Today I was reminded of my "reblog ALL the tigers" tag.
(Thanks, @inkedscribbles!)
My emotions about space travel, and the history of, are strong today.
Nothing makes you feel more like turning into the Joker than seeing your third “They Won’t Commit to Defunding ICE” post about a Democrat who absolutely does support defunding ICE coming from one of the same 3 Only Posts Twitter Screenshots tumblr site (usually despidase) of the week getting thousands of notes, knowing that this is the exact playbook used by Russia against Hillary Clinton, and knowing that if you pointed that out, some Tumblr users will tell you that all those Russian agents were really real people who all followed the same playbook of posting Twitter screenshots of curated memes from Twitter that slowly added in more and more misinformation and disinformation about Democrats leading up to an election and then promptly disappear after the election happens.
I have seen so many people on tumblr in steadfast denial that any tumblr users could have possibly been Russian agents.
And it's so frustrating because it stems from people struggling to hold two different ideas in the head:
That there were valid criticisms of Clinton. (Or any other Democrat.)
That an intelligence agency would use a mix of valid criticisms and misinformation to manipulate them.
Because nobody wants to feel like they were manipulated! If one admits to being manipulated, that means they'd have to reexamine their objections, and maybe those don't all hold up. And that can elicit unpleasant feelings that aren't fun to feel.
But refusing to accept that you could be manipulated makes you real easy to manipulate.

Look, it's simple. If a person has to actively work to make money, they're not "the rich" and they're not the problem. A surgeon making $200k a year still stops making money if they stop showing up to do surgery, because they're still selling their labor. The radical discrepancies in how we value different skills are certainly a problem, but the guy who makes money when he doesn't even get out of bed is the one making money on the value of other people's labor.
Time for my favorite chart!
Notice billions ain't even on there. Outliers something something.
Pleased to learn that the FoxTrot guy has gone the polar opposite direction from the Dilbert guy.
You can only reblog this today.
worldbuilding tips
populations and peoples don’t just suddenly change at a border marker. cultures interact and blend.
there are usually a multitude of cultures in one place, and religions often have different factions within them
what are the differences between the upper and lower classes? is there a lower class? what system is used? fuedalism? capitalism? communism?
how does your society view and deal with poverty?
think about the diaspora. invent a large population of immigrants. why are they there? how long have they lived there? how does their culture now differentiate from their homeland?
languages. is there a global lingua franca (a language that people use to speak internationally. historically this has been latin and french, and right now, english)? if so, why That One? are there smaller lingua francas within different nations?
a large country will almost always have smaller languages within it. put some in. you don’t even have to name them, just have someone mention that they often have to translate for their parents
the lingua franca will usually be the language of the majority, but not always. if a particular ethnic group has control of the government, and therefor education, then that language will probably become more widespread. although sometimes there are “official languages” and “daily languages”
i could write a whole other post about languages honestly
what things do different cultures see as beautiful? is it eyes? hair? what parts of the body are considered scandalous. are the bodies of men and women seen differently? how do people feel about breasts?
how is makeup used? is it daily? is it ceremonial? do different colours and patterns have meanings or is purely for aesthetic? is it seen as gendered?
basically just don’t take everything in your culture as the “norm.” there is no norm. the world is weird.
learn about other cultures in our own world. please.
Last one is probably most important!

It's my 17 year anniversary on Tumblr 🥳
You know what? I don't want to change my VPN every six months cause it was caught selling information. I don't want to go deep into the settings of every website I so much as look at. I don't want my internet browsing to be a constant leap through hoops so that companies can't do things which should be illegal anyway. I want privacy to be the default and for it to be difficult to take it away, not the other way around. Is that too much to ask?
