“Cannabis.” You glimmered back with a mischievous glint, your left hand cradling the small pouch that had the odor of a certain black and white animal emanating from it and greenish purplish chunks of clustered leaves being the source of the tangy smell.
-------------------------------------------------------
“What is it? It kind of stinks..” the blond said, the secondary thought following his initial curiosity.
“Or weed, if you want to call it by its common name. Though I think Cannabis has a certain ring to it. It's of the Cannabaceae family or the hemp family, this genus consisting of three main species, though not limited to, sativa, indica, and ruderalis. Gosh it’s so rare to see palmate leaves like this that curl in on themselves, almost fernlike but not quite…”
This was not much of an answer as it only begged more questions that the Champion’s face was already asking before his lips could formulate the words. Your rambling of the newest plant you’d come to obsess over was nothing new to the Hero of Hyrule. Every time you met it was as if you had discovered an entirely new species of plant to the Hylian that he had the pleasure of learning about from yours truly. This time he was more confused than anything, having little to no knowledge of the psychedelic species and being at your mercy for what it was meant for.
“…You smoke it. It's supposed to relax you and make you giggly. Sorry I meant to start with the less nerdy stuff first, you know how it is.” A raised brow and crossed arms were what you were met with, not in a chastising way but with a look wondering if this was actually safe to consume or another one of your ‘plant experiments’ you were doing after reading another random plant hobbyist book on your travels.
“It’s for science, Link! You know you can trust me on these things.” He knew you were right; you were probably the most qualified person to be recommending that he try doing something as outlandish as inhaling the smoke of the leaves of a mysterious plant that had a less than inviting smell. You were a seasoned traveler who specifically sought out rare plants after all. Some would even call you an apothecary. Though right now the way you had practically pulled Link to a dark street corner of Hateno village to show him ambiguously coded goods not meant for children… well it didn’t help him feel confident in your too excited grin and admittedly cute glint in your eyes when offering for him to smell and touch the dried plant.
“Okay so it is technically outlawed in some provinces… Zora’s Domain. But that’s because they’re children for a longer time than the rest of us- and it’s been studied for adult use only. I got this stuff from a shop in Gerudo Town since they legalized the sale of the plant there recently.” His calloused fingertips brushed the dusty dried leaves, the skunkish scent lingering on his skin that he brought to his nose and smelled once more. It had notes of what he thought was Safflina, though which variant he didn’t have the nose for. You shuffled watching Links subtle inquisitiveness and knotted the bag shut, stealing a glance into the blond's oceanic eyes, a smile filled with intent glistening on your lips as you put the sack in your pocket and took both of Link’s hands in yours.
“Please say you’ll be my smoking buddy!”
“Okay.”
“I really want to try it with you, I waited- wait what?”
“Sure, Y/n.”
It took a moment to fully process his immediate acceptance of what you considered to be a bit of an outrageous request for someone you’ve only been friends with for the past eight months or so. Giving a yes so quickly? You had to be hearing things. Surely this man didn’t trust you so easily when you’ve only traveled together a literal handful of times. A soft squeeze of the Hylian’s hands in yours brought you back to, and your eyes caught the small upward tilt of one side of his mouth before the melodic tone of his voice passed through your ears once again.
“Thank you for asking, I like trying new things with you.”
A beat skipped in your heart’s natural cadence, and blood rose to your cheeks to assess the damage of Link’s genuine tone that you could swear was going to make your head explode if you gave yourself the time to think of it as anything more than who he was. Suddenly your proximity to the Hylian was too small, his face inches from yours and breath evenly fanning just against the tip of your nose and lips. You knew this was a man of little words, the fact he spoke to you this much was a miracle given those who also knew the Hero from crossing paths would mention that he only said a select few phrases and nothing more to them. For him to say something so… direct. It was foreign to you, but not a feeling you would soon forget, nor did you want to seeing as you’d had a crush on the blue eyed Hylian since your first night camping together. Leaning away just enough to hide the heat emanating from your face, you gathered your thoughts to create what could be argued to potentially be a full sentence.
“Okay.. I-I mean- yes- thank you? I-”
“Let’s go to my place”
“Yes please.”
Damn it, was he good at guiding a conversation. You had to pull yourself together and fast; you two were friends for Hylia’s sake! He definitely didn’t say it in a way that meant he wanted to do things other than smoke together. Certainly! Besides, it was in both your best interests that romance was not involved in any capacity considering this was THE Champion of Hyrule.
