hey you do not know me but YOU WILL BE OK, you are a strong person and your feelings are valid. those who do not accept your experiences and feelings are valid are at fault, not you
Thank you, anon. I really appreciate it.
You don't have STPD if you experience psychosis. Bottom line. It's one or the other; make up your mind.
See my reply to the other anon. I have had documented psychotic episodes. If that makes stpd people uncomfortable im willing to listen, but id like more of a reason than 'make up your mind'.
You cannot have schizophrenia and schizotypal personality disorder at the same time. You cannot have StPD while also experiencing psychosis. Ditch the StPD self-diagnosis because you clearly do not have it.
I know. I dont believe in the diagnostic system whatsoever and i mostly use those tags to reach people whose experiences most closely aligns with mine (schizospec & bipolar folks mostly). If it makes stpd folks uncomfortable that i use it inspite of having had full blown psychosis im willing to listen, but ive always been under the impression that the actuallyschizotypal and actually- tags in general mostly welcomed self-dx people as well as peoples whose experiences are similar but not identical
I will not stand by and watch you treat all mages like criminals, while those who would lead us bow to their templar jailors!Â
He says âI donât get it, why are you still a virgin at 24?â He says âI donât believe you, Iâve seen you walk, virgins donât walk like thatâ He says, âThat ainât natural, people are supposed to fuck.â He asks âWhy though? No offence though.â I ask âWhen was your first time?â He says âI was 12â He says âI know what youâre thinking, thatâs too young.â I look at his knuckles, he has two good hands. He says âShe was older than me.â I ask âHow old?â And he says âItâs better that the girl is older, thatâs how I learnt all things I knowâ He licks his lips. I ask again âHow old?â He says âI could use one finger to make you sobâ I think of my brother in prison and I canât remember his face. I ask again âHow old?â He says âBoys become men in the laps of women, you know?â I think of my mothers faced lined with her bad choices in men. He says âIf you were mine you wouldnât get away with this shit, Iâd eat you for hours, Iâd gut you like fruit.â I think of my cousins circumcision, how she feels like a mermaid, not human from the waist down. He says âIâd look after you, you know?â I laugh, I ask for the last time âHow old?â He says â34.â He says âShe was beautiful though and I know what youâre thinking but itâs not like that, Iâm a man, Iâm a man, Iâm a man. No one could ever hurt meâ.

I want to fucking cry
Like, everyone wants me to be upset that i was âpsychoticâ because being crazy is the worst thing ever, but god forbid i ever claim to be traumatized by the things that actually happened
Like, I had a very abusive relation to someone. He dictated and controlled everything I did, he called me dirty and unclean, he threatened me with murder and torture and he terrorized me all day, every day for months. When i tried to get help he guiltripped me, claimed i was betraying him and let people he knew wanted to hurt me gain acsess to me.
But because i had this relation with someone that is not accepted as real, im not allowed to call it trauma or abuse.
How Carmen Carreraâs interview on Katie Couricâs show went down
Carmen discussed her goal to become the first trans Victoriaâs Secret model, so the interview had a good start
The interview started to go downhill after Katie Couric starting to only ask questions about  Carmenâs transition and introducing her by saying âshe was born a man and thatâs why sheâs on our showâÂ
But she managed to handle it pretty well
And then Katie asked this
and said this
yeah, she went there
But Carmen then proceeded to shut Katie down and explain that there are other things to discuss
Actress Laverne Cox joins to discuss her role in her television show Orange is the New Black
And then Katie decides to direct the conversation back to Carmen and her transitionÂ
Laverne Cox decides to step up on the subject

does anyone have any tips on managing psychosis (especially like, bizarre/paranoid delusions) WITHOUT medication?
?
If you have insight to know when its happening I would say anxiety related resources would probably be pretty helpful. Also ocd resources re:magical thinking & intrusive thoughts, maybe?
Also maintaining regular sleep patterns, getting enough sleep, eating well all of that. Even nt people hallucinate when sleep deprived and tired so sleep in particular is important. Take vitamins if you have a hard time getting all your nutrients etc

