I love that the main critiques of iron lung are that it was "confusing and hard to follow" my brother in christ you are watching a story from the perspective of a man going slowly insane in a submarine

the REASON the bloodymary overlap works so well is because of the parallels but also because of the contrast. because on the one hand you have two movies about an involuntary martyr who is the last hope in an apocalyptic situation (patron saints of one way trips!!), but the way the two are set up makes the dynamic really interesting - simon and grace are foils for one another in a lot of ways. Early on, simon chooses violence where grace would choose patience in a lot of situations and tends to lash out at ava and everyone who has set him up for failure. Grace is too innately curious for that, and it doesn't hurt that he has no memory at first, but he doesn't necessarily harbor any resentment about the situation once he's on the hail mary, shown through Rocky being upset about it for him at one point. Point is they handle things in very different ways. but the same end comes around with both means, sacrificing themselves for the greater good, even to worlds that were never that grateful for them, but still needed them. Maybe it's something about death missions that make one realize there really is something greater beyond the self, but despite seeming like opposites the two share the arc of coming around to selflessness they never thought possible from themselves.

Leviticus still has me messed up. Oh my god

Like what do you mean the love two young people had for each other was weaponized and used to hurt them and make them afraid?? And that the trauma (literally the monsters that follow them) will never go away because the damage has been done?? And that despite it all they CHOOSE to love each other knowing they're endangering themselves in the process?? And that love is the thing that is keeping them safe even though it got them in trouble in the first place.

alright. fine. absolutely devastated over this movie it was so bittersweet and absolutely gorgeous.