Hylia knows Link has numerous, if not endless tasks to take on as Hyrule’s savior. Not only did he have to fight off Ganon once but TWICE after waking up from a hundred-year slumber. He lost most of his memories- his arm even! He only got it back recently, Link is certainly NOT thinking about love right now; no one would be in such dire circumstances. Sure, he’s culled Ganon again and again but what about rebuilding Hyrule and attending to the princess and what if the Calamity comes back or what if he’s struck down by a different monster or what if- Gah!
There you were worrying for him again, remembering that you didn’t say anything about your feelings toward the man for a reason.
Swallowing a forming lump in your throat, you pushed your feelings down to instead nurture the time the two of you had together knowing he was living such a tumultuous and busy life with little to no free time in between. It was a miracle in the first place that the two of you had ended up in Hateno at the same time. Yes, it was better this way.
“Link?” You said with a more than gentle tone, walking beside him at a comfortable pace toward his house behind the son’s buildings and across the old bridge. A soft hum and a glance toward you momentarily told you he was waiting for your next words.
“Thanks for making time for me… I enjoy the time we spend together.”
It was Link's turn to get rosy cheeked, not knowing what else to do his pace almost immediately quickened to hide the growing fluster on his features that you were oblivious to. You heard something of a quick ‘I’llberightbackwaithere’ from him before he rushed off into his house faster than you could reach the door that had been all but slammed behind him.
Well… that isn’t what you expected, but maybe he’d remembered there was something embarrassing in his house he didn’t want you to see? Maybe he didn’t clean up and needed a moment to tidy the living room for your company?
You decided to let the man have his privacy; he deserves that much at the very least with all he does for Hyrule. You two were smoking outside anyway, and with how the Cannabis reeks through the cloth of the leather sack you’ve been carrying it in for the past few days now, you knew you shouldn’t be bringing that stuff into an enclosed space, it would stink up the whole area within a couple of hours without even being lit.
Pebbles tumbled across the ground as you shuffled your way over to the cooking pot, now sitting and setting your pack down fully, sorting through your inventory of items and getting out a waxed wooden pipe. Its neck was long like a toy bubbler with a small tin topper to flip over the bowl where the bud would be placed. It had small engravings of swirls, and mini crescent moons carved out to make it a unique piece, clearly being carefully made. It had cost a pretty penny, and you were glad it had come in handy more than enough times to be considered paid for at this point. Death Mountain’s Mullein had to be a favorite of yours for culling harsh coughs after a cold, one bowl of the leaves would leave your lungs clear as crystal.
As you were mumbling over how to go about breaking up the buds since you realized you were without something akin to a grinder, a hand was placed on your shoulder causing you to jolt and look up quickly before relaxing with a soft sigh and your own hand on your forehead.
“Link…! Don't scare me like that, use my name next time or whistle- or something…!” The usually silent man nodded sheepishly, uttering a soft ‘sorry’ before showing he’d brought two cups of steaming hot water, each holding a bag of tea leaves of unknown variety, smelled like some mix of spices, maybe the tea was found in a village in a colder climate with how warm and cozy the waft of it smelt. The definite scent of cinnamon and cloves gave way to a relaxed hum from you as you took your cup and placed it beside yourself to cool in the air that was lazily shifting from daytime to night.
“Mmh thank you… Uhm, do you happen to have a fire arrow?” His look became quizzical, eyes squinting at what you could possibly want to get up to with a fire arrow. Surely you weren’t going to suggest using it to smoke with.
“I just want to light the pipe with it; you handle them all the time so it must be relatively safe!” How did he know you were going to ask him this. He stifled a laugh, coughing instead as he attempted to try and remain educational on the topic of handling elemental arrows.
“Y/n, they only charge when pulled back on a bow, it won’t light otherwise, it was made that way for a reason.”
“What, to kill the joy of repurposing items like a true conservationist?” You quipped back, disappointed by the reasonable safety precautions taken in making the weaponry you were set on utilizing.
“To keep people like yourself from getting permanent burn scars or worse, electrocuting or freezing themselves solid. Not to mention the bomb arrows, those probably shouldn’t exist as an open commodity to the public.” You had to agree to that last part, you had seen more than enough Hylian men blow themselves off a cliff trying to properly shoot the time sensitive arrows. Still, you thought your idea was worth at least mentioning. “I will be right back, okay? I think I have a better alternative.”
