“Stay with us,” Katherine begged, grasping both of Race’s hands. “I don’t want you going to Brooklyn at this hour.” Nor was he in a fit state to go anywhere after the argument he and Spot Conlon had had. He needed a warm meal, a soft bed, and care. He often skimped on all three of those things. “Please. You know how I worry about you.”
"I ain't gonna be a burden on anyone's. Th' fight was my fault anyways." Race refused to make himself someone else's problem. It was bad enough that he'd come to Jack and Katherine's place at this hour, and nearly woke the little Princess they now had to deal with.
there is a lack of transgender/nonbinary characters in the rpc to say the least so this blog is an attempt to counter that!! i’m in love with race’s power stance.
Jack Kelly's Snapchat Story
Race: *sitting inside an actual crib* Hello MTV, welcome to my crib!
Jack: *barely suppressed hysterical laughter*
Katherine: *coming into the room* What. The actual fuck.
"Ya makin' a big deal outta nothin' Plumbs." Race was still there, planning to spend the night on Katherine's couch, a nice shiner on left eye. "It ain't like it's th' first time he done it. Our tempers get th' best o' us is all."
Katherine shook her head, lifting her hand to press the ice pack to Race’s eye. “This isn’t the first time?” she repeated, softly heartbroken. Who could hurt Race? For all his talk, Race was a sweetheart, a true friend.
“Race, don’t excuse this with his temper. Spot can damn well control it like the rest of us.”
"It ain't like I ain't hit him too or somethin'." He held the ice on his eye. "I mean I ain't but I could if I wanted to. We just fight a lot is all."
youre being extremely fetishistic of trans men lol
I am a transman. Get the fuck outta here.
can u please think before posting for once in yr fuckin life
Excuse me. What?
Jack: How long have you been sleeping with Spot?
Race: That's...I don't even get...why would...I...I've never had sex with anyone, anywhere! It's none of your...you have...the nerve, the audacity...Spot is my friend...he's terrible, face wise...how do I know, frankly, that you're not sleeping with him! Maybe you are! Maybe you're trying to throw me off! Hmm? Check and mate! This is an outrage! Who do I call?!
Jack: ... so how long have you been sleeping with Spot?
“I don’t want it, so I either go through months of this, only to put it up for adoption, or I get rid of it now.” {bindersncigars}

There was no good way out of this. Race was caught between a rock and a hard place, perhaps the hardest place anyone’s ever been caught in, and the only way out was decided between risking his life or choosing to lead a life he didn’t want.
She raked her hands through her hair. “What does Spot think?” She could guess what Spot thought, but better to have everything clear instead of assuming.
bindersncigars:
“Yeah but what else is I ‘spossed t’ do, huh? I ain’t ‘bout t’ waltz into a clinic an’ say 'this jackass from Brooklyn put his stupid kid in me an’ I want it taken out’, so I gotta.”
There was no other solution to this problem, consequences or not.
There really was nothing for it. As scary as the back alley was, it was better than sacrificing your autonomy for a kid you didn’t want. “I know, I know, but I can’t stop myself bein’ scared for you. It’s a terrifying thing to go through. You’re sure?”
"'course 'm sure." He was sure, well mostly sure. He definitely didn't want this, but the lingering fear of things going wrong still hung heavy. He could die. People have.
But more importantly...
"What would Spot an' I do with a baby anyways? We's just not meant fo' nothin' long term, y'know? I love th' guy an' all but we ain't solid like you an' Jack is."

“I’m like eighty percent sure it’s his. But that ain’t th’ problem. Th’ problem is fellas don’t get knocked up. So I can’t let anyone know an’ I ain’t keepin’ it so it don’t matter. Th’ only person who gotta know is you ‘cause you is gonna help me, right?” Race looked at Katherine hopefully.
He would’ve been shaking and crying in fear if he hadn’t already done all that before he’d come to her. He’d already made up his mind that this thing ain’t gonna make it beyond a couple more days, he wouldn’t let it. He couldn’t let it.
You is gonna help me, right?
Katherine couldn’t turn away from Race in this time of crisis because he was desperate for a friendly hand. The thing about desperate people, though, is that they went to the best solution they saw without thinking through the consequences.
“I’ll do what I can, Race, but have you thought about this? After your–” she gestured vaguely to his chest, “–first foray into the back alley, you know the risks. And this procedure’s pretty damn risky.”
"Yeah but what else is I 'spossed t' do, huh? I ain't 'bout t' waltz into a clinic an' say 'this jackass from Brooklyn put his stupid kid in me an' I want it taken out', so I gotta."

