Man, I haven’t written in this in a while, and it’s been a bit since I’ve laid down observations, so let’s get to it.
Full disclaimer, I’m a fan of Johnny Depp, though I wouldn’t say more so a rabid one. It had been a bit since I had watched his movies leading up to the trial, but I do remember the accusations levied against him back in 2016. I stayed away from it, but waited to see what would come out (at this time, I hadn’t really heard of his wife, Amber Heard, but that’s irrelevant to how serious the accusations were.) Did I take them seriously? Of course, but I wanted all the information to come out.
Come 2020, after the UK trial, and the seeds of doubt started to form in if these accusations were actually *true*, with the amount of folks supporting him.
Flash forward to 2022: The trial. I tuned in to it through various streaming lawyers and the Law n’ Crime Network after hearing about how a lawyer objected to his own question. Even after a little giggle and figuring out it was one of Heard’s lawyers, I was like “How do you mess that up?” Then I saw the rest of the witnesses come forth, from both sides, then I heard Amber’s story and *cross*. And things got a lot *less* funny after that. Largely because, from there, that’s when the unravelling began.
It started with the whole pledge vs. donation thing. She could’ve easily...and I mean *easily* come up with a reason for not donating. But that’s 13 months of not donating money to Charity. Off a reason before she was sued by JD. Then her photographic evidence came in, and that didn’t add up to her testimony. There were no records of the more SERIOUS injuries to her. And the more we heard from AH, the harder it was to believe her, to the point in that it started to seem more like SHE was the abuser rather than the abused (She did, in fact, never saw herself as a victim.).
Her “Experts” didn’t do her any favors, either.
And when numerous witnesses came in defense of JD, she effectively called everyone else a liar, and believe her. However, unlike in her audio to JD, they both believed and sided with him, with her lies being exposed for all to see.
Now, because of the ripple effect of this case, several folks will feel said effects
ACLU: Not only have they lost out on charity money, they had a hand in helping her write the op-ed.
Her Experts: The shoddy work done by AH’s experts will most likely have a severe negative impact on their careers.
Her Lawyers: See above.
MSM: Mainstream media (and we can through TMZ in there) was behind AH for 6 years, there’s no denying that. Even with the small foothold gained by JD after 2020, it was minor compared to the support for her.
Her former friends: It’s not a surprise they aren’t her friends anymore, nor did they show up for her in court.
MeToo: She used it to her advantage prior to the trial (see the rally she was in.). The other telling thing is that, even when it was proven that SHE was the one abusing JD, they did not come out to support him, despite supposedly supporting DV victims.
And, most importantly, DV-Domestic Violence victims are going to be affected by this, and were by this case. Some may have seen their abuser in AH, some may have been retraumatized by what was said, or what was seen by her as she spoke. The hope, however, is that there can be shared talk between those that are DV victims about what has happened, regardless of gender, and that no one has to be silenced, also, regardless of gender.
TL;DR: A wrong has been set right. And an abuser was undone by her own lies.