“Will you bring me a mortar and pestle too?” He nodded back and began heading inside once more, set on making your shared experience a comfortable one.
Link then called from the doorway before going inside, “We’ll be moving to the pondside under that tree next to the stables. Meet you over there, okay?”
You yelled back an affirmation, gathering yourself and placing your travel bag against the tree beside the cooking pot then contemplating for a moment if you should bring the torch with you as a lighter. No… Trust Link, he said he’d bring what you’d need.
Grabbing the two drinks of yours and your pipe you made your way around the house, searching for each landmark to pinpoint the location he meant for you to find.
Soft steps crunched down the grass and previous years fallen leaves in search of your friend’s described location, new flowers budding and blooming on the small patch of earth that felt made for sitting with your loved ones. It was a truly perfect spot you had to say once you got through the initial greenery of saplings and shrubs.
A plush blanket of grass was splayed across the ground right under the aforementioned tree that looked to be at least twice as old as the Champion himself. To the left was the pond; its top partially covered in lily pads and duckweed, most of the rest of the circling foliage on the ground being different varieties of wildflowers, clover, ferns and junipers.
It was hard not to hone in on any one plant, wanting to explore them all given some of them were growing out of their usual regions, and it fascinated you to know how Link was caring for them, what the soil type was, how long they’d been growing. Maybe it was the pond that was supplying the necessary nutrients and water for them all to be thriving harmoniously.
Hands came into contact with leaves, turning them over in your palms, then they met the tree bark of what you were now sure was a Hylian Elm. If their opposite leaf pattern wasn’t a dead giveaway, the lined vein structure and sandpapery texture certainly was. The absolute girth of the tree itself, however, could tell you all you needed to know if looking from afar.
“Y/n!”
“Link! You didn’t tell me you had so many varieties of plants! Do you know all the names of them?” a gleeful smile was plastered across your cheeks, red rushing back to the Hero’s cheeks once again as he sought to distract himself by placing the essential items down in favor of setting out a blanket over the lush greenery that would act as a suitable cushion for the two travelers. He couldn’t help but feel a fluttering in his chest every time your smile shined with excitement over your special interest. Like a pull toward your being, his heart ached to know you more, but was it really okay to invite potential hardship in exchange for something more than friendship?
Feet padded over to the lantern, waxy twine and requested mortar and pestle that had been placed down a moment ago, hands grabbing for the latter pair of items as you then made yourself comfortable on the laid out woolen blanket Link had so generously supplied as an extra comfort. He watched you while assessing the setup of the officiated spot, finding your natural presence and way you moved comforting, like you were meant to be beside him. Everything felt in its place.
With the items now in hand, you pulled out the pouch of green goods then began to crush up a single half thumb sized nugget of the dried plant, careful not to break it down too much and turn it into dust. Link sat beside you, blues now focused on your hands, how they moved with technique, eyes traveling up to the soft features of knitted brows that were focused and working by lantern light now.
“I know that the flowers beside us are Blue Nightshade and Silent Princess. I didn’t ask about the ferns, but I can find out for you.” It truly wasn’t fair being friends with someone as selfless and thoughtful as Link, knowing he would go out of his way to help you with a trivial task even with everything on his plate. Even the location of glowing flowers by the water could be considered an act of love. How could you possibly silence the romantic thoughts in your mind when the perfect man was sitting beside you? And so closely. A warmth settled in your chest that you would downplay, trying desperately not to admit to your weakness for the man clad in blue.
“You seem to know your flowers well. I’ll find you more to compliment the ones in your garden.”
Your index and thumb pinched the weed together, clumping the still somewhat moist bud closely then packing it into the wooden pipe you were holding, filling the bowl to the top with the pungent scented plant. The least you could do was try to stay in the moment.
With eyes now set upon the others, you held up the packed bowl of weed, offering Link the first hit. “Wanna go first, Champ?” A smile settled on your lips as you handed him the pipe then leaned over to grab the lantern and waxed twine meant for candle making. So, this is what he meant by a better alternative; you still thought your earlier suggestion was a winner, but this would do.
