the thing about the porch scene in relation to the rest of the episode, and spike's long pause before he answers is like..... he's thinking back to what william would've said. there is no way spike has ever said that phrase as a vampire. and i always read this particular smg facial journey as buffy hearing william and understanding for the first time that spike is capable of more, even as he studies her and tries to remember the feeling for her benefit. anyways. spike inquisitive buffy head tilt i love you.
