knitting: it starts when magnus suggest he should find something to help him relax (cause taking it out on demons not gonna work in the long time alexander). as a result alec knits a lot. magnus, max and rafe all have scarf and sweaters from alec. onetime chairman meow accidentally tear one of max’s and they had a cold war for weeks before alec intervene

cooking: listen. maryse and robert was never around, hodge did not care, izzy burned the kitchen and jace thought the smoke gonna ruin his hair, alec was always the designated cook. it was passable at first, but alec improved through time. 15 years old alec beamed when his siblings seemed to like his cooking so much he thought finally he could be of use for something

baking: only family has the privileged to taste the magnificent brownie of one alec lightwood-bane (jace is still convinced alec put some kinds of pixie dust in there cause no brownie should taste like that) the first time he offered one to clary she did not dare to eat it until jace stole it from her

observing people: sometimes he just glamour himself and sit somewhere. a bench in the park, the rooftop, anywhere. it is nice to spend time just appreciating the small things in life

writing: alec’s journal is for daily reflection (young!alec starts doing this as a method of assessing himself and it just spiraled out from there). writing help put down the words that he’s too overwhelmed to spell out. alec also writes poetry (also a habit from young!alec). they are not good per se, but magnus adore them

reading: alec reads for both business and pleasure. he likes to be well-informed and understand all the information needed before a mission. despite his self-claimed dark and moody shadowhunter image he’s a sucker for romance book (his favorite author is jane austen, there’s just something about slowburn that get to him)

the fact that alec i-will-burn-myself-to-keep-my-loved-ones-warm lightwood and magnus ignore-the-trauma-what-do-you-need-me-for bane fells in love with each other is so fucking hilarious. they take one look at each other and like well oh shit he’s hot AND self-sacrifice uh huh uh huh sign me TF UP. then they later regret it cause all their self sacrificial tendency keep cancelling each other out. everytime one of them tryna do something stupid the other pulls out the uno reverse card. this is their life now.