“I can light it for you since I assume you’ve never inhaled smoke through a pipe before, yes?” A nod with a determined look on his face confirmed your thoughts on the matter as you then pulled the twines string out a bit before lighting the end on fire. “Okay, then we’ll take this slow. Place your lips on the end piece, yes. I’ll light the end with this, and you’ll inhale at the same time, alright? Keep your thumb on this hole here until you’re ready to inhale the smoke you just pulled from the plant, then you’re golden.”
You held the lit twine over the bowl, Link following your instructions and inhaling, though much more vigorously than you would have recommended as he then lifted his finger, leaves still red hot from being enflamed as loud coughs followed seconds after observing the man take in so much smoke at once. Your hand fell on his back, rubbing circles in to try and quell his fit, shifting a bit then to grab his drink and offer the still warm beverage to him.
“Hylia, Link! We’re not competing for who has the biggest lung capacity you know!” Giggles rang through the air as the Champion’s coughing subsided, and his face turned to you, tears and a bit of snot dripping from his bemused facial features. “Try to inhale with less enthusiasm next time around. Here, watch.” So, he sat back and let you work your magic, nursing his throat with tea.
Relighting the twine once more, you held the same pipe end to your lips and lit the bowl up while taking in a smoother and shorter breath, letting go of the hole you held your thumb over to inhale the smoke in one prolonged breath in before you exhaled the remains, plumes floating in the air.
“I guess it’s better you don’t know how to properly smoke, you run too much to do this regularly.” You shrugged and grinned a bit, feeling good you knew how to do at least one thing better than the Hero of Hyrule, not that it was very impressive in itself, but it was something. Handing back the pipe to let him have another go, you could feel the plants effects coming on in just one puff, this surprising you a bit though you were in such a good mood and it felt that you seemed to sink deeper into that tune of comfort beside Link rather than fall away from it. Could this be the plants properties taking reign over your mind? Surely that was part of it, but you agreed to yourself Link was the main reason you were feeling so lovely right now. Nothing topped simply spending time with someone so dear to you.
More coughing occurred next to you as your drifting thoughts were pulled back to your friend beside you who seemed to be recovering quicker this time around, gazing at you with cerulean blues that were slowly becoming bloodshot, another effect possibly? The analysis of the plant was shoved aside in your thoughts as Link leaned in closer than you’d expected, handing you the still lit pipe again as you softly thanked him and took another pull, this time really feeling the difference in conscience that overcame your senses upon exhaling.
Thoughts began to slow and your tactile and hearing heightened pleasantly so, you could feel the sound of the stream nearby washing over your mind, could smell the earthy tones of the spiced tea sitting nearby much more clearly, in harmony with the fresh scents of nature. And Goddesses, your heart, you could feel it pounding against your ribcage now that your eyes were truly drinking in the Hylian before you. When did his eyes begin to shimmer like sapphires? How did his hair become so much softer looking? And when did your faces become so close? Everything else seemed to phase out of existence except for this man, his presence like warm sunshine on dewy grass in the springtime, you could practically feel it with how potent that little bit of weed was that was burning a lazy trail of smoke from the pipe cupped in your hand.
“Y/n…” Link looked to you then both your foreheads leaned together, your closeness a product of the already small amount of space between you both and your shared timeliness in becoming just as high as the other.
“Yes Link…?” A most content smile crossed your lips as you let the warmth of this connection with your friend and crush wash over you in waves, the sensation revealing itself to be much more pressing while stoned, though that didn’t matter right now so much.
“I feel like a freshly baked pie on a windowsill.” You giggled. You were happy where you were beside the Hero, pine and patchouli being his signature scent that you were currently being anchored by. Weight partially rested against one another like a trust exercise to prove your bond had grown stronger since the last time you had found each other in the same place.
“Me too, Link.” Two laughs overtook the cooling air as you both leaned back enough to give the other air, eyes daring to look back into the others as you were both properly buzzed on the new plant, deciding to each take one more hit before putting the pipe away for the night.
This time a cough resounded from your side of the blanket, the ashes flying up through the pipe as the bowl met its end on your last inhale. Link was luckier this time and held back on hacking his lungs out like you were currently doing, his head resting on his scrunched up knees as he watched the light of the lantern illuminate your faintly glowing features under harsh shadows that assisted in lengthening your lashes. It was like they were framing the windows to your soul, like one more shared look would do Link in and he’d have to confess his growing affections toward the traveling botanist.
