrop’s character wasn’t supposed to be mute, but since her actor is, they were originally going to have her mouth her lines and have a voice actor go over them in editing, but with the small budget that BFDI had at the time, they decided to just keep her mute and edit the lines a little
-Blackhole actually does have limbs, but the role required a flying object without limbs, so he just tucks them in when it comes time to film
-Stapy and Foldy actually dislike/borderline hate eachother, and won’t go near each other outside of filming
-Tree doesn’t actually have an Australian accent. It started out as an inside joke between friends, but when he accidentally said one of his lines with the accent, the directors loved it and made it part of his character
-Marker’s ‘Donut’s a vampire too!?’ Wasn’t in the script. He wasn’t even supposed to be on set. He had just wandered in, looked at one of the cameras, saw that Donut wasn’t showing up on the film, and accidentally blurted it out.
-the joke of Tennisball’s clumsiness started as a joke between all the actors because he kept tripping on all the set pieces, and when it happened during filming, they just rolled with it and kept going
-Eraser and Leafy were originally swapped, but when acting out BFDI 1a, the directors found that they would fit eachother’s characters better rather than their own (personality-wise at least), so they swapped part-way through rehearsing the episode. This is why Eraser slowly floats down onto the bed of nails, because it was originally going to be Leafy, but when they swapped, the directors kept the scene the same despite the oddness.
-Fries isn’t actually a package of fries. He’s just a box, but the directors thought that a character that was just a box was boring, so they made a ‘fry box’ costume and some foam fries, and henceforth, Fries was born.
-Bubble’s ‘YOYALCAKE!’ Wasn’t in the script. She was supposed to say, ‘Awesome!’ But forgot her line and just yelled the first thing that came to mind. It was pure coincidence that Leafy had some yoyalcake on her from their earlier lunch break, but she thought that it was too good a gag to pass up on, and instead of cutting it, they kept in the scene, and Bubble will never live the humiliation down
-one of the most expensive scenes in the whole show was in TPOT [whatever the fuck episode had all the bodies in the lake. I think it was 5] it was the scene with all of Freesmart’s bodies in the canal. They had to hand-make all the bodies since they were so clear in the camera, so it’d be easy for the viewers to tell if they were fake, so they had to be hyper-realistic. They didn’t do the same in BFDIA though. In that scene, since the budget was so small, and since the shot was so wide, they simply had the characters drive the van infront of a green screen while the background was a painting of the bodies at the bottom of the canal.
-Yellowface isn’t actually a character. Like- none of what he does is an act, he’s just like that, and nobody can really explain it
-of all the characters, only two actually have their own fashion line, Flower (who could have guessed) but also Match. Match always wanted to run a fashion business, and being on the show gave her the money and infamy that she needed to kickstart the project.
-Pencil actually really enjoyed being in school, and accidentally ruined a few good takes of some of the EXIT scenes because she was smiling too much.
-in BFB 1, in the scene where Fanny gets electrocuted, she was supposed to be replaced by a fake dummy with a voice box that would play her screaming when activated by Lightning’s electricity, and then show up later in the episode perfectly fine. But here’s the thing, since the camera was going to be focused on her for so long, the dummy was built to be hyper-realistic, and during one of the takes, the dummy got a bit wreaked, and Fanny just happened to sit down where the dummy was, and then the cameras started rolling and… I think that you can guess where this is going. It’s safe to say that Fanny’s scenes later in the episode were cut
-Two’s actor isn’t actually British, but sometimes they’ll mess up and start talking in a British accent off set. Some people have a betting pool on how many times they’ll slip up in a given week
-Due to long filming days, Clock’s hands are usually never in the same place, even within the same scene, so he has to be constantly winding his hands around so that every episode is consistent when it comes to time, but sometimes he’ll forget to set himself back to the correct time, and will often go days without realizing that he’s set to the wrong time
-Grassy is constantly drinking water off-set because the voice that he has to do dries the living hell out of his mouth
-Spongey actually keeps himself very clean and in good condition since, being a kitchen sponge, it’s very easy for any hint of dirt to quickly turn into a colony of mould, so Spongey likes to make sure to wash himself thoroughly and often.
