sometimes i talk about how awful it was to feel trapped by my daily makeup routine and how i couldn’t leave the house without putting on a full face and it played a major role in the misery of my high school experience because i had to spend so much extra time getting ready in the mornings and that followed me into my early 20s as well and it was hell and it was so incredibly liberating to go through the slow and uncomfortable but ultimately essential process of getting my bare face back and having makeup be an optional accessory instead of a mandatory uniform. and the response always tends to be ah yes of course, because of your trans and your masculine. and it’s like aha so close! actually! I think if I ended up being a feminine cis woman I also still would not deserve even a second of that shit! I think trans women and nonbinary people and every human alive should have the option to leave the house without a single cosmetic product ever touching their face! but thanks for playing!

Intelligent alien species based on bugs but specifically those moths that don’t have mouths and only live for a week after they pupate. This species’ whole conscious life is actually in the larval phase; larvae are the ones considered people, larvae are the ones with conscious and complex brains who build society, and each instar of the larva is treated as a different phase of life. Larvae become emotionally and socially and cognitively mature without ever becoming sexually mature. When they pupate, they metamorphose into something different and strange and close to mindless, with no mouth and no digestive system, whose only instincts are to mate and then quickly die. Metamorphosis is treated, functionally, like a person’s death, and the imago phase is a kind of proto-afterlife of majestic flight and the continuation of the species. Birth and death inextricably intertwined. Sex is not something people do during their lives, it’s a thing that is done as an imago after you’ve passed on from your life but before you return to the soil in death. Resultant eggs are collected by family members to raise. I think this would be fun.

current obsession: Kind of in a rut right now :( but I've been kind of obsessed with playing Anthropeum in the morning, it's so fun! I'm also watching the Witch Hat Atelier anime, but I'm only a few episodes in. The animation is soooo good though omg
currently reading: I'm reading Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy (very slowly, it's good but not a page-turner imo). I just finished The Song of Achilles which I LOVED. And I'm listening to the audiobook of the Protector of the Small series by Tamora Pierce for nostalgia while I do chores and stuff!
currently working on: I'm taking a large-scale animal portrait class this weekend and I'm gonna paint a big owl!! Right now I'm collecting reference images and doing little sketches of compositions.

favorite flower: ahhhh I studied botany and love so many flowers so this is an impossible question!!! But let's see, today I saw a soaptree yucca blooming and it was gorgeous- huge flowers. I also love mariposa lilies, it's so exciting to see them when I'm doing fieldwork! Also love graminoid flowers, I love the open airy shape of Indian ricegrass and the pattern on Carex aquatilis! Ooh and cotton grass is so whimsical! Okay stopping now!!
