I was doodling the little critter guys and figured I might as well give them away to those interested.
BIRDINS! free adoptables designed by yours truly
Anybody can play! Even if you are not interested in adopts, I encourage you to have fun anyway. I know you are bored of scrolling your dashboard. You’ll receive a metaphorical cookie.
AVAILABLE ADOPT BATCH 🡰
HOW TO PLAY:
> Each character has its own personal scavenger hunt. To win a character you need to solve it. The final answer is always one word - character’s name.
> Answers to in-between steps of the puzzle can be text or a number.
> Use of decoding sites is allowed and encouraged.
> Solutions are submitted in the inbox. Anon submittors can’t win a character.
> Results are posted in 24 hours.
This is the first game, so the difficulty is decetly low. Good luck!
RULES:
> You can solve all the riddles, but one person can get only one character (the one that was submitted first).
> If you play for fun, mention that when submitting answers.
> First come, first serve. If the fastest person isn’t interested in character, it gets passed down to the next person in the list, and so on.
> After winning a character you are placed on a cooldown to give others a chance to win. You won’t be able to get a character in the next batch, but are still welcome to play. After that, your cooldown is over.
Character belongs to you. You can change their name. You can decide their gender and eye color. You can redesign them, trade them, sell them (I would prefer you not doing it for real currency but I can't really stop you). It’s yours forever until you decide to let it go.
BIRDINS:
They have ceratopsian-like heads and bird bodies. Half of their diet consists of plants which effectively makes them omnivorous. Eat eggs of any type, insects, can eat meat, fish and/or carrion. Can be of various sizes, colors and body types.
They use their impressive horns and beaks as tools and weapons. Birdins are clever, and will bond with other creatures with similar levels of intelligence.
The events are co-authored with @thelamebat
This is a test run to see if people are interested in this type of interaction :D
If it succeeds we’ll work on making the puzzles harder
Vul said the first chunk for all of these are a caesar cipher, so the riddle's solution should be a number - the amount of spaces the letters should be shifted by.
Do I know what the number of last breath, fear, and death is? HA. No.
What, do you think I'm a genius? Of course not! Time to look at other clues.
The second chunk looks a lot like the format of the links from last week. All the links were in the format: brikes.tumblr.com/[insert word here] So all you had to do was see how many letters you have to shift one of the known letters to match the unknown. Let me attempt to illustrate this better below:
fvmoiw.xyqfpv.gsq/amrxiv
brikes.tumblr.com
See how the format matches, except for the end? All we have to do is figure out how many letters you need to shift the working link by to match the other link. The first letters in both are b and f. The letter b is 4 letters away from the letter f, so the whole thing needs to be shifted by 4 spaces. If we do that...
Bang - we have our first link. Looks like the final word in the link is "winter". That might be useful later.
Vul then hints that the next puzzle requires you to solve a vigenere cipher. A vigenere cipher requires a key word to solve it, and it can't be bruteforced easily. What's our hint?
born from the ashes, perished in flames, over and over, left no remains.
waht://ozfzlg.xhuyay.qsz/xedlbmk
The hint talks about a phoenix, a mythological immortal animal that supposedly dies in flames and is reborn from its own ashes.
If we use "phoenix" as our codeword...
We get another site with another clue:
hands on roots and logs, ears to wolves and dogs.
J piogei die ekne Uetk.
This one is probably another vigenere cipher, because it doesn't look like the answer to the riddle is a number
I figured the riddle was asking for something related to trees and dogs. What part of a tree could be related to a dog? Leaves, branches, trunk, bark....
Bark - its what roots and logs use to "feel", like hands, and what wolves and dogs hear. That's our key.
So Dusk is the first birdin's name!
I won't spoil all of the puzzles for anyone trying to get practice with them, but was my process for solving the riddles. Good luck to everyone trying for their own next time!
IMPORTANT: you can participate even if you are not interested in the adoptables/on cooldown! Treat yourself with a puzzle :]
DIFFICULTY: EASY ★★☆☆☆
First part of the puzzle is still based on ceasar cipher. Consult solutions from previous week for tips. Last step of the puzzle will contain a variation of "my name is __".
Hi! I think my initial ask didn't go through, but I was wondering a couple of things:
How big are birdins? Does it depend on the bird species? Was wondering because Flint (#3 from the first batch) looks to be part harpy eagle, which are huge, so I wanted to ask about scale for when i draw him.
Is it okay if we would like to rename our birdins after adoption? Or is it better/preferred if we just keep their names the same?
Hi! Tumblr did seem to eat the ask, sorry about that.
As have been said beforehand in info post, you have a full custody over your adopt and subsequently can do whatever you want with it, including changing the name.
More so, while I personally imagine them to be a same size (or a little bigger) version of their real life bird inspirations, it’s ultimately your call to decide how large you want them to be.
Rule of cool. It’s whatever suits your au and ideas better
RESULTS! Congratulations to @pommigranite, @meowuff and @crowl-cake! Take care of your birdins.
Round of applause to @mykurrentartblog and @arandomcluelessone for solving everything :]
Thank you to everyone for participating!

Since people seem interested, I made a separate blog for adopts and related to them events, to not crowd my main account: @birdin
SOLUTIONS TO PUZZLES:
You start with an encoded link.
Image of caesar salad hints at caesar code. It relies on having a numeric value (key) to be solved. (I am aware that this cipher can be bruteforced, but it's a first level puzzle and I decided to go with it anyway).
Both steps of the puzzle use caesar cipher.
Puzzle 1
The riddle talks about wolf teeth - there are 42 of them. The link gets decoded when it’s shifted by 42 spaces.
Second riddle talks about periodic table. Position corresponds with gold, which has an atomic number of 79.
Puzzle 2
Riddle talks about a rainbow and asks for a numeric value of colors that it has. Link gets decoded by shifting by 7 spaces.
Pencils have hexagonal shape, 6 sides.
Puzzle 3
Riddle asks for a full deck of cards plus two jokers - 54.
