the gang setting known vampire stan priya up with the goth girl… they really said gay rights :’) | TURNING RED (2022)
My Neighbour Toronto
boys can have thousands of coming of age movies, perv on girls, make jokes about finding their underwear and bras, but a kids movie mentioning periods (something very young girls will get and have to adjust to) is somehow dirty and taboo.
if you see a piece of media referencing a natural part of us growing up as sexual, that’s YOU being sick in the head, not us.
I know it's cheap to point out dumb shit online but when does this person think someone should learn about puberty, their twenties?
Turning Red (2022) dir. Domee Shi
They did the character Abby Park in Turning Red so damn well. That little girl is filled with the kind of unchecked rage that can only be unlocked by a potent combination of bilingualism, puberty, hair salon mom guinea pig status, the most adorable chubster cheeks, boba addiction, and the absolute conscious knowledge that you will never grow to be taller than 5’1” at most in your mortal lifetime. This kid defines the oft casually slung descriptors feral, gremlin and chaos. Sometime in her twenties or thirties she will absolutely be arrested for biting somebody at least once. Y2k Korean-Canadian preteen fob girl hovering two seconds away from attacking anyone in her near vicinity at any given moment. We stan.
What’s art fight??
I was hoping I’d get an ask like this so I had an excuse to go all out like this! Artfight is an annual art event that surrounds giving and getting art for a whole month!
once you make an account you can upload all your ocs and their information on your own page! This should include stuff like references and small bits of character info (enough for someone to draw them accurately). You need to have at least one OC uploaded to participate so people can draw art for you during Artfight (although i would say upload about 3 so people have choice.)
All people who sign up for Artfight that year get separated into two teams once the event begins (I’m using red and blue as an example but they are usually stuff like sun vs moon, technology vs nature, coffee vs tea etc)
Once that happens people can make art of your OCs in exchange for points for their team! Yep! You get free art of your OCs!
But that means your team is now down a good few points so its not without consequence.
By drawing an OC that belongs to the opposite team for more points than the piece you were given your team is able to stay on top of the game and you also put some good out in the world in the process.
if you draw something for the person of the opposite team and they attack back you can get extra points for your team by starting a “revenge chain” its one of the best ways to get a point multiplier going and to start a friendship with someone who has cool characters!
So what happens when your team wins?
Your team all get a nifty little digital trophy, all the art development that comes with drawing competitively, the knowledge that you’ve put a lot of good and happiness into the world by drawing peoples ocs, and complete ownership of bragging rights! (I personally developed my art style a whole lot during artfight last year! it was super fun!)
So what about when your team looses?
Well the reason why the other team won is because they gave your team the most art of your teams characters! So statistically you just got a whole bunch more free art than they did! Even if you don’t get all the celebration and bragging rights you now have so much more amazing art of your characters!
So basically…
I totally implore everyone who loves to do visual art to participate in artfight! It’s an amazing event that challenges you in a great way and you get to be introduced to a lot of really amazing artists and make alliances with people on your team! Here’s the link to the websiteHere’s the link to my account on art fight if you want to check me out!Keep in mind you don’t have to participate in artfight once you make an account, you need to opt in for that year at any point during the month so you can absolutely just make an account to watch and look at the good art!
Art Fight starts on July 1! I hope to play again this year, although with much reduced capacity, probably. I’ll do simple portraits only but I can’t guarantee I will be able to get everyone back.

Villains who are in romantic relationships but abuse their partners are so goddamn boring. I want villains who are absolute bastards, absolutely villains, but who are loving and caring and attentive partners anyway. Taking over the world doesn’t mean you have to treat your loved ones like shit.

This is the god damn funniest and most absurdly relatable thing I’ve seen
Livestock drama
“Let’s put pool noodles on the goat’s horns!” says a teenager.
“Why would you, ” I begin, but they have already stampeded out of the house. I shrug.
It turns out that when someone puts pool noodles on a goat’s horns, the goat doesn’t really care. They’re very light, after all, and she can’t see them. You know who cares? Who cares a LOT?
the HORSE. Hero took one look at Nutmeg wearing pool noodles and ran away. You know who doesn’t want to be left alone, ever? Nutmeg. Who went trotting after Hero because he was leaving her.
Hero, seeing that the eldritch abomination was after him, picked up speed. Nutmeg went into a full run. My kids started chasing Nutmeg to get the pool noodles off her, but could not catch her, because she’s surprisingly fast. The dogs were bringing up the rear, just happy to be going for a pleasant run. Hero was in a panic, leading a parade that he did not want.
This all resolved. One noodle feel off; the kids eventually cornered Nutmeg and removed the other one. Just - a day at a farm, I guess.