“He don’t know an’ you sure as shit ain’t tellin’ him. He don’t ever gotta know ‘bout this.”
Race was completely terrified by the whole situation and getting Spot involved was only gonna make it all worse because he’d just be mad at him.
Katherine balked. Spot didn’t know? “What do you mean, he never needs to know? He’s the–he’s the other parent! Even if you plan on getting rid of it, he needs to know.”
Suddenly her eyes rounded out to the size of saucers. “Oh, hell. Is it not his?”
"I'm like eighty percent sure it's his. But that ain't th' problem. Th' problem is fellas don't get knocked up. So I can't let anyone know an' I ain't keepin' it so it don't matter. Th' only person who gotta know is you 'cause you is gonna help me, right?" Race looked at Katherine hopefully.

Katherine: Jack is seriously the biggest prick on the face of the Earth.
Race: How do you know him?
Katherine: Oh, he’s my boyfriend.
"When are they going to let you leave?"
@withcameraandpen
“They ain’t. They wanna admit me, said somethin’ ain’t right. I dunno. But apparently back alley medical procedures ain’t exactly smiled upon. Infection or somethin’.”
bindersncigars:
“I may be dumb, Plumber, but I ain’t stupid.” He looked at his hands that were in his lap, picking at dirt under his nails. “I knew these things is dangerous but I wanted it so bad, y'know, that it don’t matter.”
He looked up meeting Katherine’s gaze. “I mean, I probably shouldn’t have gotten my recommendation from Spot, an’ I shoulda just lived with things the way they was. But I feel better now, y'know. Like a weight been lifted off o’ me or somethin’.”
So Race had known the risks and done it anyway. He knew it was dangerous, and yet–
She shouldn’t judge him. She didn’t know what it was like to live like him.
“Well, you’re not wrong.” Katherine glanced at Race’s chest. “You made progress. Scary, infected, life-threatening progress. And Jack’ll be happy to see you made it out in one piece.”
"Yeah, I guess. It ain't life threatenin' tho. Theys already gotten th' infected stuff off, that's what th' nurse said."
The mention of Jack brought another thought to his mind. "Y'won't tell th' fellas 'bout this right? Some o' 'em didn't even know. I don't wanna t' find out now."

bindersncigars:
Race shrugged his shoulders and ended to hissing in pain remembering the reason he was being admitted as his chest ached, bound up to hide some gnarly looking scars from his rather botched procedure.
“Theys so rigid here. I dunno why I can’t just go home t’ th’ lodgin’ house an’ sleep it off. Theys ain’t that red an’ I personally think Skip did a good job. Even got a two fo’ one special!”
Race was right–he needed to get out of here quickly. It was only a matter of time before the doctors started asking a different kind of question and Race found himself in the psych ward instead. Even so, these kinds of injuries couldn’t be slept off.
“They gotta give you medicine to kill the infection first. And knowing the lodging house, it’s probably better for you to go back all stitched up instead of getting infected with something else.”
She sat down in the chair beside him. “Did you know how dangerous this was? That this could happen?”
"I may be dumb, Plumber, but I ain't stupid." He looked at his hands that were in his lap, picking at dirt under his nails. "I knew these things is dangerous but I wanted it so bad, y'know, that it don't matter."

She sucked in a breath. Race had known the risks of the operation and still–
“From now on, I’m your cousin.” She’d used that trick to get in to see Race, and now it would ensure he got the proper care. “Doctors can get tricky, and I’m not letting anything happen to you.”
Race shrugged his shoulders and ended to hissing in pain remembering the reason he was being admitted as his chest ached, bound up to hide some gnarly looking scars from his rather botched procedure.