Would it be so bad? To indulge in selfish desires such as morning kisses and dancing in the kitchen? Was he allowed to love without fearing his lifestyle could hurt the one he cared for most? The Hylian man pondered this again while melting into his knees further by the second, you noticing his zoned-out expression and waving a slow hand in front of his eyes.
“Hello? Earth to Link? Feeling alright there, bud?” A sudden sharp inhale from him told you he’d come back from whatever world was taking up his attention, a dusting of red already painting his cheeks.
“I’m fine… It’s getting cold out, would you like to come inside?” Perhaps these were the side effects of the weed, Link thought as he sat up properly and looked at your plush lips. Feeling sensitive to the temperature changes, becoming increasingly aware of your feelings toward your friend you’d been purposefully ignoring. Getting spontaneous courage to invite them into your house as a result of these clashing circumstances. That was probably why he was already gathering your things the moment you smiled and uttered a soft yes from the same lips that his tongue kept fantasizing about tasting.
Both became busied with gathering up the blanket, smoking materials, and now empty cups of tea, quietly and a bit clumsily making their way back to the house.
Link was the first inside, taking most everything in while you put the Cannabis and pipe away in your bag, relocating it beside the doorway before stepping inside and closing the door behind yourself. He had laid the blanket neatly over the couch nestled under his mounted shields, cups placed in the sink.
“Oh, Link-! Food is supposed to taste really good right now, want to try eating something?” A simple suggestion in your relaxed and hazy state since your stomach was on the verge of protest given you’d only had a late breakfast today. Thus the sudden thought to kill two birds with one stone.
Link rummaged through his cupboards, there not being much to look at given this place was more of a vacation home than one that was functionally lived in. One could hope that would be subject to change one day, and it was clearly coming in handy now. Thank Hylia for affordable homes. “All I have is some bread, wildberry jam… and goat butter. Is that alright?”
“Sounds perfect.”
And so Link set to work, attempting to cut two even slices of bread. Minutes pass and there is one successful slab of inch thick bread sitting on the counter. “Is that stuff we smoked supposed to make time stop or something? …Why is this knife not cooperating?”
A chuckle came from you as you sat down on the couch and pulled the blanket draped over it's armrest around your shoulders, getting comfortable in your wait for Link’s arduous journey of remembering how to use a knife to be over.
“…I don’t know. Though I understand what you’re talking about. You're taunting me at this point with how long you’ve been prepping our bread.”
Link momentarily looked up from his task, sticking his tongue out in retribution to your poking fun at him before finally getting the second slice cut and moving onto the butter and jam, butter being spread first of course. This much he knew was the logical choice. Spreading was much easier than cutting surprisingly, and soon both pieces of bread were generously coated in the confectionary ingredients promised. His next gargantuan task was putting everything back in the correct place.
After looking over the counter for a long moment, Link decided to simply wrap the bread and butter, twisting the lid back onto the jam so it wouldn’t spoil and leaving the rest for later. It wasn’t like him to be so untidy, but he truly couldn’t be bothered right now. The mess could wait; it could wait because you were sitting there patiently waiting for him with a blanket by the stove fireplace.
At last he brought over the slices of bread, both generously coated in creamy berry goodness, one hand being outstretched and accepting the bread while the other pushed some of the blanket over for the blond.
Neither of you could wait any longer, Link’s whipped up snack looking far too good for manners right now as you both took large bites of your own pieces, eyes flickering with satisfaction from both parties. The initial flavor came from what you now knew was sourdough, its fluffy porous texture being seeped with a creamy and slightly salty pad of butter that perfectly complimented the tangy and fresh wildberry jam sitting on top, each flavor bursting in your mouth and melding together like a symphony that urged you to indulge in more. Words weren’t needed when there was food this good to experience. One bite turning to two then three with nothing said in between, just a content silence that filled the air.
Knees knocked together on the couch, yourself sharing the blanket with Link as he pulled it over his shoulder just like you had, completing the cocoon. You don’t remember when Link had lit the fireplace, possibly when the two of you arrived at his home and he fled inside? It was rather cozy when you first stepped in. You also don’t remember when you began registering how the warmth insulated the blanket you were both sharing, but it made you very conscious of your increasing closeness, shoulders touching, thighs pressed together. Was it just a coincidence his foot kept tapping and nudging yours, surely it was your imagination, maybe the weed.
