ok. ok. hear me out. my head canon is that like malcolm has a form of autism. i also have autism so i might be projecting but i see a ton of my neurodivergent traits in him.

no no, i agree! my brother is autistic so i noticed a lot of traits too!! tom said that when they were filming the pilot, they filmed different versions of scenes with malcolm in different ways and one of them was autistic and he continued to play malcolm with autistic traits throughout the rest of the show. i honestly think it’s so cool and was such a positive reflection of autism (despite all his other trauma) because autism has not been portrayed positively in media.