Dont know?? I dont know her or what she likes? Does my profile look like an advice column?? Stop sending me creepy messages like this, jfc
can we please trade out âgender non-conformingâ for âgender variantâ because gender variant allows for trans and gv folks who âconformâ to stereotypes of their assigned gender and also doesnât include cis ppl like gnc does
I donât understand why we need either when we have nonbinary? Nonconforming and variant both seem kinda othering to me.
Some nonbinary folks identify as trans and some donât, so adding gv includes nb people who donât identify as trans without excluding those who do from the word trans Plus, some folks donât identify with the word nonbinary
I mean, there comes a point where words have to have fairly concrete meanings or theyâre useless. You want to exclude cis people but not people who âdonât identify as transâ⊠but cis means not trans. Being a gender other than the one you were assigned at birth makes you trans by definition - and I support people not using the term if they donât personally like it but we do need inclusive language to talk about us as a group. For example, I personally donât like the term âdemiboyâ for myself but it technically applies so I know if people are talking about demiboys Iâm being included. IMO trans and nonbinary should be the same, because theyâre not offensive terms and have solid meanings. Finding labels that make you comfortable is important, but we need inclusive language to communicate with others. Gender variant doesnât seem like a good idea to me because it sounds othering and could also be misunderstood to be like genderfluid and genderflux - like an individualâs gender varies, which is no good for nonbinary people with static genders. Honestly as long as people arenât saying âtrans and nonbinaryâ or âtrans*â Iâm reasonably happy, beyond that Iâll admit Iâm defensively nitpicking.
Yeah. Also, gender non-conforming has never been synomous with non-binary or trans. Itâs usually been a term to refer to anyone who is read by society as breaking gender norms in an obvious or visible way. This is useful when, for example, discussing the very spesific way many butch women and effeminate men are treated both in and outside the queer community or even when analyzing media and the way gnc characters are often villains. Iâm really confused as to why gnc is being brought up here at all, tbh, because it has never really been about identity as much as presentation asak.
I think what the OP is looking for is language to include people who need access to trans services (support groups, medical treatment etc) but exclude cis people who donât conform to gender norms. Like, my local trans support org uses âgender diverseâ to be a more positive version of gender nonconforming but it comes down to the same thing - cis crossdressers are welcomed into a trans space. The gender identity clinic system in the UK explicitly allows referrals of gender nonconforming people, and itâs uncertain whether this is a poorly worded attempt to include nonbinary people who need treatment or if theyâre allocating resources to helping cis people come to terms with how they express their genders.Â
I donât think gender variant would remove any of this confusion to be honest. I think we need explicitly clear language that makes it clear thereâs a hard line between trans people and cis people, so that people having a hard time on both sides of that line can get appropriate help and support.
Okay, I see. I arrange a trans camp in my country every year and it is open for trans people only as well being in a secret location for safety reasons. What we do is that in the text about the camp we are very specific; we state clearly that the camp is *only* for people under 30 who identify as a gender that is different from the gender they were assigned at birth. Then we specify that people who are questioning wether this might be the case for them are also welcome. I donât really think there is a way to convey that clearly with just a single word, tbh.Â

being against self diagnosis is literally saying "if you can't afford to get diagnosed by a professional you can't possibly have any form of mental illness ever!" it's the same thing as telling people who HAVE been diagnosed that until they got to see a professional, they literally were not ill. do you see how foolish that is? fuck YOU, tbh!
Being against self diagnosis is being against little hormonal teens playing doctor.Â
Also just because you havenât been diagnosed doesnât mean you canât have [x]. It just means you canât say you have [x] while it is possible you may have [x].
Self diagnosing is mockery of those who really do have said illnesses etc. Also disresspectful to the doctors to study for years. Grow up.
The only people who support self dxâign are the very people trying to justify their childish behavior. I see kids on this site self diagnosing with autism just to fit in.Â
Not okay.
So basically its a petty linguistic issue? Does it really bother you that much when someone says âi have the fluâ when they have all the symptoms as supposed to âi may have the fluâ? What a silly thing to care about.
Lots of people support self-dx without being self-diagnosed themselves, myself included. The psychiatric diagnostic system is flawed at best, completely useless at worst, why would I support that by acting as if mental illness isnt already diagnosed based on self-reported symptoms and the psychs subjective belief?
Sure, lots of self-dxed people are probably wrong about their diagnosis, but so what? Mental illness isnt some protected title we need to protect from âfakersâ, literally no one gets hurt from this in any significant way. If someone is wrong theyâll figure it out sooner or later, you being obnoxious at them isnât doing anything either way.
Mental illnesses cannot be compared to the flu as they are much more complex. Your justification is basically â it isnât hurting anyoneâ. Thatâs a petty argument. In the meantime ill self diagnose myself with cancer because I want to be oppressed!
Cancer can be objectively proven. Mental illness canât. Its based on self-reported symptoms. The moment cancer is diagnosed based on your personal feelings; feel free to diagnose yourself.
Besides, people self-dx to gain acsess to resources like community, support & self-help groups, not to feel opressed. Whats the harm in people who cannot or dont want to be involved in the psych system finding help through peer support? Nothing.
In my experience the psychiatric system is extremely abusive, coercive and utterly useless. I dont begrudge anyone for wanting to avoid that; if it had been option for me I would avoid it too, but alas.
Your anecdotal fallacy proves nothing. And mental illnesses arenât just a bunch of symptoms, did you really just say that? What are you gunna do after self diagnosing? Prescribe yourself meds?
My experience with the system is as legit as yours, surely?
Do you think meds are the only way to treat mental illness? Medication for mental illnesses is a mess & many people choose not to take them due to often severe side-effects, not to mention the fact that it doesnt even work for everyone.
Here are some things you can do with only a self dx in my country:
- Go to camp for mentally ill youth - Go to anxiety, depression and eating disorder peer support groups - Go to resource centers for several different mental illnesses - Get your family member free counseling and help through support organizations for caretakers and partners of mentally ill people - Connect with other people with similar symptoms
So, they might not be able to get medication legally, but they sure as hell can gain acsess to treatment and resources that are proven to work (support groups have been proven to help with anxiety disorders).
I can see you havenât had much experience with the pysch system. It is still an anecdotal fallacy.Â
HINT: look it up
10 years counts as not having much experience now? Interesting.
The fact that people can acsess all of te things I listed, and that support groups are a medically accepted treatment is not an anecdote. Neither is the fact that medication does not work for everyone. These are objectice truths, not anecdotal.
Maybe you should look up the word anecdote, because you dont seem to understand what it means. In fact it seems like your go-to-phrase for when you have no actual argument more thab anything.