Finally, his foot rested right against yours and what you felt was a slight shift in his weight toward your center of gravity, though the intensity of the flavors you were experiencing while eating cancelled out fully registering this change in physical closeness.
You finished the last of your snack, savoring the last couple of bites that tasted just as good as the first. The contrasting textures and still bright freshness from the berries grounded you into a sense of calm delight at the present predicament you’d noticed moments before.
You were on the verge of cuddling, you thought as your hazed e/c eyes focused on the fire, imagining what the Hylian man just out of sight could be thinking. Your foot pressed back against the blonds, testing to see if he was perhaps trying to insinuate something; head now turned subtly to observe his reaction. If you could just get one glimpse of his eyes, just to confirm that surely, he wasn’t paying attention to you, to your bodies pressed together and the increasing heat building under the blanket, to the sudden tension that was thick in the air.
Oh Goddesses. He was looking back.
Your heart leapt out of your throat, cheeks and ears burning as if you’d gone to Goron City without protection. How long had he been staring at you? Truthfully you couldn’t know given your attention was taken up by the bread for at least the past few minutes, but it looked as if he was both deeply focused and lost in thought at the same time, while staring at you of course. Your eyes quickly darted away, knowing you’d been caught red handed as you noticed him refocus and hone in on your movements like a true sword master would. What surprised you most though was Link’s next actions.
The blonds left hand came up to meet your right cheek, cupping your face with the utmost tenderness as he tilted your gaze to the left to face him so your eyes could meet once more.
There was no ignoring your emotions now, no more running away from what you both knew intrinsically all this time. It was plain to see in the Hero’s expression, he was hopelessly smitten with you, the way his features softened just looking at you. His brows knit together, searching your gaze for your own feelings as he held you with a tenderness you didn’t know a weathered soldier such as himself was capable of. It was captivating. It was impossible not to get lost in the oceans that were Link’s eyes; it was just like being pulled into the Lake Hylia head-first on a sunny day.
Before you knew it Link was leaning in, eyes falling shut and lips parting to invite your own. Time was moving in slow motion, but it was all happening so fast at the same time; your brain fighting to keep up while still properly stoned. In the next moment your lips were melting together, his free hand on your waist and body towering over your frame in the mess of blanket as you felt your back hit the plush cushioning of the newly furbished couch.
Intoxicating was all you could think to describe Link’s lips hungrily meeting yours again and again, taking the time to press in tantalizingly so to make each kiss count, and never leaving enough room to allow you to fully catch your breath. You were dizzied with confusion at this sudden turn of events and equally an arousal that was spurring you on to explore the wonderful sensation of his tongue meeting yours in your mouth. Lips messily pressed back as your arms slid around Links sturdy shoulders for support. Your hands had locked around the Hero’s neck to officially accept this development between the two of you, a soft moan leaving your lips signaling your partner to continue.
“Wait…” Link stopped in his tracks, leaning back to admire you splayed out beneath him in all your frazzled beauty.
“Yes, Y/n? Is everything okay?” That same tone of genuineness from earlier now present once more. You knew he was asking with the purest intentions; scar ridden fingers playing with a lock of tusled hair haloed around you.
“This is real… right? We’re kissing right now, I mean, I’m kissing you, Link. Right?” A laugh warmed your cheeks, enraptured by the man’s vocals that were next to angelic.
“Yes, this is real. We’re kissing. I’m kissing you because I like you a lot. May I kiss you some more?” You were never one to deny Link a request. Much less one he asked specifically of you. An ask that offers you a future you wouldn’t dare give up to some other lucky soul.
“You didn’t think to ask before you kissed me?” You joked.
“I’m sorry, the look you gave me… I couldn't hold myself back again.” He said with a deepening blush on his cheeks and ears red with a mix of shame and fluster.
“Well, thank Hylia you did honestly, I wouldn’t have worked up the courage to do it myself.” Honestly, it was a Herculean task for anyone given his status as the savior of Hyrule. Who could say they deserved to be at Link’s side as his partner? You had to be pretty special to catch the eye of someone who’s seen so much of the world.
“That’s my job, love.” A soft smile played on your lips at his little joke and nickname, he could be so charming at the best of times, only making him that much more beautiful under the glow of the fireplace.
“Just kiss me again already.”