-At the beginning of the show, they couldn’t afford stunt-doubles, so everyone had to do their own stunts, resulting in a few on-set injuries. But even when the budget got bigger and they could get stunt-doubles for everyone, Needle insisted on doing her own stunts, saying that it felt more authentic, and she actually enjoyed doing most of the stunts that she did
-Bomby has never exploded in the studio outside of planned explosions during filming, and he intends to keep it that way (and so does everybody else)
-Firey Jr’s real name is Spark, and if anybody ever calls him Firey Jr outside of filming, he will go absolutely feral on them, like- he hates being called Firey Jr
-During BFB 2, it was discovered that Flower was actually allergic to one of the ingredients in the jawbreakers, and her tongue swelled up so much that that day’s filming had to be cut short because she needed to go to the hospital. They decided to use a fake jawbreaker for the scenes that she was in afterwards
-there wasn’t actually a reason that Donut specifically was given the power of Four. The scriptwriters couldn’t decide who to give the power to, so they decided to write everybody’s names on slips of paper and draw a name out of a hat, and whoever was drawn would get the power, and all they had to do then was figure out how they’d get the power in the first place
-Sometimes, if they’re on a set with a fence, Gaty will replace the fence gate with herself and wait until somebody notices (the longest she’s gone undiscovered was 45 minutes)
-on one of the walls in the break room, there’s a constantly updating list of who messed up the most lines, and which lines took the most takes to get right. The top three fluctuate, but it’s usually some combination of Blocky (he laughs at his own lines so much), Lightning (most forgetful person on the planet), Tree (he keeps forgetting to do his accent), Ruby (same reason as Blocky, she can not take herself seriously), and Book (if she has literally any slip-up, even if it’s unnoticeable enough to not ruin the take, she just starts making random noises, ruining the take anyways)
-Evil leafy isn’t actually an actor, she’s just Leafy in a costume. She also doesn’t actually appear on set; the editors have a file full of photos of her shot from different angles and in different lighting conditions, and they just add her in when it comes time to edit the footage. There was a time where they forgot to add her in, and the episode almost aired without her in it
-Pen, Eraser, Blocky and Snowball have a joint account on [insert relevant social media platform here] where they pretend to be a fan of the show, and they find people who make fun of others for liking the show and roast them to hell and back
-The eliminated contestants often get to watch the episodes before they air as a live audience, and sometimes even watch the episodes as they’re being filmed
-in the recurring gag where a character flies over a really long stretch of land with a bunch of weird props and settings in the background, 99% of the time, the character is just moving infront of a green screen (sometimes on a treadmill that gets edited out), and the background is a painting made by one of the film crew
-Puffball is actually yellow, but since she debuted later in the show when they had a bigger costume budget, she had a choice on whether or not to make herself look different for the show. She decided to dye herself pink since she “always wanted to be a different colour, and pink is a good colour to be”
-Yoyal city is a real place, and it isn’t actually abandoned. Many people live there, including a good chunk of the actors. They just section off an area and block the roads when they need to film. All overhead shots of the city are actually just shots of a small, scaled down model of the city. Because of the show’s popularity, the city has become a bit of a tourist attraction, with many shops opening up selling things related to the show, and there’s even tours that go over all the places that were shown in the show. Eventually, over time, so much of the city changed from what it originally was that they had to stop filming there due to consistently issues, and now use a few large sets of some of the areas in the city whenever they need to film a scene that takes place there
-Lightning is actually a very skilled cameraman, and is often behind one of the cameras if he’s not in the scene itself, and he continued to work with the film crew after he got eliminated
-Firey, Liy, Flower, Tennisball, Stapy, and Coiny have all been in several movies and other film projects outside of the show, with Stapy even working on his own movie
-When she debuted, Naily had pretty good eyesight, but it slowly worsened over time, and she had to get glasses. However, by the time that she got her glasses, BFB was already in full swing, so she wore contacts when filming. Sometimes, she would run out of contacts, and had to film while barely being able to see 4 feet infront of her, and she’d often mess up a take by tripping on something or running into something. It didn’t happen often, but it happened enough that there’s an entire reel of footage purely made up of her running into random objects because she couldn’t see where she was going.
-Eraser is missing one of his teeth, and if anyone were to ask, he’d say that it was from when he fought a bear (he has never even been within 50 feet of a bear), but in reality, it was because Needle slapped him a bit too hard during one of her ‘don’t call me needy’ takes and the tooth just popped right out
-Pen actually manages money and finances really well, but he thought that it would be really funny if his character was in crippling debt, so the scriptwriters managed to slot it in.
-Blocky, Eraser, Pen and Snowball barely knew eachother when the show started, but over time, due to the amount of time that they spent interacting within the show, they started to become good friends outside of the show, and hang out regularly.
-One’s costumed actor originally started out as an on-site medic, but eventually, everybody realized that she had a knack for acting, and she managed to get a spot in the show. She is nothing like her actual character (she cried and apologized profusely after accidentally hitting Donut with a lamp in one of her scenes) and is glad that she is a costumed character due to not wanting to deal with the problems with being famous.