If youâre self diagnosed, no one is required to believe you or give you special privileges, because you donât have the authority nor the ability to decide that you have [x] problem.Â
Do you apply this to everything or just mental illness? My boyfriend is really sick right now, he literally has all symptoms of the flu. Should he pretend that heâs not sick and not self-diagnose with this illness?
In any case; mental illness is largely self-reported. If you go to a psych and say âi feel sad all the time, im suicidal, i have no energy/drive/happiness, i have a comstant overwhelming feeling of guilt and i have felt this eay every day for 6 monthsâ heâs gonna diagnose you with depression. Why not do it yourself? If you donât want/cant afford meds or therapy anyways, there is no reason to get professionally dxed.
He shouldnât pretend he isnât sick, but he also should go to the doctor because sure, it could be the flu, but it could also be leukemia, a UTI, a bad cold, an infection, and a whole host of other things.Â
I never said mental illness couldnât be recognized, of course you will likely recognize something is off with you. But while what you described could be chronic depression, it could also be pregnancy, bipolar disorder, anxiety, Pure O, a tumor in the parietal lobe, and several other things.Â
You donât know.
thatâs why you need a professional diagnoses.
But lets say you donât want meds or to do anything about it.
You still canât just go around saying you have [x] if you donât know, for the same reason you canât go around saying you have cancer. Itâs disrespectful, and if you donât want to treat it, then the only reason to claim it is to excuse errant behavior, which you still canât do because you are probably very wrong.
What psychs have you seen that checked you for cancer or a tumor when you come in saying youâre depressed? No one does that. I have been in the psych system for 10 years and not ONCE did they scan my brain or give me a pregnancy test. That is such a bad argument. I mean yeah, it could be something physical, but a psych wouldnt figure that out anyways.Â
Also; Here are some reasons to self-diagnose that does not include âexcusing errant behaviourâ:Â
- Acsess to peer-led support groups for anxiety and OCD. - Acsess to therapy groups for people with EDâs. - Acsess to resources like camps and gatherings for mentally ill youth - Acsess to support groups for people whose partners have bipolar disorder or depression. - Acsess to organizations and resource centers that deal with mental illness. Â - Being able to find and connect with people whose problems are similar to yours.Â
Here are some reasons people choose not to get diagnosed:Â
- Its too expensive - They are living in an abusive household and being denied therapy - Theyâre scared of psychiatric abuse - Or like with me; They are living in a country where you can be denied trans related healthcare if you get the wrong mental health diagnosis and where they WILL take away your hormones and mistreat you should you ever be hospitalized.Â
The idea that all, or even most, people who self-diagnose are really just liars who want attention is a myth. I have worked with trans youth for years and lots them are self-diagnosed. You know what they also are? Obviously struggling and obviously mentally ill in some way. Itâs more important to me that vulnarable people without acsess to help can get some relief, peer-support and community than it is that the labels they use are the âcorrectâ ones.
