“bi” meaning two , means that bisexual means liking to genders , so i guess you can take on gender off and put another one up , but to be bisexual you would only have attraction towards two genders .

I don’t really like to get into discourse, but if I hear this “bi means two” thing one more time I’m going to scream. Yes, it does, you are correct. HOWEVER, bisexuality has always been classified as attraction to two or more genders. Pansexuality is real and valid, but people acting like it’s somehow a “better” or more inclusive bisexuality is…not cool. They’re both great!

I’d like to note that both the Google and Wikipedia definitions have changed more recently to be more accurate representations of bisexual history.

If you insist on telling bisexual people that “bi means two”, then don’t ever use the word “myriad” to refer to any amount other than 10,000.

So since some people insist that bisexual means the attraction to cis men and cis women, and some people think it’s the attraction to two or more genders, I thought maybe we should make a split in terminology.

Henceforth, those who refer to it as the attraction to two or more genders will be continued to be referred to as bisexuals.

Those who refer to it as the attraction to cis men and cis women will be referred to as transphobes.

I typically define my orientation as including transmen and transwomen (people who identify as the gender opposite of their birth gender). Pansexuality, I generally define as including agender, nonbinary, gender fluid, etc. Basically, bi = attraction to men and women, pan = attraction to ALL genders.

Polysexuality means falling in love with more than one person at the same time and wanting a relationship between more than two people. Bisexuality means feeling attracted to men, women and also everything in between. Just so u know

Could you clear something up for me? Bisexual is when you're attracted to the binary that is male-female right? And pansexual is where you're attracted to all 50 shades human beings come in right? Like trans, and people who don't feel they fall into the binary (I know there's probably a proper term but I'm kind of new to this). Anyways I'm just a person whose only ever known basics of sexuality and I'm looking for some guidance.

None of this is correct.

Bisexuality is the attraction to two or more genders, or the attraction to same and other genders. There is nothing about it that is absolutely “only male and female”, let alone only cis.

Pansexuality is the attraction to all genders.

Trans people are not a different gender by default. Trans women are women. Trans men are men. Even if bisexuality was always “only male and female”, it would include trans people.

People who don’t fall into man and woman are nonbinary. They are also trans.

Trans is a category of gender condition; being transgender means your gender is not the same you were assigned at birth. This does not mean women and men do not exist as trans people alongside cis people; men and women are trans too. Trans is not in itself a gender.

hey, I just came across your blog, and I was scrolling through (and loving all your answers to asks btw), but then I saw something you reblogged that said "pansexuality is not the same as bisexuality". my understanding (and my identification) as bi is "attracted to more than one gender", which is also my understanding of pan, I'm just curious what your definitions of those two are. Thanks!

Hi there! The definitions I generally apply are: 

Pansexuality: sexual attraction (or the potential to be sexually attracted) to people of all genders and those without genders

Bisexuality: sexual attraction (or the potential to be sexually attracted) to 2 or more genders of people (and/or genderless people )

I definitely think there’s a lot of overlap. There are plenty of bisexual folks who are attracted to people of all genders and those without genders, and also a lot of people who identify as both for a variety of reasons. I also think that it is important to note that in both pansexuality or bisexuality, people may or may not have gender preferences when it comes to dating, hanky panky, aesthetics, etc.