-the scriptwriters have eternal beef with Coiny because he never says any of his lines correctly. Half of his lines on the show are ad-libs of his actual lines and it never fails to make the scriptwriters (who work hard on the importance of wording and meaning in the lines) angry.
-Nearly half of the show’s lore has come from somebody randomly going ‘hey, wouldn’t it be crazy if [thing] happened?’ And everybody just rolls with it and it eventually becomes canon.
-Bracelety has been known to wear an egregious amount of costume pieces off set, and actually works with the costume team. If there’s a costume in the show, then chances are, she’s either made it or tried it on a billion times. Many fans speculate that she created the algebranian costumes. This theory has yet to be proven right by the show’s creators, but so far nobody has proven it wrong either.
-Flower was never supposed to have a character arc, but since she kept getting safe in eliminations, the creators decided that it was about time they gave her character some closure.
Goodness, that’s a lot of writing. I’ve had this in my notes for months, forgot about it for a while, and then decided to post it because why not.
I was back and forth on Leafy or Firey being taken by One. I eventually decided against it. Earlier this year, I became the same way with them settling on their own Dream Island.
Their stories are majorly over when it comes to contests. They're retired from competition after BFB. Their time in the spotlight is over.
But I see potential!! A spin-off series of shorts.
Leafy is impulsive and intense, Firey is airheaded and petty. Leafy has understanding and Firey has accountability. They're both stubborn.
By all means, they should clash. They DO clash!! But they can also reconcile. It's what they do in BFB after a serious discussion, then they built trust.
My biggest problem, what REALLY makes me want to not go through with their Dream Island, is the fact that Leafy literally went into isolation over the guilt she felt buying Dream Island from Announcer because Firey wouldn't let her on. Firey ignored her and pretended he didn't know her for about 5 years. Gelatin and Leafy BOTH tried to mend that friendship in IDFB!! Dude!!
I know some people are able to move on from that, somehow, or at least see past it. Forgive but not forget. But idk..
Moving onto a remote island together could be a choice of passion and impulsivity. Trying to prove to the other that they're going to do well together as friends again.
I WANT to explore the struggles they have if I do stick with Dream Island. Arguments between them are loud and frustrating on both sides. They'd both have to take a short break from the other before talking things out. Firey would be trying to prove he's changed and Leafy would be in a forgive but don't forget mindset.
I'm thinking 8-Ball could be the catalyst to them moving back to mainland. Realizing it's kind've a breath of fresh air to N O T be stuck with each other on the island.
On the other hand, living together platonically and happily for the rest of their lives...
Even if him showing up DOESNT cause them to move away from each other, 8-Ball would probably appreciate the help getting back to mainland. He'd be worried about Dora and Firey Jr.
God now I'm actually imaging queerplatonic polycule Firey/Leafy/8-Ball this has to be the randomest thing I've ever come up with. Funniest shit to possibly put in redux. ANYWAY,
Firey and Leafy would expect help from him but only AFTER recovering from any injuries, and also assuming he's well off enough mentally to help. The duo are going to have questions about him flying out of a storm onto their beach 💀 while they're collecting seashells.
He might find peace away from the competition. He would go back to land. MAYBE return to the island if offered, I can see him participating in another season if it's not hosted by an algebralien. He's at his limits with them.
He'd ALSO get to bear witness to Firey and Leafy's conflicts. He tends to sit back for that kind've stuff. It also keeps him from accidentally getting their ire, he's learned it's better not to piss off already angry people. He's rolling on eggshells thanks to Four.
Firey and Leafy would also be good to help 8-Ball with healing. As intense as they both get they're ALSO not going to turn around and turn him to dust and recover him on loop for refusing to do math or something
With 8-Ball, he's also doing more accountability stuff. He learns to recognize where his faults lie and thus he IS irresponsible. He could do some growing with Leafy and Firey. They def won't tolerate bs with him, but they'd be understanding.
So, like, would you guys say go through with Firey and Leafy on the island?? Have them stay, have them split up after 8-Ball?
He still doesn't have a favorite number. He really doesn't
Lore: 8-Ball lost an eye while he, Firey, David, and Dora were escaping Bandland. So, to compensate for this, Tennis Ball gave him a mechanical eye that, while it can't translate things into accurate colors, can give stats on anyone when those stats are requested. Neat.
Yeah, I don't really have much lore for 8-Ball since he wasn't there during the final fight and refuses to contribute to society.
